Trudeau says national security reports on foreign election interference were available to MPs | FULL

- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended his government during question period in the House of Commons in Ottawa on Wednesday, against an ongoing controversy regarding allegations of foreign election interference in the 2019 and 2022 Canadian elections.
"We have no information on federal candidates receiving money from China, that continues to be the case," Trudeau stated.
When pressed by the leader of the Official Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, about a Global News report that said Trudeau and his government were briefed on two high-level national security reports before and after the 2019 election suggesting they were warned that Chinese government officials were funneling money to Canadian political candidates, Trudeau continued to state that he was never briefed on the issue.
"I'm happy to clear up the confusion about what the committee reports -- yes, the committee reports to me and the government, but it also reports to parliamentarians and shares those reports. This is the way many committees function in our government and will continue to," the prime minister stated.
When asked by the leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, if the government would launch an independent inquiry into the allegations of Chinese interference, Trudeau said, "we have no information on federal candidates receiving money from China. But, at the same time Canadians are concerned about these various reports and allegations because there is ongoing attempts of interference by China and other countries which is why we are putting forward an independent expert to look at the entire landscape around foreign interference."

Anyways. The deal is this. The Chinese try to influence CHINESE citizens or Chinese immigrants with family in China they can use to put pressure on them. They don''t buy Canadian officials or break into dominion voting machines or pay Rudy and the Kraken witch to lie to everyone. And from what I learned reading different police and investigation reports, those people do NOT TALK! to Canadian, US, or any other authority except CHINESE ones, because they are scared shiatless. We are LUCKY that we got to even find out about this.
There IS a CSIS report and THOSE are usually NOT for public dissemination. But POILIEVRE has read it. so AGAIN, if there was something that YOU needed to know, he'd tell you (unless he'd go to jail over the National Security Act.
Little Pierre is NOT the most honest guy around. He makes up a LOT of smoke when he wants to throw shade at the opposition. Just like he takes selfies with criminal truckers to buy their votes.

NDP requested it before the official opposition did. Why did the conservatives/official opposition wait until after the NDP acted? Why are ppl not suspicious of the Cons when an Ontario MPP has been kicked out of the Conservative party because of the interference?
As much as I am not a fan of the Liberals or JT the hypocrisy of PP is off the charts given the record of the Harper government with respect to inappropriate conduct and undermining elections. He was an active a member of that Government and defended their conduct. And as all the hysterical JT haters get whipped up let me just give them a small reminder of some the CPC conduct -- robocalls, criminal conviction of Dean Del Mastro, in&out scandals, Prorogation of Parliament etc. The Liberals should have taken measures months ago but even some of their own past leadership and most security experts have said a public inquiry is not appropriate as there are better steps that ensure it protects security measures. I note that during the Harper period PP and the CPC would not even agree to public inquires on matters such as missing indigenous women but when they can play something for partisan purposes are willing to actually throw Canada overboard in the blind thirst for power (not that the Liberals would act any better if the roles were reversed)

I guess I'm just your basic Albertan because I just don't understand how an independent rapporteur appointed by the Liberal government can be truly independent? So if by his own admission that Canadians deserve to be rightly assured that the Government has had no foreign influence over any of it's members, wouldn't a Commissioner chosen by ALL the parties in the House of Commons to form a truly independent and impartial inquiry into whether any outside interference happened at all during the last election warrants any further study. Or, if an investigation from the RCMP is needed, or, if Charges against people outside and inside the government should be explored, or, if after the inquiry the Commissioner whomever they may be has concluded decides that no interference entered the government at all and we can have full confidence in our elections and government. It seems pretty easy, even to an Albertan like me that we deserve as Canadian Citizens to have full confidence in our Election process and Elected Members of Parliament that no outside interference has had an influence upon them.
That makes sense, even to a basic Quebecer like me. We see eye to eye. Pretty sure we all do.
