Love you jack, but you don’t play the game😂
You don’t have to cheese your way onto the volcanic island, there is more than 1 path to reach it. After hearing that I’ve gotta go
@@yipperdeyip yeah they disrespected me for a whole 200 hours
Will you PLEASE review Rise of the Ronin next??
No stop shilling, also giant weapons are great. Guts from Berserk would cave your skull in for that.
A couple of things to mention.
1. Dragon's Dogma 1 had all of the vocations unlocked the moment you visit the capital city for the very first time.
2. I can assure you, that nobody will defend the DD2 soundtrack, because the DD1 soundtrack exists. Into Free, and Coils of Light are certified bangers, there is a reason why OST from DD1 is as DLC for DD2.
3. Yes, I was disappointed with lack of variety, considering that for some reason they removed bosses from DD1 like Hydra, Cockatrice, or Beholder(giant evil eye mob)
4. Once again, in Dragon's Dogma 1 you could switch between gear from storage anywhere you wanted, not sure why it is not here in DD2.
5. Story is an absolute downgrade, the personal main issue is that story related, there's almost zero Dragon in Dragon's Dogma 2, it is a far cry from DD1 Dragon which was an amazing character(also they get ride of iconic VA of this Dragon)
6. Ultimately the game suffers almost the very same issues everyone had with DD1, but DD1 had DLC that fixed quite a lot of issues, which they did not too takes note from and seemingly decided to take a step backward.
7. The end-game of DD1 is vastly superior to DD2, DD1 has two different end-games, a Base game, and DLC, and both of them alone dwarf the DD2 one.
8. Also, DD1 had a much cooler final fight, where after the Dragon, if you had online mode on, you eventually fought another player's main character who manage beat the game before you.
Not-so-fun-fact: Capcom did not have faith in this game in the first place, if you look up credits, you can see that on DD2, it worked around 300 people, vs other Capcom tiles like RE4, or Street Fighter 6 which had around 1000 people.
Not-so-fun fact 2: Director of Base Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 was Hideaki Itsuno, however, the person responsible for DLC and the Online version of the game was one of the Designers, Kento Kinoshita. This may give us some clue, as to why all the changes and improvements that DLC did to DD1 were not in DD2.
I played and loved DD1, the story was weird but still felt coherent and cool. Grigori was a total chad - David Lodge's voice uplifted the cool dialogue to the next level too - and fighting him felt epic. The endgame was unique and felt like another challenge, which made sense considering the very last fight.
I don't have time to rant about all the things this game does outright worse. This is a flat out downgrade in all but graphics. I'm glad I waited to buy it because I won't until they fix all this.
No offense to this Hideaki Atsuno guy, but why the fuck isn't Kento Kinoshuta the game director instead then? Atsuno can be chief gameplay designer or whatever the fuck, and they should hire actual fucking writers lmao.
@game_boyd1644 because Kento Kinoshuta isnt the person with the vision behind dragons dogma, thats like asking why Kojima should be replaced.
Disagree on the end-game.
Everfall was bland IMO, and even though I got frustrated at DD2's end-game that I won't openly type due to spoilers, I found it more engaging than just grinding RC. Story-wise I felt it also transitioned into endgame less awkwardly than the first game.
The Dragon is absolutely a worse fight in DD2 though... I guess. I honestly can't remember it too well, whish is why I assume it is lol
No the dragon is definitely a better last fight then the first, both are easily forgetable, tho dd1 has. Much better trye ending that actually made sense and align with the ever ending loop, dd2 true end is an actual end and the ng+ doesn't make sense like the first@@Astaticembrace
The story was clearly an afterthought but I think what the developers underestimated here is that the story and characters are a hook for you to motivate you to get invested in the world and go exploring. Mindless walking around and killing monsters is fun but when you have a well made setup and lore for the worlds you’re in makes you wanna do all the side stuff even more. It’s the reason that I do absolutely every side quest in the witcher 3 every time i do another playthrough and the reason why I’m enthralled with baldurs gate 3 and try to explore the entire map before doing any main quests cause I wanna get the most out of its world and not miss out or get locked out of a quest in that game. Of course those two games are the best the genre has to offer, but in this game I don’t care at all about who’s who and why I’m doing what i’m doing. It’s just where can I get the best loot and where’s the next enemy to kill. Nothing about its storytelling incentivizes me to explore anything or get invested in the world.
If you look into the original dev diaries, the lore was the forefront, but unfortunately tons just got cut, additional races and their backstories, and entire extra half of the map, on top of additional land mass, and a multiverse theory involving worlds stacked upon worlds and an endless tower (the everfall) which connects them, it woulda been way cooler than what we got, unfortunately it looks like BOTH games now cut more than half of what the creator originally intended
@@CaeridLock. In this instance it matters less what the "creator" "originally" "intended" because if they were competent they would have started with things that impact the player feel and story and worked from there. Instead we have end-result people hyping up a result that never comes and/or is unimpressive for what they expected. They're just doing it all wrong, the whole way up.
