Street Takeovers completely killed my hometowns street racing scene believe it or not. From 2010-2016 before I moved, There were street races every friday and saturday night unless it rained. Even during the dead of winter they still would race so long as there wasnt ice or snowfall.
But when I revisited in 2018, They couldnt be found anywhere and I eventually found one of the guys who would regularly race. He said that they dont have races anymore because those street takeover guys came and bascally caused so much chaos that police would take anyone in that they thought had been part of the street races. That and there was suddenly a lot of fights, gang members showing up causing issues, dudes cars being fucked with, they even had a few people get guns drawn on them because these street takeover dudes kept provoking shit and then retaliating when people had enough of their shit. Funny enough, this was when Dodge Chargers and Challengers began to tale off with being stolen and used for street takeovers/public endangerment. So my cities street racing club called it quits and they havent gone back to it since.
Also doesnt help that most of our racing spots are now built up and are fully built communities. But that 2010-2016 period was a great run and I had lots of fun memories from it.

True story; about 3 weeks ago I finally decided to head to a local meet. Given the state of the community I was expecting childish behavior, but I've honestly never been more embarrassed to be a car enthusiast.
Burnouts, revving, actually arguing with other people about their cars. One guy was getting shit on because he has an automatic. Another one was torn apart so bad for having rep wheels he just left. Somebody tried to rip on me because my car is on OEM wheels with stock suspension. Not jokingly, mind you. Straight up "You're not modified, you don't deserve to be here."
There was a collision when two idiots tried to out-do one another, which resulted in a fight. After the fight the guy took off in his (almost written-off) car, hitting a random woman who was just trying to improve her photography skills.
The car scene is a disgrace. I've had people get mad at me in traffic because I wouldn't race them. All I have is a 4th gen mazda with an intake, and a cat-back, but 700hp Hellcats will cut me off if I don't want to race them.
There's far too many people in the car scene with way too fragile egos.

Yes, you should definitely do a video on takeovers. Us car enthusiasts already have enough "guns pointed at us" for lack of better words, from local politicians, police officers, the general public and the EPA. We don't need just one more thing to make us look bad like take overs. People get seriously injured and killed at these things, and it just makes the local community hate car enthusiasts and gives them motivation to discourage legal permitted meets, etc. For fear of them turning into a "take over" type event.

I'll copy and paste what I said in my own post but it's not even about cars anymore. "Here in the DMV car culture has been stupid well the car scene in general but especially here in the DMV. It's not about cars anymore it's about a person's race, sex, sexual orientation, or a language (Hispanics) they do or don't speak. Or if it is about cars and you OVERLY like cars you are hated for it. Or it's all about likes, followers, and clout chasing. Males in the scene act more like females AKA Regina Georges now. The girls now in the scene are the ones who are cool I have had no issues with females. It's the males now who are drama queens. Talking about people hating someone. When I tell my truth I'm crazy or playing victim I have a whole video on my experience in the car scene from the day I went to my first car meet. Yet to edit it but it talks about everything."

In my city, The Takeover crowd alone was what eliminated my city's street race scene. Our racing scene was very civil and inclusive. They welcomed anyone in who was willing to behave and just enjoy the meets/races like everyone else. But after I left for Denver, the takeover scene just kind of took over and became a serious threat to the group. All the takeover guys in my hometown were from the hood and they just began to cause absolute chaos every meet and eventually got it disbanded due to threats with guns and them fucking with other racers cars while they werent close to their cars. Along with other stuff that just elevated the over all liability with them around.

Takeovers are just for boy racers.. thinking theyre living in a fast and furious life without recignizing the dangers of takeovers. Even the street racing and car meets in that movie seemed to have more class than these takeovers nowadays. Cars and coffee, strongly built meets with people who enforce no burnout rules etc, organizing cruises and photoshoots, thats class on public road when youre involved in a mass group. David said it perfectly. The cop will bunch a takeover together on how one person is acting it reflects the group and could get everyone in trouble because of a couple people. . Its different when a police officer encounters a person in total isolation from other drivers, practicing spririted driving. The police officer will have a different reaction to a single party.

