      Don't think the number of cylinders matters. Important is the sofistication of the engine and the general setup of the car. All reviewers of the Ford GT praise it's rawness and racey feeling, and it's a six cylinder like F1 cars.

    People are really down on this car, keep calling it a mustang? I don’t see the comparison what so ever, I personally think it’s beautiful.

    • @flyingphoenix113
      @flyingphoenix113 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's just too soft and too boring. The original M8 had the engine straight out of the McLaren F1, and the 850Csi had a detuned McLaren F1 engine. This has.... a slightly faster version of BMW's ubiquitous 4.4l TT V8. And, to top it all off, it's mated to a rather slowly torque converter auto instead of a dual clutch. The powertrain is what lets the car down, not the styling.

  • @stubones

    I love this car but the claims it's quicker than the M5 Comp are laughable. it's over 100kgs heavier and has the same engine and running gear. It's scientifically impossible for it to be quicker. Motorsport magazine did a 0-200kph run and the M8 Comp too a shade over 12s. The standard M5 has done the same sprint in the 10s so the myth is debunked.

    • @snffz3492
      @snffz3492 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no way M8 does a 12 sec 200km if that's what you mean. It should be at least equal to the M5, my theory is that it's probably a quicker M5 to 100 and that's it.. Just like GT63S, which is quicker to 100 than E63, but pretty much the same after that. But again we'll have to wait for magazines to properly test them. My expectations were to high for this thing, let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

    • @stubones
      @stubones 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@snffz3492 It's exactly what I mean. I've just watched a video where it does exactly that. I didn't expect it. I expected it to do a lot better. Either something was wrong with the car they used, the driver didn't give the car maximum acceleration or the claims just aren't true. I'd like to see quite a few acceleration tests so we can get an accurate repeatable result, not just take the result for one or two tests. With the M5 and E63S, some drag races the AMG won and some the M car.

I'll say about the gear shift times that it's unusually slow in the video because my M5 is much quicker, like DC quick.

That said, it seems to me, the electronic masters take away from the joy and involvement of driving. I am a purist at heart.

  • @DavidDatura

    So in conclusion a big, heavy and quite characterless fast BMW. It’s been that way for a while now. There hasn’t been a great M car since the early 2000s. But due to emissions and safety regulations it’s understandable. They’re not miracle workers after all. And we’re at the sunset of the petrol engined drivers car anyway.
    My enthusiasm has moved onto the classic car world, while it’s still legal to drive them anyway. Most modern cars are not that much fun anymore. It’s why I purchase Thoroughbred & Classic Cars now rather than Car magazine and Autocar which were my staples for decades! All the talk nowadays (again understandable) is about electric cars, but they just bore me silly!

      Nowhere near. Too heavy. Too big. Too cumbersome. It has the power and the brakes, but it would be licked on a track, and even more devastated on a tight B-road.

    "Sophisticated car"; sophisticated maintenance bills to boot! 😎. I guess if you can afford the car, you can afford the bills. Too many bells & whistles for me. I miss the days of having a "Bilstein Suspension", getting in the car; throw it in drive & GO! The older Bummers & Porsches: PRICELESS!

    I think its a disappointment, should have had atleast 700hp, faster gearbox and should be atleast 100kgs lighter than a M5. Doesnt jutify the price premium over a M5 especially considering it has a very similar interior and exact powertrain. More Gt cruiser than super/sports car. Bentley seems to be a better buy at the price.

  • @Magic_Vince

    M850i surely is the better choice. Or a sportscar if you actually are into track driving.

  • @Raven_A5
    @Raven_A5 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The M8 kinda has a boring sounding engine imo. Other than that, I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s a super sports sedan, it’s not gonna perform like a super car.

    Fast, competent, expensive/exclusive and attractive (but certainly not beautiful in my eyes), it is also more complex than ever - something BMW is extremely bad at managing as a "product". Just got rid of a 2016 228i that, after only the first year, started to rack up all kinds of problems, ranging from just annoying to dangerous (it would put itself in Park at a light - in LA traffic!). Never again. The M8 could come with a bundle of cash in the trunk and I'd still not buy it. I don't want to know even more details than I already do about my service manager's kids. The 3rd and last Beemer for me.
    This level of performance, too, is largely academic, anyway. For the 99%, there is no way to use it all on public roads, even if you're alone. If this is another indicator of where this class of car is going, I'm not interested. No wonder more old, analog cars are shooting up in price. They're actually fun to drive and more engaging, overall.