This is very true, I got bored so fast
@@Szanth the thing is also that the first game had a lot of cut content and this sequel was billed as the creators true vision only for this game to be half baked once again. Sure the combat is great, but as for actual improvements over the original other than graphics there aren’t that many. Hell I think the variety of vocations was actually better in DD1.
@@luisz222
Fool me once…
the part where you have to unequip>deposit>withdraw>equip was such a step back from DD1. You can literally equip/unequip anything when managing storage in DD1, i dont even know why they didnt do that this time.
Facts, and also being able to give items to your pawn from your inventory when using that same menu
So many weird choices like that...
Yeah I didn't remember how it worked in DD1 but this is the worst part with vocation switching. I did just find you can deposit or withdraw multiple though the other day so that was cool.
Oh also how vocation buildings are separate from taverns now except for like the beginning towns. Why, just why.
@@alemswazzu another thing that pissed me off the most is the equipment slot. In DD1 we have individual clothing slot like head/arm/underarmor/armor/boot/cape, the diversity is INSANE! Why did they cut that away? merging arm/armor/underarmor into 1 is such a big L.
Its such a shame because no words can describe how i absolutely love the combat, i have never play anything like that before especially the way you fight big enemies ( i was already blown away by DD1 combat ). And the graphics and level design, man, this game is beautiful its almost remind me of Red Dead 2 enviroments.
But like you said, so many weird fucking choices like that, i will never understand.
The game is full of baffling design choices, at some point one must ask themselves what the hell the studio director was thinking.
It's a shame because the game really is good beneath these obtuse systems.
Just a few corrections I feel I should mention at 20:40.
Buying a round of beer supposedly makes npcs forgive you. If you accidentally angered, npcs in that city may attack you on sight and buying a round supposedly stops that. It also raises affection with everyone in that town if you wanted to romance someone (despite how lacklustre the romance system is)
Going to the spa gives a buff and removes scars that build-up on your pawn from deaths. It also raises pawn affection (which impacts the ending)
There isn’t any dialogue I know of that even vaguely hints at these being perks of those activities. I figured buying rounds builds affinity possibly.
I had actually hoped using the spa would’ve been a way to heal the healthbar loss back without having to sleep, in case you were working on a time-sensitive quest, but got your shit rocked that day.
Like, thank goodness for allheal elixirs.
Honestly this guy got a lot wrong already and I'm only 3 mins in 😭. It is not the same story, I think he only killed the dragons in each game and then believed he finished the game.
I still agree w this guy's opinions tho for the most part, at least when he says true things
The only point that really annoys me is the missing layered armour system. Who came up with the idea that I needed less armour options in the sequel? Dragons Dripma was an important part of the first game!
This 🙌
My guess: an engine restriction or time crunch.
so you played DD:DA and the ONLY thing that bothers you is the dumbed down armor system? I wish I felt the same man.
@@ideal9544 I played an unreasonable amount of DD:DA (around 2400 hours to this day). There are obviously different topics that could be brought up. The first game with DA installed did a few things better for sure, the end game loop for example, but this one doesn't annoy me too much yet, since I'm almost certain that DD2 will receive a dlc which should achieve the same. The quests seem to be a bit better than in the first game, so no complaints here. The story is just as incompetent, so that's not a let down, for I expected it to be bad from the very start. I could go on, but I think you catch my drift by now. I would've mentioned the performance issues as a big minus point, if I would've experienced any, which I didn't oddly enough.
I'll have a lot more to complain about if the DLC doesn't do much in regards of end game content. I wouldn't mind a few more vocations and armour sets either. Getting my Dragons Dripma back is the top priority for me.
As it stands now, I put 280 hours into DD2, that's a bit more time than I spent in DD1 before DA came out. I'm certain that the armour system isn't getting fixed tho, that's why it's the only thing that really annoys me.
I know 😭😭😭😭😭 One of the biggest disappointments in my life. I literaly told my wife a few days before launch: "I am SOOOO excited to combine the new armor pieces together and look awesome!" And then I was really, REALLY disappointed. Why are they always doing backsteps in the sequels? 😭
The dialogue in this game is like a junior high kid writing what he thinks medieval people sounded like
IDK what's worse... the dialogue or the plot. I have no idea if the devs are just completely brain dead when it comes to creativity, or what... This had the worst story and writing of any single player game I can remember.
Huh..? Can you give an example of bad dialogue?
@razvanradoiu off the top of my head, no...but it's been weeks since I played it.
My impression was that it was awkward
The devs aren’t native English speakers are they?? Would make sense if not, what doesn’t make sense is stafields writing and dialogue that’s written by native English speakers whilst still feeling like a child has written it

