That high note that Floor sings at the end is not part of the original version, so Tarja did not sing it. The ending to that song was modified many years after Tarja left. In the album the music ends with the choirs and the orchestra fading away slowly.

@@roybradshaw3623 she has a new band but she is a solo star now. Her best of :living the dream double album came out December 02, 2022. With their 4th album ONCE (2004) they found worldwide fame and launched a world tour.
This is recorded in the final date, October 21, 2005 of ONCE upon a Dream. Hartwell Arena, Helsinki Finland. The band are all Finnish. Tarja, Emppu, and Tuomas are the founding members since 1996. This was Tarja's last night they knew. She didn't. She only found out the next morning. Anyway after that news released this was planned as a DVD and was released as such bearing the title End of an Era.

GLS with Tarja is majestic and sentimental (fitted with the lyric/message of the song). Toumas originally arranged the song that way (without hey or high note at the end) and in my opinion it was beautiful.

I'm glad that you still enjoyed this one. I do think that Floor's Wacken 2013 version is the best rendition of this song, but it's not even fair to compare her best performance (with their best produced DVD) to Tarja's mediocre performance. I mean that this was pretty mediocre performance to her, and she has done so much better with this song than this End Of An Era version, where she was sick. It is still great DVD, regardless that she wasn't at her best.
I love Floor, but I will always miss the old Nightwish with Tarja. That was the sound I fell in love, and they sounded so completely unique back then. It was amazing how this shy bullied country girl became gothic goddess in just few years. These two songs you have done are not good to represent how they really sounded on her era. Actually I suggest that you do their whole discography, because it's so fricking amazing. Even "Angels Fall First" from 1997 has some good stuff, and that was meant to be just a demo. And these old DVD's are also pure gold.

When Tarja was fired( Tuomas informed her right after the preformace of the “Phantom “ the very same show that you watched. Well I been Nightwish fan all my life but I like Floor much more. She is perfect in Nightwish ❤.
In my opinion sounds somehow like Tarjas singing is stay behind the playing music...like she sings too slowly...but that's my opinion they are so different singer. Tarja have her opera voice and Floor can paint all colors ❤.

Tarja's extensive training and expertise is in operatic vocals, favored by Tuomas and legions of fans during her era...Floor on the other hand had a year of classical training, then musical theater and the rock academy...

She has lots of versatility. Her choice in singing is exactly that, her choice. Its the sound they wanted. As if the roles were reversed you know Tarja would put her own stamp on the old songs.

I dunno... I love Tarja... her voice made me NW fan from the very beginning - she was so different from everything I have heard. And her style of singing totally matched the music... It was like listening to rock opera, every single song. And that made them unique. later others followed, but no one like Tarja. She made the band famous, the songs special and to this date I honestly prefer her. Just sentimentally ... grew up listening to Tarja and she has a very special place in my heart. Floor is a master of her art, for sure, but I never connected with her singing... never got the Floorgasm - just not feeling it. Might be b/c I kept reading all the Tarja trashing by Floor fans and I sabotaged myself cuz I feel so protective of Tarja. I know it sounds dumb... but I know for a fact I'm not the only one. Great reaction... You should keep reacting to both, b/c it's sad not to include original performances... why not have it all? Cheers
Frankly I like Floor's voice more. But I do understand your feelings about Tarja. She was the singer of the band you "fell in love with". I became a fan when Floor was the singer. So I have those feelings about Floor. I do respect Tarja and she has a great voice. But it doesn't work for me. I hope this makes sense..

I was thinking about it last night and had I not been a NW fan prior to Floor taking the rein, I will most likely be completely smitten by her, as I see so many have. But what can one do... can't control the heart. Whatever the case, it's a great music I will always listen to instead of modern pop, hip-hop or what not currently spinning on the radio etc.

