  • Short-toothed Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) is a wonderful plant native to the Eastern United States. It is one of the best pollinator plants to have in the garden. It is relatively easy to maintain, keeps and upright posture, and can even be left standing through the winter to provide cover for small animals like rabbits. It is very aromatic, smelling more like spearmint than traditional mints. It is easily grown in a variety of soils, however, it thrives best in sunny areas.

I love this plant - I can stand and watch the pollinators ofr a long time just simply crawling all over it - great entertainment in the fall when other pollen sources are gone.

Thank you. I'm grateful you enjoyed it. I also co-host a great podcast called Nature Guys, here is an episode on mistletoe you may enjoy- natureguys.org/mistletoe/

I didn't know you could grow these from cuttings. I will try that this year.

Disclaimer: Eat things at your own risk. I have dried it and used it as a strong minty herb, or in tea.

    What does it taste like?

It tastes like a strong mint flavor. Stronger than the herbal mint. I make tea with it mixed with lemon juice and honey.