@@JackSather It's even an achievement. Just carry 2 loved ones into your home and they'll slap each other.
Yea, that affinity system is so odd because you're not forced to interact with it in any way, yet it pulls the person you have the most affinity with into the CLIMAX OF THE STORY. The designers really should've ensured that this couldn't be some arbitrary random that you accidentally gave a rock to.

So they use the same systems as they did in the PS2 era and some games even use the same gameplay and design from back then too. This game is full of secret mechanics and interactions. I feel like it has two types of exploration. One being exploring the map and the other exploring how deep the mechanics and systems are. I keep finding things I had no idea were possible. The main moment I had like this was ending the quest for the guy being poisoned by the nun in vernworth. It felt a bit abrupt but I thought fuck it I’m going to go kidnap the doctor using a ferrystone and bring him back to the church but it turned out you could convince him to go help after the quest had ended and there was absolutely no indication that was an option other than my own intuition.
holy shit, i should have tried this. Something like this kinda happens with the Sphinx CBT quest of bringing a vase to a guy in Bakbatthal, you can suffer getting the vase to him, but if you bring him to the vase he gives you a different dialog scolding you for the kidnapping but then gets really happy and thanks you for bringing him over xd
Also as an extra, Medusa's head can literally petrify everything in the game, yes even golems, you can literally go and petrify whatever you want, even the final dragon or Talos which is amazing.
I was also bumbed by the amount of enemies from this game. I remember the cockatrice giant bird that could petrify you. And of course all the crazy monsters from the DLC of DD1.
I'm positive the gore cyclops isn't in the game, Undead Dragon, Death Himself, or literally mimics.
To be fair, the last 3 you listed weren't in the original dd1 either. Those didn't exist until the dark arisen dlc.
That was the biggest letdown as well. I'm was so tired of fighting enemies at the end.

I believe it was a bug that the Pawns would repeat the same thing so often. The most recent patch has made my Pawns say various things I've never heard them say before and reduced the amount of times they say the same line. However, it seems like they accidentally increased how often Hired Pawns are in suggesting you follow them for a quest they have knowledge of. I tell them No(Follow Me) and they keep harassing me every minute unless I un-check the quest.
I think part of the Japanese UI design is their maximalist media aesthetic in general. It comes from cultural differences where in general, East Asians value information and mass data, while Westerners prefer clean presentability. You can check the difference yourself by going to the Naver homepage, the main search engine of South Korea, and comparing it to Google.