Tarja, s voice is all the way operatic. For those who like this stile of voice it is ok. But when I have to believe what so many singers and voice coaches say about Floor, s voice (and I suppose they know what they mean,) is that the latter is able to show a whole lot of voice in one song sometimes. That makes the difference and moreover a song and sound very attractive imho. Just saying.
I think it depends on the kind of voice you prefer. I like the sound of Floor more. But that doesn't mean that Tarja is bad or something. Thanks for your reaction. 👍

Loved your reaction IMR, really really good. Your initial letdown at the end broke my heart for you, I’m glad you go into reactions completely blind, but knowing the way this song is sung now, it only stands to reason why you might be left feeling as though you’re hanging.

The end of the song as you know it from Floor is Floor's own invention to make more of the song Tarja could never have made that note tbh and also you don't want to hear this song live from Anette trust me, not to be rude cuz Anette was a good singer on studio versions, but live not really my cup of tea (just being honest)

to be fair...this song was one of the few in which Tarja did not have a big finish, so it is logical to presume that it was planned this way by Tuomas...
Tuomas has gone back and changed a lot of the old stuff. They have changed some vocals, like the final belt from Floor is not in the original. And they have added stuff for Troy to play, so isn't just drinking in the backstage for half of the gig... Tarja is a bonafide opera singer and would have no issues hitting "the note", if it was done back then as well. And the music is much more fuller with Troy participating in with his pipes. It is basically Ghost Love Score 2.0 with Floor. And to be honest, it was Ghost Love Score 0.5 with Annette... She could not fill in Tarja's boots at all. But Tuomas being the master composer he is, the Annette era songs with Annette sound good too.
There are also slight lyrical differences, for instance when Floor sings _"sitting_ on the shoulders of an angel", instead of _"singing_ on the shoulders of an angel".

Tarja is clearly a gifted vocalist and does a great job on Ghost Love Score. However, she sings in the same operatic style throughout the song, whereas Floor brings SO much more drama to the song by changing styles to portray different parts and moods within the epic journey that is Ghost Love Score - sweet in places, gritty in others, passionate - you name it, she hits it. Tarja's performance, while great, just comes off sort of one-dimensional by comparison to Floor's. There are no OMG moments in this version like there are in Floor's interpretation. If this were the only version you ever saw you would be blown away, no doubt - but after you've seen Floor do Ghost Love Score (especially at Wacken 2013) this one doesn't shine quite so brightly.

With all due respect, hogwash. I absolutely disagree. I've watched Floor's Wacken Ghost Love Score, her Puerto Rico GLS, her Buenos Aires GLS, and her Tampa GLS. I recently watched her Tampere version too. She's good, I think she's the best vocalist Nightwish could ever ask for after Tarja. I think Tuomas was right when he said there will be no Nightwish when Floor's gone, for there's no vocalist who could top her after her time in Nightwish. I always come back to this one. Every time. Tarja masterfully builds the dynamics of the song. She doesn't need to perform fancy vocal acrobatics, she doesn't need to perform a power belt, she doesn't need to make a jaw-dropping growl, she doesn't need to make a money note. The Choir in the background is the crown jewel of Ghost Love Score, and when she sings, she sings in bel canto so as not to distract from them, but to help highlight them. She sings it understated, but it's only until she performs her staccatos 11:49 to the end, that the full force of her dynamic building hits you. I get goosebumps everytime. If it doesn't get you, that's fine. But to say that we all need a belting high note at the end to feel anything is absolute hogwash. Ghost Love Score is a masterfully crafted song, all it's individual instrumental parts. It's just a shame that in Floor's version the choirs been gutted so you can hear her better.
And the reverse in Phantom. Floor leaves me flat. Henk too is great as a stage phantom. But I far prefer Marko's dark menacing version.
though Tarja was deprived of a big finish ,here, she lavishly offers incredible ones on many others... in this concert she shines with an angelic, deep, resonant voice which catapulted Nightwish to their heights...you must also try "from wishes to eternity" concert

