    Wow. You make all this seem so easy to do. But, after putting together two TaoTao's already (this model, and a CY50-B) let me just tell everyone, this man is a pro.. Tight spaces, small screws, the right tools... Sometimes as you go along you'll find it a little more difficult, but these videos are a Godsend! Thank you for posting. Doing a proper PDI is all worth the blood, sweat and tears, trust me ;) Plus, don't forget to contact your dealer (these have a warranty usually when you first purchase them) to order any parts which may be missing, broken, etc.

    It comes with enough tools that you can probably get by on most of the PDI stuff, but better tools are a great investment if you plan to continue maintaining and servicing your scooter. I used medium strength blue on most jobs, but high strength red would be good on some things that shouldn't be removed any time soon. The centerstand bolts for example were getting loose within under 500 miles and there's no real need to remove those unless you shipped the scoot again.

    Best to pay attention to 90GTVert. I owned a scooter shop and have always appreciated his hard work to help others who own scooters. I have worked on a lot of scooters, and I learned a lot from 90GTVert. Thank you.
    BTW, we did real PDI's vs assembling scooters. Our goal was to find any problems so that the customer, and us, did not have to deal with a problem after the sale. We were almost 100% successful, but we had a couple real dogs. The owners of these two scooters became our friends and great advertisement for our business, because we made things right. I miss being in the business. It was fun, and a lot of work!

      Jimmy Morris Thanks for the kind words. I'm not saying they're great, but if more dealers or owners did PDIs I do think Chinese scooters may have a slightly better reputation. Especially if a dealer will actually stand behind them. Too many scoots have been sold at some store that has no interest in anything but the initial sale and with no one that really knows about scoots specifically or cares about them.

    Thanks for this series of videos; really helped me understand what to look for and inspect before taking my scooter out on the town. Request: If possible, can you make a how to video showing the best way to remove the standard handle grips that come with this scooter as well as installing aftermarket grips. Also, I'm looking at gel grips; if you could recommend some grips that would work on this scooter that would be awesome. Thanks again.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've already replaced the grips, but what I did was get a grip warm. I was doing it in the winter so I used a heat gun, but if it's warm outside you could probably just park in the sun. Don't burn the grips, but warming them makes them more pliable. I worked a small flat screwdriver under the grip and pried it up a little, then squirted a small amount of WD40 in there. After doing that a couple of times, the grip would move a bit so I twisted back and forth and removed it. Make sure the WD40 is cleaned off before installing new grips so they don't slip.
      If you aren't reusing grips, the easiest way to take them off is to slice them parallel with the bars and then you should be able to peel the grip off easily. You do need to be careful cutting on the throttle side though, because the throttle is plastic so too much pressure and you could cut into it.
      To install the grips I apply some kind of lube that won't stick around... soapy water for me. I see some use rubbing alcohol. Then push/twist the grip on.
      I usually buy grips for bicycles. Most scooters should have 7/8" bars, the same as most bicycles. The throttle side is larger, and it will be a little tougher to install though. You can find scooter specific grips, but I tend to search eBay and I can find about any style I'd want. I've also bought them from WalMart or bike shops locally.

    I was wondering if all of these tools come with the scooter or if i need to buy them and also, what brand is the threadlocking glue you are using, i know its permatex, but what one, there are many different types(med strenth, low, high)

    This video and series has been immensely helpful, as I am really not mechanical, so thank you. However, my front wheel does contact the brake pads when it spins. What should I do?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Light grazing contact may be OK. You can try checking that there's no way to change spacers to alter how the disc and caliper are positioned relative to each other.

      @MichaelCataro 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, am in process of assembling mine, and had this question. doesn't seem anything I can do to tweak the positioning. May try to find a shop to take it to and get that checked professionally.

    P.S. I'm afraid you've put on the kickstand backwards.. In the dvd that came with my atm50-a1, and in two other videos here on TH-cam for PDI's for this scoot, the kickstand goes on the other way round. So I highly encourage anyone using these PDI's to check out some of the other ones, too, just to make sure everyone is on the same page.

      You're right. To be honest I can't recall if it was just a nervous mistake on my part or on purpose. I know the leg on mine is shaped to match the stand better the way I installed it, but definitely the pad at the end should face up. Mines been this way for over a year now working fine though. lol

  • @Jie1478
    @Jie1478 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    HI! Just got a Taotao Thunder. After putting on the front wheel, the front wheel is scraping the brake pad. Anyway to loosen the pad a bit or do i just let it scrape until wheel spin freely? Thanks, the whole PDI series really helped.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can make sure the pads are seated against the caliper. I had a member of the forum recently say this happened and the speedometer puck on the wheel was packed tight with grease and removing just a little made it stop. Sometimes the spacing is a little off and a washer can be added here or there to fix it. If it's minor maybe just ride it and see if it's there after the first ride. Mine did it and I ended up having to replace the caliper to stop it. If it's not steady, but rather seems to make contact in a spot or spots, it could be a warped rotor.