As a long time DD1 fan. This game was one of my biggest let downs, more like DD1.5 right? Pretty sure Capcom rushed this game out and forced an earlier release date.
Different combinations of materials result in different creations.
It does feel that way, and it sucks because that's why the first game couldn't reach its full potential.
I don't think they expected it to be this popular because the first game wasn't that popular
Idk what yall are on about, the game is amazing and a significant upgrade from the first.
@@Super_Brolyit had a significant graphical update. The gameplay has had some updates, the use of physics is phenomenal but as for the vocations, the main meat of the gameplay, i found them a bit lacking when compared to first. Then there’s a shortage of items, craftable materials, less enemy variety surprisingly and a very bad armor and weapon variety.
Also, can I rant about this games bullshit ending? So, I loved the first game, so much. David Lodge as Gregori, the big red dragon, is excellent and I was so glad he came back for this game.. Until they totally butchered his role. Like he shows up, he sounds out of breath the entire time, literally pulls your "lover" out of his mystery pocket despite legit just being summoned, gives you a very not meaningful choice and is all like "Aight, hop on, lets go fight" and then yaps until you reach the arena to fight him.
Now, how was he handled in the first game? Zealot so full of himself is chanting Gregori's name all excited and Gregori fucking lands on the dude, smashes him and then makes fun of him. Tells you to seek him out in the old ruins when you think you're ready. When you eventually get there, he has your lover, but at least there was any window of time at all where that was possible, right? But instead of just giving you a choice, the first game also included a huge plot twist here, how the Duke of the city, all this time, was also an Arisen and that that Duke once sacrificed their lover so the dragon would leave and let him become the ruler of the city, now giving you the choice to essentially overthrow the Duke and take their place by doing the same now. It was a pretty cool wow moment because there was a sidequest to speak to the Duke's special lady and find out how much of a whackjob he is because he's so full of regret, choking the dutchess while shout a name that was, at the time, kinda random? That was the lover he sacrificed! (Says a lot that I remember all of this from like 8 years ago and can't fucking tell you the name of the bad guys in 2 even after your video straight up told me like twice, don't care).
So you choose to fight and Gregori starts spewing fire. You're 'lover' narrowly escapes, but the exit gets blocked by debris, so you have to run down a long corridor. Camera turns around as you're running to see Gregori plowing through the hall to chase you and if you run out of stamina, you die here. You escape through a door and his head gets stuck in it, so you're fighting just his head for a minute until he breaks free. Then you fight him in this big room until he smashes through the roof and you have to chase him outside. Gotta sprint across these massive sections of old castle walls while he does aggressive flybys, making the walls crumble and fall apart - again, if you don't make it across in time, you die. You reach a tower and climb to the top to shoot him out of the sky with a ballista and he plows through the tower as a result of a direct hit, seemingly eating you. Black screen. Suddenly, you're hanging onto his back as he flies. He's flying through clouds of harpies to try and shake you off while you climb up hi back to the spot over his chest and stab him, then you both fall into this volcano arena where now, and ONLY now, does it play out like in 2.
Also, I hated the final 'boss'. There actually was a final boss in the first game, full of more massive plot twists and a super cool mechanic involving your own character that made the end of the second playthrough a wild experience I never would have expected. But in 2, it's just a walking segment and then a cutscene? I wanted to fight the damn giant dragon! wtf??
I like the combat and the graphics, but in EVERY other aspect, it's either a downgrade or an outright butchering.

Honestly it was unbelievable that they re-used so many enemy types from the base game of DD1. So many interesting enemy types in the DD1s DLC just went completely unused.
not only the dlc, the online game too, Dragon's Dogma Online was crazy good and crazy annoying to play outside of japan, it had a lot of enemy variety despite the many recolors (literal recolors like a white Chimera with different magic), the Sphinx came from online actually, it was the first introduced new boss in Online if I remember well. There where even raids of up to 12 players fightings caves, rading a castle full of monsters or the one i really liked that was fighting a huge tree fella that had people on the ground fighting while others where climbing into the thing, it also had interesting classes like Alchemist or Sceptor which is similar to the spearhand they introduced, they could have added the Alchemist too but didn't.
Hope the expansion dlc they will do will add in more stuff from online cus its such a wasted potential/material that is locked behind a game that can't even be played to its fullest or even it middest with the current private server development.