This is spot on. I love to slide my s14 around but I always do it in deserted areas or when there’s nobody around. We have a massive issue with takeovers in my city and one day I found a deserted Kohl’s with two buddies who had never been in my s14 before to do some donuts. The only car around happened to be an undercover cop but he let me loose fairly quickly after looking at my license. Never checked my insurance which was technically storage insurance at the time, asked my driving record and verified I was telling the truth about my one ticket and told me to go “do this sh*t in your own city” to which I replied yes sir and promptly left. I had a 550hp RB popping at redline and shooting flames but nobody was around so I wasn’t putting anyone else at risk. I think the cop recognized how much work I had put into the car and that I just wanted to show some buddies a without driving three hours to a track and sent me on my way

      Reasons why people do takeovers
      *Drivers*
They live in the city where there’s no real drift spots so intersections are the biggest area for them. All the other spots around the city are burnt so all the different groups need to come together at intersections so there’s enough people to block off the cops.(unless the cops come from 4 sides and trap you in the blockers will buy you time to make it out the other side). Or it’s the slammed trucks and Infiniti’s and dodges doing one wheel peels and thinking it’s the hardest shit ever.
      *spectators*
Their car is impounded or broken. They like to get videos of (good drivers / people getting smacked / cars crashing into each other / cool cars / bad drivers / fights).

I recently picked up a mk7.5 golf r and I get asked a lot "when are you gonna get new wheels?" "Why haven't you gotten new wheels?" And it's baffling to some of these people that I want to wait until my relatively new Michelin pilot sport 4s tires wear down some more. They just think it needs to be modded to hell right away for it to be cool, or to solidify myself as a "true" car guy. It makes me think these people have never had other responsibilities, or they just think life is like Forza and you can just instantly change your entire car in a flash.

Takeover type of stuff got me out of the racing scene. We had our racing spots that were normally pretty tame and cops would leave us alone, then the Charger groups and Lifted Truck groups kept coming out more and more and basically making it a party zone. We knew that once those groups started pulling in, it's time to leave because within the hour if the cops didn't run everyone off, there would be gunshots. It makes me sad because I loved it, and the closest track is about 3 hours away, I'm not making that drive every weekend. The culture on the street was better and so was the racing. I agree with everything except your views on "no replacement for displacement" because I think it is true. Yes, technologies such as turbocharging and others allow small displacement, lower cylinder engines to match more powerful, large displacement, 8 cylinder or more engine, but if you take those large displacement engines and apply the same technology, the small displacement stuff can't compete. Take Greg Peter's Miata build; he has a 1.9L turbo 4 cyl in his car with lots of boost, and it just made about 500 wheel. That's amazing! Or something bigger, like boosting an M50/52/54 BMW engine, you can easily make 600hp. This matches engines such as the LT4 from the C7 Z06, or the Viper V10. But we all know what happens when you twin turbo a 8.4L Viper... 1500hp without even trying. Hell, Calvo makes Vipers with over 3000 wheel HP. And twin turbo lambos, etc.
I'm not discrediting building lower displacement engines, not at all. Greg Peters' turbo Miata build is one of my favorites in the car community, and I know people in real life who have turboed E36 325is that make 600 wheel. Those cars are amazing, truly spectacular. But high displacement will always win. Imagine two engines, one is a 2.5L cylinder and the other is a 5.0L V8. Give them both 10lbs of boost (CFM is more important here though). People do tend to polarize about them to the point of believing very wrong facts. I think they're very good for some things but in my case, I don't actually do enough miles to justify one. If I had the budget, though, I think it'd be fun to convert something I otherwise like but never liked the engines for anyway. (I noticed the other night that even some anti-EV hot rod kids thought it would be really cool if I made like an electric Pacer or Pinto wagon, for instance. We happen to have solar here, so it wouldn't be *entirely* pointless even if the math wouldn't exactly compel it. :)

One of the worse car arguments is that the modern V6 cars( mustang, Camaro, charger and Challengers, etc) are not viable performance cars in the V8 car culture.

    • @SomeOne_86
      @SomeOne_86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

They are decent cars, but the thing is that those engines are really not designed to be in those cars. A mustang, camaro, ESPECIALLY challengers and chargers are simply supposed to have V8 engines with lots of torque, since they are big heavy cars. A V6 engine like the chrysler pentastar would be so much better in a smaller, lighter chassis with better suspension than in a challenger. Again, those cars are not bad, but they're simply better with a v8 engine, a v6 just doesn't fit their character. I wish more manufacturers would make smaller sporty cars with RWD, but it's not financially viable because everyone wants a fucking suv or a truck nowadays.
