Thank you SO much for this educational video. Sometimes I make cards and I just can't figure out what's "off." I think many of us lack an educational background in design; however, we're drawn to cardmaking and stamping as a hobby. Many videos show people making gorgeous cards, but often times the 'how' and the 'why' of the design aren't explained. Videos like this help more than you know.

This is an excellent tutorial. I have heard about the rule of thirds but never really understood how to apply it. And the grid idea is very helpful. Thank you!

I was a graphic artist in my early career and while watching your video it occurred to me how many of these tips and techniques I use but wasn't even aware! Thanks for the refresher! Excited to intently use my graphic design senses in my card making. Love your videos, Julie! You're so informative and fun to watch and listen to! Keep 'em coming!

I am really liking all of these cards and the layouts. I really enjoy the simplicity of the focal point with the greeting because I have a tendency to really over-do it a bit. I agree with Stacie Borchert below... figuring out what's "off" is hard if you don't have this type of explanation that makes total sense. Thank you SO much for sharing.

  • @JenniferSKinney

This was super helpful. I totally understand how some layouts just feel “right” and some feel off balance. This gives me some things to think about on how to “fix” those unbalanced cards. Thank you!

Thanks for this! I've been looking for layout design videos that are actually about the design principles for card making and most just say how to do a certain layouts. This is so much better than watching the straight design/graphic design videos I have been watching; I like to see how it's actually applying to cards. I had to stop and take notes!!

excellent content, I wish there was more of this type of thing on TH-cam, as it is great to watch people make cards, but unless you copy the card its very hard to make a decent card when you are a beginner with no knowledge of design and art. This has really helped me as I have been doing backgrounds, die cutting and stamping sentiments for ages but struggle to put a card together. Hopefully this will help me to finally put a card together lol x
