for me, specifically...I'm a guy that loved going to the movie theaters morning, afternoon, evening night, doesn't matter lol I just love the experience! Me and my wife had our first child so that slowed down real quick so I took my background of being a AV Technician and built out a small DIY Home Theater room in our spare guest room, its nothing like my mans home theater over here but its definitely a sweet project I got done. Acoustic panels covering the whole ceiling and the upper wall/corners, puck color lights 7.1 audio receiver for my 7 speakers mounted on my wall my wife bought me led tv strips for the back of our 65 inch TCL TV, (it matches the colors being displayed on screen for movies, youtube, tv whatever) bought a 4k disc player for 4k UHD movies (yes ive slowly became a dvd guy and I haven't regretted it since lol) & a few movie posters spread out around the walls. so yeah lol I love Home theaters!
I'm building a modest theater in a decoupled wall shed. My biggest gripe is not being able to get a new good pj that does amazing blacks. I have a benq. I like it but I'm not sure I want to spend to on the new one and not get proper blacks. And I'll have to save for a JVC. Not a problem but at the rate tech seems to breakdown these days I'm not sure I want to put that much out on it. I've got a full set of m&k speakers so I'm not adverse to good quality stuff. But speakers tend to last a lifetime unlike projectors and TVs and such. I've had 3 power supplies in my lg TV inside 5 years. My microwave oven was expensive and broke within 2 years. What won't someone else do a good pj that can do 110 inches with good brightness and blacks that doesn't cost the earth. Maybe Sony's next laser at about 6k will be ok. Or I'll look for a second hand JVC nz8 or something
I have been using a SONY 5.1 system since 12 years, now in our new house (under construction) I have made a 25*20 Ft hall only for Theater purpose. However there are two drawbacks here in India - 1. Too compressed audio on streaming services. 2. Huge price difference in A/V Equipments compared to International market. Hope streaming services will enhance Audio quality and try to provide lossless audio going forward.
I’m based in the UK. Been into home cinema for well over 15 years now. My current ‘family room’ set up is a 7.2.4 M&K system (M&K150 on walls front, M4T’s for side and rears, and IW5’s ceiling, with 2x V12 subs up front, Epson Tw9300 projector, 94” electric screen (60” LED Tv behind for day to day viewing), Marantz SR7011 AVR, and Panasonic UB820 Blu Ray. Have had this set up for near 10 years now. My house has a garage connected to the house which I’ve been converting it to a full on cinema room- going full M&K speakers again, but all in-wall, and to be hidden behind acoustic fabric. Amplification to be by Anthem MRX1140, PJ likely another Epson. Walls and ceiling all double boarded with 12.5mm acoustic plasterboard, with 200mm acoustic rock wool in ceiling. Walls are double thick - outer brick, with 15mm gap, then 100mm timber frame acoustic insulated, another gap, followed by 100mm timber frame acoustic rock wool, then double boarded with green glue between. Been a long slow project as I’m doing it all myself. Getting close now to second fix electrics, then a wait to build funds to get all the nice toy! Room is 5.7m long by 3.2m wide. Plan is for a 117” 2.35:1 acoustic transparent screen. So, 2 effective cinema rooms, albeit family room is just that but with great sound, screen and PJ. The garage converted to cinema room will be next level!
I totally agree im trying to do that with my basement i found a towond 180 inch sccreen but mot sure if it would lookn awkward in basement with rhe stand and finiding affordable surround sound is hard but i found a jvc projector on ebay for cheap 😊
i want a home theater but i only have 2.5 meters distance from the wall. If i do it from the long side of the room i am limited to a smaller screen because of a slanted ceiling. What would you do?
Very cool! I am in the middle of upgrading my HT and working my way through. Sticking with the mighty Denon 8500h as it continues to offer all the AVR I need. Just got in a Rel HT 1510 Sub and running it in. Recently switched streaming to Apple TV 4K and disappointed with the sound quality. The dynamic range, volume and the overall impact is just not there. Funnily the Apple TV App on the PS5 sounds really nice and both Apple Music and Apple TV+ comes to life with better sound quality, tactile bass and rich! Wondering if any of you are experiencing this and if I need to be looking at any change of settings on the Apple TV 4K ?
Not sure why, but I know if you want the best "music" it's better to go with a dedicated DAC, and something like the Zidoo or Eversolo range of players which can do Apple Music and other lossless audio. Here's a link: bza6.short.gy/21qRU1
Hey mate, i would much appreciate it if you could please recommend picture calibration tools? For some context i am using the Samsung lsp7t (single laser) projector with HD Fury for LLDV. Cheers.