But did they spend 12yrs working on this? Or were they like, “hey it’s been 12yrs since we made that dragon’s dogma game. It did well. High prices, give the brothel ladies more of a story, have the queen’s army harassing near by villages, and have her sending assassins after you. Then give her a twist of an ending. Oh! @@SeasoningTheObese brother what are you smoking, this game has so much shit and the combat is great and theres a lot of unique and interesting things in the game, and it was made with only around 400 people where most capcom games have over 1000, you have no idea how making videogames work, you have no idea what goes into it, also they didnt spend exactly 5 years on it they had to make dmc5 special edition and the director having to supervise the new anime and mobile game, stop smoking it brother.
@SeasoningTheObese you have no idea how game development works, you have no idea how making games work.
They probably expended at least 4-5 years making the game. Capcom released a lot of games in 12 years, they couldn't expend a lot in just one game, especialy considering they fact that the 1st game did OK compared to other games from all their diferent franchises.
There’s no cheese to get into the island, it’s a literal pathway through the mountain. It’s a trial to get through, and the reward is the opportunity to get those vocations. Fair enough to a lot of the criticism, but I gotta point that out
Also, free sex at the brothel if you expose one dude ingame. It's a Platinum card.
Oh there is a cheese to get to the island, it's just not Drabnir's Grotto. You can literally phase through the upper part of the Godsbane door in Battahl with several vocations lol

In Red Dead Redemption 2, those NPCs in Strawberry working with wood boards ... if you spend enough time around them, one will eventually say to the other "A vampire in Saint Denis, can you believe that?!". Yeah, I couldn't believe it either.
I am so glad you decided to make a video on this game, I've also got just over 100 hours in it and it was probably my most anticipated game of this year and I was... conflicted. The game is both really addicting because of the combat and pawns but horrible dated with all the awful NPC dialogue, lack of RPG elements, and just a ton of questionable design choices. The "world-building" if you can call it that is the worst in any RPG that I've played in 10+ years (coincidentally, roughly since I played DD:DA), not a single NPC is interesting, the story is laughably bad. So disappointing.
Edit: Yes, I was VERY disappointed with the enemy variety. I bought this assuming it was a sequel, not a remake. I'm so sick of goblins and saurians.
I actually started hating combat in the end, because it served absolutely zero purpose to fight them for the 934,247nd time, for worthless materials.
You do kinda forget to mention for the Mystic Spearhand upgrade you help a town that was attacked by a Dragon numerous times throughout the story after which the guy you talked to offers to train you. Some other Vocations are eally just as simple as talking to someone but for that one there was a quest you may have forgotten was attached toi the town
Wait, what? There was a quest to help a town? I just went down south and found a tower where Sigurd happened to be and we fought a dragon in a quest lol.
one thing, you do not have to cheese to the endgame island to get all vocations, i just was exploring around and found the other way naturally to it (the underwater cave catacombs path or whatever its called)
it feels like that pawn dialogue was written by an AI that was asked "top ten adventurer tips"
Dragons Dogma 2 felt like it’s honestly dd1 with updated graphics. I loved the first. Hundred of 100s in the first including the DLC.
It’s a solid 7/10 for me and I am enjoying it, but as long as we waited, I expected a little more out of this.
I felt like the areas were more enclosed than DD1. If you played the first game. Remember Bluemoon Tower. You're first incredible fight with the Griffin.
The giant sinkhole in the middle of the city post game, where you could fight an undead dragon and gain holy weapons depending on how much damage you dealth. But it was also linked to other players worlds, so the dragon had like a million health points.
💯. The potential for a 10 is there, but really shit the bed on missed opportunities. So many systems were really shallow, that could have been improved.
Updated graphics and cut down features.
DD1 was marginally better without the DLC included.
With? DD2 is literal garbage in comparison.
As for the pawn system, I said this way back with DD1
It would be easy to mix co-up in this by allowing one player to host a game (who will remain their own arisen) while the other players will take control over their own main pawn, spawning in the Host's game (but retaining their own skills and gear.)
With a max of 3 additional players, the third taking control of the Host's main pawn (like before, just looking like the pawn, but keeping their abilities and gear as Arisen.)
I'm also no expert, but I believe peer to peer co-up would be low maintenance on their servers, as it will mostly rely on the Host's game/pc
Glad I'm not alone in my mixed feelings for this game, i felt like I was *supposed* to love this game but man it fumbles at every corner. Not a "bad" game but it rly feels like it's missing so much
Well put. Tons of wasted potential.
The magic archer is a powerhouse of a class. You can shred through enemies like it’s nothing. One of my favorites!