    Great content, I have a 150cc that wont start, I know it has spark but there is something going on with it, I have a chrome pro battery that works just fine and I took it off the charger today at 13v I put it in that scooter and tried cranking it a few times and before long it was reading 12.22v and blinking, I put it back on the charger and the charger now shows green but battery still at 12.2v, could that scooter have some electical issue that shorted out and drained that battery? causing it not to charge, or damaged it? Any ideas? TY

    Hey i just got my scooter in the mail. I am about to try the acid fluid into the battery, but i had a question. You mentioned a charger to charge the the battery once the acid is ready to be charged, where can i buy one of those? My scooter didn't come with one, im not sure if any do but that would be a great help. I thought i would be able to drive it right out of the box... Guess not. Thanks for video

    • @49ccscoot

      You can get them online (Battery Tender Jr is nice). You should be able to find them locally at auto parts stores, motorcycle shops, and Harbor Freight sells a cheap trickle charger. I think WalMart even carries them now. Good luck with your new scoot.

    Question. I just bought a taotao 50 a1 about two weeks ago & already the blinkers don't work. Theres one screw under the headlight that I can't reach with a regular screwdriver. What type of screwdriver tool do I need & where do I find the relay switch? I don't want to take anything off that I don't need too

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch just after 6min of this vid and it shows removal : th-cam.com/video/-FVDfP4o9m8/w-d-xo.html You can get flashers at PartsForScooters, eBay, amazon... and it is prob under the handlebar cover. If not it's under the front panel.

    • @markn2393
      @markn2393 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should be like 4 screws starting with one above rear reflector. If it shorted out the bulb socket you'll need to replace your turn signal relay which is under the headlight area. Usually the turn signal sockets crumble when u hit abig bump sometimes..

    Hey, I am on the part where I am trying to pull the plastic out holding open the break pads. Either I don't have the same plastic as you do, or I simply can't get it out. I ordered mine a week ago. Do you think it is simply made differently now? Or am I missing something?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure the brake lever isn't being depressed and putting pressure on it, like maybe it's lying against something. Could just take a little more effort. Just don't damage the pads trying to get it out.

    • @zivwtv
      @zivwtv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      90GTVert I saw online someone prying the caliper piston (I believe that's what it's called?) and I tried to do the same. I still can't get the pistons wide enough to slide the wheel through properly. Also my moped had a little slit in the piston, I assume for decompression. When I pried it open it chipped in the middle but the rest is fine. Do you think I need to replace the part?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zivwtv You prob mean the brake pad has a slit? That's normal. A small chip won't do anything awful. You can try taking the cap off of the master cylinder and then pushing it open. Be careful not to lose brake fluid.

    • @zivwtv
      @zivwtv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@49ccscoot I got the wheel on but when I spin it, the wheel is definitely stopping too fast and I believe I hear the brake pads making contact with the rotor. However, I am still unable to create any more space between the pads and the pistons. I tried looking up how to decompress a caliper and tried to do it with a flathead multiple times. I just can't create any more space.

    what do you think about the shorai lithium-ion battery?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No experience with them. Just looking at their site the prices are a little on the high side. They say they include foam with the batts, which is a good thing that I've never seen with other scooter batts I've used. I would look up specs for those and other li batts in the same sizes and compare .

      Local motorcycle and auto shops prob carry them as well as even Wal-Mart may have them. www.partsforscooters.com/?partner=49CCSCOOT and others are carrying lithium ion batts now that are lightweight and usually have very high cranking amps compared to standard batteries.

    • @49ccscoot

      Perhaps you blew a fuse. Usually the fuse is in the battery compartment, so have a look there.

    Found that my flasher relay is broken but I cannot find the wires or any brackets or anything. Have the relay itself but not sure where to connect the new one. Help?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be at the front of the scooter. Usually either in the handlebar covered area or under a front panel/fairing. There are a couple of styles of connecters. One style has 2 terminals in an L shape. That should be easy to find the plug for because nothing else on the scooter will use that style of connection. The other uses a 3 terminal connector that looks like a lot of others on the scoot. In this case you'll need to try to match wire colors or see if the wires in the connector have continuity with the turn signals or turn signal switch using a multimeter. The plug should be there somewhere. If not you'd likely find 3 wires with no connection somewhere.

    hey was wondering had remote start hooked up and took it off and had a racing cdi box installed then took it out and for some reason something keeps blowing my fuse and making my scooter not start ... we put aluminum foil on it for now and it powers right up but when i connect it without it it doesnt start all just only kick start any suggestions thanks

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be something with the remote start uninstall. Perhaps a wire/connector left over is touching a ground. Check that over first. Could be lots of things and finding a short can be a real pain so go over any wires you've messed with recently to start. You can check power wires for continuity with ground using a multimeter. Unhook the battery and put one probe on a frame or engine ground. Then use the other to see if the batt + wire or the ignition switched power wire (ofter red/white) has any continuity to the frame/engine ground. If it does you can look for any obvious chaffing or stripped wires or connectors touching. You can also start unhooking 12V accessories one at a time and see if the continuity goes away with one of them being removed. I don't suggest bypassing the fuse, it's a fire hazzard.

      Light grazing contact may be OK. You can try checking that there's no way to change spacers to alter how the disc and caliper are positioned relative to each other. The loctite shouldn't be a big deal. You can still remove bolts easily enough if you're not using some super-strong permanent stuff.