Personally, I would aim for 7.2.4, however pre-wire for 9.4.6. You can check out this video which can help you get started without spending any money ::) th-cam.com/video/hAfuRnHuBmc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Tony. I’ve always manually set my TV’s brightness, Contrast, Colour sharpness etc. I always calibrated the picture settings in the dark. I bought the blue glasses from THX which is the only way to see, I think it’s the Hue, when looking through them you will see blue and pink lines running vertically on the screen, the idea is to get the pink lines and blue lines looking the same colour blue. You need a disc with the THX Optimiser setting, which usually comes on a THX movie disc, but now days, you need the one with a 4K setup; to be able to buy the optimiser disc, you have to do their optimiser calibration course; but there’s other optimisation methods, like a test pattern which will get close to a good picture. Take care and stay safe. Gary 😊
Great video Tony looking forward to mine coming online soon …. You’ve spoken many times about calibration could you please do a video on how you do this? Cheers Adam
Hi Tony My name is Keith and I live in the U.K. I watch your channel all the time and love it I bought the Zidoo 20 pro around December last year and absolutely love it But early this week there was a update for it so I downloaded it but now it does not play any trailers on the poster wall etc I’ve contacted Zidoo but they say it’s nothing to do with them and the poster wall automatically search for each trailer it worked fine until this update could you give me any advice on resolving this issue Keith
I would recommend downloading the firmware from mcbluna.net - check it out via Google search - find your model and follow the steps. His firmware update fixed it for me :)
I’ll grab that and reply as soon as I fire up the room. I am actually making a new video on demo worthy movies. I did one already for Netflix if u look on my channel page but going to do one for discs as well
Honestly it's not that expensive to build your own home theater nowadays. Sure seeing many TH-camrs' theater rooms can be intimidating but all you need is some decent speakers and AVRs are quite cheap. As for seating - You don't need theater recliners. You can use a couch or 2 and as for the projector - Hisense L9 UST projector w/120" screen was recently on sale at Visions Electronics in Canada for $2800CAD and can only imagine how cheap it goes on sale in the U.S.A.
@@newassistance238 You think 12 grand is expensive? My sister in-law just spent 30 grand on a 1 week vacation for a family of 4. Anyways my home theater didn't cost anywhere close to 12 grand. Like I stated before if you're not going for the theate3rs that TH-camrs have. I spent $100CAD for my 4 Infinity Primus 360 towers for my surround sound sides plus surround backs, Technic SB-A54 towers as my fronts, 15" Cerwin Vega 1000" rms subwoofer and Infinity Primus PC351 Center speaker. As for my height channels I paid $150CAD my fronts are Paradigm 330 v.3 and my mid heights are Fluance Signature bipole speakers. My Denon 8K X4700H AVR cost $2000CAD and even though I do not have a projector I have an 65" LG C9 that I paid $3000CAD for but if I don't use the warranty by the end of this August I will be getting back $1113CAD. I bought a 10'x8 shag carpet and a power recliner for $175CAD from a Costco return store. The power recliner I thought was mint but when I got it home realized why it was returned because one of the footing was broken off. Cost me nothing other than time to make a new one. I have a Marantz 4K 7.1 AVR as an amp to power my height channels that I received when I bought my height speakers.
This is such a great video… a theatre is what you make it… soundbar an sub help some people get the bug, but all in all spending time with family and friends is the best part for sure.
My home cinema ruined the 'going to the cinema experience' for me and my family as well, but I don't mind it, because my daughter brings her friends home now and I love seeing my daughter and her friends enjoying themselves 😁
Awesome video! I agree that building a home theater is still awesome in 2024. There are many options now to do it that are budget-friendly. I feel that most of us in the hobby start of smaller and do upgrades as budget allows
I enjoy watching your video clip. I have cinema sound in the lounge for about 15 years with couple up grades in 15 years and it is same brand speakers what you have. To me it is worth the money what i spent to have it . 5.1 set-up
I just redid my 5.1 setup i bought subwoofer cable and other new parts what needed and now my surrounds sound lot better and bi-amp my left and right speaker has improve the sound . It needed maintenance after 15 years .

That really depends on the movie theater. In most cases I think so wholeheartedly, but of course a high end IMAX is going to be hard to beat! But I also feel that's a different topic than what I'm trying to cover.. could be a great idea for a video!
Most commercial cinema's are easily out performed by a high end home cinema. For the most part, the audio in commercial cinema's isn't that great. The low end usually cuts off around 25 Hz and tends to be muddy compared to a good home cinema. Commercial cinema sound quality is getting better but still cannot compete with what can be achieved by high end custom home cinemas.

How come I can’t have height 3 enabled on Arc Genesis unless I enable surround backs that I don’t have 👀
Which Anthem receiver do you have?

100% mate... case in point we were at Ben's place till 1am this morning sitting on the floor ranking all of the Star Wars movies...