-DD1 had a coherent story to follow. Even the end boss post game was more story driven and the twist reveal was perfect back than.
-There's actually LESS pawn customization with personality in DD2.
-You could legit sit down with your pawn first game and tell them to shut up.

Don't feel you need to force yourself to continue playing. I have bought 6 copies of DD:DA, gifted a few copies, I own it on 4 separate consoles. Needless to say, I love Dragon's Dogma and have loved it for a decade. I returned DD2 after like 30-40 hours. It ruined literally everything I loved about the first game and I just couldn't force myself through it anymore. The only thin,g the ONE thing I could say I liked about it was that it's kind of cool seeing your character hold your sheath blade as a Fighter. That's it. Everything else was a step back.

for the "lovers fighting part" you have to max out your relationships with two npcs via giving them flowers then carry them to your house and they will start fighting and you'll get an achievement called theres plenty of arisen to go around
As person that played a lot of the first game i just love the second game and things just click on the place for me, i understand 100% why people dont like this game but i dont care and thats why after so many years so many people still love DD and consider the game a cult classic a hidden gem and the hype for a Dark Arisen DLC on the second game is big

I actually restarted dragons dogma 1 three times because I thought I was somehow missing important parts of the story. I was actually happy when the dlc, I think it was a dlc, was basically just an endless dungeon.
I kinda feel bad for them because it's like they want to tell a story but just suck at it. Not bad enough I'm going to buy this game though.

Not that it matters a lot since the NPCs are still very shallow.

Everybody thinks you can't use Warfarer unless you equip that one skill but you don't have to. As long as you are Warfarer, you can switch weapons in the inventory menu.
I have experienced the "fighting over you deal" it's referring to if you've romanced more than one character and both show up at your house. They will end up fighting each other over you.
It's a weird mechanic... and deeply hilarious when you absolutely did not mean to romance someone (i.e max their affinity with you) so I had two random NPCs I've done quests for show up to I guess try to bang, only to fight each other over me.
Awesome video, btw the examine button = sprint button can be changed in the options (not in the controls tab of course...?). Still sucks that it's the default but yeah you can fix it.
A big gripe I have that doesn't seem to have come up is Dungeons. there's two big ruins in the main quests that seem like a setup for a mid and large sized dungeon and both of them are just an elevator. The part of the game with the would-be large dungeon even has you pursuing a group of people and they go up wooden scaffolding that randomly breaks after they use it forcing you to use the other path, a classic "you're chasing the bad guy but he doesn't have to go through the dungeon" trope, and yet the next room is just the elevator the bad guy opted out of for the sake of taking the rickety horribly unsafe wooden scaffolding stairs.
Also that group does contain the false Sovran and he does either die at your hands at the top or flee after failing to stop your progress, but TBH I forgot he was there until I did it a second time AND was formulating my steam review about the story so the fact that you missed it in the same way just confirms to me that it's so forgettable unimportant he might as well have not been there.
An additional story gripe, the "dragon" in this game never shows up until it gets summoned at the end, so in the previous game where it was at least mentioned as wreaking havoc elsewhere while you try to take it down, this Dragon just picked an arisen and phoned it in, dipping out back to the rift to watch interdimensional TV or something.
Also the extent they go to to name things like 'skie" to maintain a theme no doubt trying to dodge some maybe copywrite issues with some other names is just... childish and bad this time around. I was really impressed with DD1 having shit like anodyn and how they spoke because it was fresh but real words, and this time we get things like Dangoun's Skie or some shit when it could just be dragoon's jump and even though we know that's Final Fantasy I'm pretty sure copyright law doesn't cover that deep of a nuance. A dragon knight jumping with a spear is not owned by Square Enix.
Me personally, I'm thankful reviewers like you have been as critical of the game as you have been. Besides all of the OBVIOUS issues with the game as a modern AAA title, it really is just a glow up of the original game. And truth be told, I haven't relly enjoyed my time in Dragon's Dogma as much as I was hoping I would, so I'm glad I didn't invest 400 clams into a PS5 just to play it. Awesome video as always!