I like Floors voice and timing more and the grand finale that she brings, is phenomenal. But, what I like about this version, is that you can hear better the orchestra and choir. If I could have those with Floor, then this song would be pure heaven.
The choir is Voices and the London UK philharmarnoic symphony respectively. Both were first on ONCE since now they had the sales to justify having a budget to pay for the use of these groups. In todays money that being 1 million Euro never mind how much it takes to take the band and the crew around the world to put on these shows. To pay all the fees, taxes, anciallry staff, meet contracted guarentees for contractors to such events. You will spend millions to make millions. Then the label and the angents get their cut. The promoter needs to be paid. The venue needs to be paid. Then you get paid. Then the taxman man gets his cut. You get what's left over. Also the love of the fans. Something BTW they are still succeful enough to carry on doing these last 17 years. To date Once is still the best selling NW album. The concert was the final date of the Once Upon a Tour 2004/5. End of an Era is the name given to the concert after the fact and the DVD recording thereof. Recorded October 21, 2005 in the then named Hartwell arena, 11, 500 attending. Current events and sanctions leaves the arena unsponsored. Hail

Floors version is much better and much more varied. Also has all the highlights that Tarja is missing. Where Floor sings himself, Tarja lets the tape sing. It also just sounds the same all the time. Only opera

@@calanor4130 ... the Nightwish Biography talks about constant conflicts with Tuomas's controlling style ...Sami , their original bassist was asked ( fired by their de facto manager Ewo, due to serious conflict over Tuomas's control)..in 2000, Tuomas called for the dissolution of the band over each member wishing to do solo projects and Sami's dissatisfaction...Tuomas conditioned the reversal of this decision on the act of replacing Sami ....Tarja spoke of being ignored "feeling as though she was only a guest vocalist", thus hiring a personal manager, who began to voice her concerns for overly long and exhaustive tours, poor accommodations, security and lack of basic privacy, inability to influence the music on any level...

Tarja's husband/manager claims that no one has even bothered to interview him for it , and Tarja , only tangentially...her husband also took took author to court over many claims made in it regarding Tarja and his relations with Tuomas,... the court , after reviewing much of the documentation he produced, found to be a valid basis for countering the claims made in the book, particularly, in the last year before the split..
@@bornready6924 Yes, I've read about the court case, although they dropped the case, if I remember correctly because the court felt that it had not caused any significant damage to Cabuli's career. Well, anyway, perhaps I'll buy the biography, even though I am a bit wary of spending money on a book where the validity of the information might be highly questionable.
Floor is the best from Holland
Loved this song with Tarja and now even more with Floor. I like that the orchesration is pulled down more and the singer gets to be in the highlights more nowadays. Also I was not so big fan of Tarjas vocals after her opera-school, she lost her beautiful cristal clarity there. But will still enjoy the studio version of hers every now and then. The combosition is amazing and that has stayed the same. After all it is Nightwish song.

I'm sorry, I know this will be hated, but that's just awful. Again, not her talent. Clearly she can sing well. It's just so out of place. The pronunciation of "the" as "thee" and so much more, it's just mind-numbingly boring to watch compared to Floor. The low larynx position; I'm just not into it. Tarja should be singing arias, not paired with a metal band. Brings the energy down way too far.
You should watch her other performances of this song. They're much better. She was extremely sick with a throat infection during this concert.

Tarja broke boundaries when she propelled Nightwish to international stardom. These stereotypes that "metal" should be sung in a particular way is out-dated and belongs in the thrash-can.
Her pronunciation is "weird" because she is singing with a classical technique - which has an effect on the pronunciation, whomever the singer is. If you actually really know Floor, you would know that many of the Old After Forever songs are just as "weird" in the pronunciation because their Floor experiments much more with her classical technique. Estranged, Forlorn Hope, The Key and Monolith of Doubt are just a few out of many examples.

If she was not dedicated and cared, even though it was well known that she was planning to leave on her own accord, she still declined numerous offers from other bands, groups and labels during her time with Nightwish. You don't like this particular song with her, and that is 100 %, okay, but when you start making a list as of why and presume to know what's in her head - then you come across as a hater in disguise.