To give the game some credit back you seem to have missed many interactions with PNCs, including quest lines and lore explanations.
You would have understood who the watcher is, how to reach the volcanic island, even the story behind the little tree in the ending credits. The exploration in this game isn't just running around finding chests, it's also going back to places you've already visited to talk to PNC you've already met before.
That being said, it's not a natural thing to do and I even finished the game a first time in 20 hours not knowing this. Took 80 hours for the second playthrough.
yeah I agree that Jack has missed some interactions in the game, but honestly I doubt that would've changed his view of the story.
I've played DD2 for over 160 hours and did virtually everything there was to be done in the game, and the story is still a mess, with some plots that make no sense and some storylines that seem clearly unfinished or rushed. The game is fun when looking at combat and exploration, but the story is TOTALLY not the reason to play it. It lacks the charisma of the first game. It's weird to see Itsuno speaking about the game with such high praise, when it's clear that the game shines for technical reasons (clearly not speaking about performance here), but not for narrative ones.
To add insult to injury, game progression is all over the place, with some oddly terrible choices such as locking certain classes until the late game

Yoooooooo 😅
Yep, that’s not a translation error - Itsuno uses the verb “asobu” which means literally “to play” but more used to express “to hang out”…yet literally all you do is escort the NPC with a near total inability to interact with them outside of their aiding you in combat and spitting out the most nonsensical, out-of-circumstance single line of dialogue when pressing a button to TALK with them. Not to mention them getting lost every 20 seconds if you turn a corner too quick. There’s absolutely no development from the first game in this regard, and it’s really disappointing.
Really disingenuous on a few points, my fighter pawn launched me up all the time. I shot an explosive arrow, switched to my sword and my warrior pawn launched me up to the explosive. They learn by fighting, you can’t just expect them to know everything off the bat.
My pawn was also hired, so I hired their pawns in return and met a few pawns that leveled up around the same speed as mine. I’d send them away with a gift and then summon them later to see if their Arisen was playing. Still have those pawns saved in my favourites.
If two NPC with max affinity enter your house at the same time, they will fight, there are clips on TH-cam.
That perfectly timed fuck at 0:31 is flawless. Man waiting 1 second after TH-cam’s demonetization mark to swear. I respect it
yo @JackSather there are a lot of unfinished things but what itsuno was talking about at 16:07 is actually in the game lol
The first game was better 100%. The story still kinda sucked but there was at least a decent endgame and a cool twist at the end with becoming that God character. And the dark arisen dlc adds a tonne to the endgame too DD2 has none of that, the closest you get to an endgame is a shitty timed thing where the world is red and enemies are slightly tougher.
Story wise I feel like I 'get' what they wanted to do, the blue boi ghost is basically using you all for his amusement, the reason everything feels like a stage play is because IT IS, you're are there to be the hero and win the day and everything revolves around lining up for you to do it so the cycle can repeat, there's constant talk among NPCs that that dont know if they made their choices because they truly want to and in the rare time an NPC would make one that prevents you from fulfilling the role as hero, they're 'changed' as seen when you get the Godsbane.
The Dragon knows his role will never change and has become so apathetic he doesnt care anymore and is subtly guiding you to making true change. Similar vibes are felt with key characters that are outside the cycle like the Maesters, Dragon Forged and Mad King.
It could have been done *so* much better though.
Well, the creator said he didn't either game, so that just says what a liar or ignoramous you are.
To be clear, people coming to your house and NPCS fighting over you IS in fact in the game... But it is far from a natural occurrence. You have to go out of your way to intentionally make both of these events happen; I.E., gift bombing an NPC in order to make them love you and then guide them to the area of another NPC that loves you. They will then fight. As for the house visits, just DONT collect your following physical escort quest request or physical reward. The npc tasked with gifting you a thing is programed to hone in on your location and physically seek you out. As long as you are in the same safe zone as they reside. They WILL find you.
There’s a point to the main story being completely unrelated to the dragon. The dragon is pretty much like a force of nature that chooses you, and then you have to get strong enough that when he comes back you dont die. The main story of both games is basically a long training arc of your character preparing to fight the dragon. I do recommend playing the first game before the second, because of lot of lore makes more sense, and there’s a lot of hidden things that I picked up on that new players wouldn’t have. Also do every main quest before the move on part. Like Brant’s quests, do all of them before going on to the ceremony. They’re very easy most of the time and give more explanation for what’s going on.
Edit: The whole becoming king thing is a false ending. There’s another like 4th of the game to go through.
I haven’t played DD2 at all yet but I did love DD1 even though I’ve played it more recently after seeing other people play it. I do want to play DD2 but it’s crazy that there are less monsters and the story isn’t better. I figured after all these years that DD2 would have been so much better than DD1. It seems people say it is still fun to play and I’ll get to it soon just so I can make my own opinion on the game.
It is still fun to me. The sphinx riddles were cool to do.
man i expect for the game to improve its essential since the combat still holds up and thats given time seeing other things needs improvements. man Elden Ring adn Armored Core 6 spoiled me w/ how these masocore titles are streamlined w/ QoL, UX, and accesibility.
My whole thing is that this game does not have multiple saves so you can play with different classes and builds, I really hope they add multiple saves soon
Also one thing I want to add is you CANNOT rename your pawn after creating them. I fucking made Legolas look alike character and his name is just “MainPawn” and now I can’t change it so no one will even pick him up. Absolute backwards system.
i love how they showed me all those characters during the credits, like it actually meant something.
also it doesn‘t really matter how good the combat feels, after a hundred hours of fighting the same enemies.
don’t get me wrong, i did have my share of fun with this, it’s just that they could have done so much more with this.
being a strong arisen in this game just felt kind of pointless to me.
Alright though, but,

Played on PS5. Never had any issues. But I honestly can't tell if you got the "TRUE" ending to the game. There's a lot of details story wise that you missed. But you have to go to the Unmoored world to see the true ending of the game. Technically speaking, if you never go to the Unmoored world, you never actually play Dragon's Dogma 2. You just Played Dragon's Dogma. That's the reason why it's the "same game"
SPOILER WARNING
The way the lore works is in Cycles. Every cycle there is a dragon and an arisen. The dragon finds the arisen, rips out their heart, the Arisen gets strong enough to fight and kill the dragon, everything is great, the arisen eventually becomes/transforms into a dragon, and then they repeat the cycle. Everything is always the same. The characters in the world are supposed to be there to play their role in making sure the dragon and arisen complete the cycle. In order to get to the Unmoored world which is hinted at in the main story if you talk to the crazy old guy on the beach before the sunken castle pops up. But the true ending to the game is what happens once you break the cycle of the Dragon and the Arisen. You both have to die.
The reason the game keeps making you replay that dragon fight is because you're supposed to climb down onto the dragon's heart/chest area, use the empowered godbane sword or whatever it's called on yourself while holding the dragon, and that's how you get the true ending. The dragon is giving you hints about killing yourself when you're flying to the last fight and that's why the ghost resets things if you talk to him. So that you can get the fake ending the first time experience fighting the dragon, then get the true ending the second time.
0:08 never thought I'd see you in video game form
