I got started by planting the bottom inch of green onions in my back yard. Right in the nasty dirt my back yard had. Even weeds did not grow back there, but green onions did! And, it was the greatest encouragement to see growth the very next day! I love green onions, both for flavor, and for nostalgia! LOL
I too have a lively garden in Las Veas over 30 fruit tree, ranging from white sapote, guava,citrus and stone fruit, plus berry and vegetables
That was one BEAUTIFUL tree collard! John never ceases to inspire & challenge me ....

Full sun in Texas is much different too. I’ve has struggles with a few plants that can’t handle a full southern exposure, let alone a western exposure. Great episode, I’m glad you found inspirational ideas at a neighbor.
This video is exactly what I needed to hear! Try growing plants in different locations to experiment and see which area is best for different plants! Those garden beds are really wonderful...I'd love to make that sweet potato box! Did he add in the worms, or are his boxes open and resting on earth and that is where they came from??? Thanks :)

I’ve also increased my vegetable intake since watching. Tree collards is on my list to grow, I salivate every time I watch a video and John eats one 😂 That’s saying a lot since I use to hate veggies 🤪

Omg, this is the garden of my dreams. I am getting better and have also been thinking of making higher and deeper raised beds. Wow. I love seeing how he makes use of so much shade. I need more shade structures. I look around and unfortunately, almost no one knows to use shade in this hot sun. Strange people. I would love to see a bit more time dedicated to the shade structures or shade curtains, etc.
Yeah so I’m in Las Vegas too and some of, my block wall is crumbling and it’s not from water. I’ve got to reinforce the walls this winter. However my garden is just surviving now with the excessive heat warnings. I keep adding compost from the kitchen and my worms love it 😍

GOALS
Hey love the Teal Color r themed but also consider building a treehouse over just a house that tears down the forest. Trees should be building blocks no tearing blocks. It can be funky and swirlyio just needs a bit of adjusting imagination and blueprinting and there we go and inventive you might get more followers because your not just helping humanity but your helping the World. We are not only making channels grow but It inspire others to experiment and TH-cam Channels will grow when we choose to help the world 2 ways in one stone. Building a tree house and putting gardens in it. It can maybe make new species
You can also grow native plants that are edible or ornamental plants.

Does that really taste like kale? If it does. I'm definitely growing some. I can't seem to grow enough kale to keep up with demand. I put it in everything. It's one of my favorite foods.

Can I grow a tree from any collard green or just certain varieties? I'm growing my first real garden this year and I'm pretty clueless. I just moved to Kansas City from the mountains and all the gardening I've done had been in containers, save for a few tomato plants in college. I need to learn everything. I've been reading and watching videos, but there's a lot to learn. I don't even know enough to know I don't know. I just learned about nitrogen, potash, potassium and magnesium's effects today. I should really research plant varieties, too. I'll bet I can't grow a collard green tree because it freezes here.
It's cutting or live plant only, does not grow true from seed. Annie's sells live plants, cuttings on ebay. You might want to start with some standard collard varieties, seeds are easy to find.
fonseca habana I grew standard kale for the first time this year. I'd never tried it before I grew it. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I had to grow more. Lettuce is so inferior, now. If that really tastes like kale, I'll definitely give growing it a shot. I'll probably want several clones. I'll have to figure something out.

John Kholer, what is your opinion on growing weeping willow cuttings in a residential area?
Weeping Willows are very invasive. Stay away from your structures and septic tank.
When we move there is no room for error. I can't afford to experiment and possibly lose out on valuable food.

Can only keep apple, or pear trees outdoors year-round here.
Often, I find people discarding old refrigerators, freezers, small boats, hot tubs, etc., and after drilling some holes, I fill with growing medium, and plant my gardens. Too lazy to "build" boxes. lol

What are you looking for? The taste/flavour, growing conditions, amount of work etc....
What made you want the onion plant?
Your question is hard to answer unless you say why you want the onion plant.
Chives maybe?
Are you also allergic to the green onions stalks or chives or leeks? Onions also irritate me, especially raw. Raw onions make me cough and have trouble breathing. I do not have that problem with cooked onions, though my stomach does not like those. I have no problems with cooked onion greens and chives greens. Other easy things to grow, at least in the high desert, is Amaranth and Water Spinach. They do need regular water. In pots, I water daily or every other day. oh yeah, also chard.
Did yo ask yourself the question why the concrete block wall certainly older than the concrete block raised bed is holding? He needs to cap the raised bed wall for it to last. Should last way longer than any wood.
We have a lot of problems with fruit trees. They burn in the sun. We lost 2 avocado trees at 3 years old, even though we watered them everyday. Tomatoes! We have tons of blossoms but hardly any tomatoes. OK... so leaf growth!! What product?
I hear you keep saying that the desert is the hardest place to grow food. I'm scratching my head because down here in SW Florida I'm jealous of your low humidity. Purple tree collards are really hard to keep going here. They do great until the heat and humidity of summer. Then come the attacks from the bugs. I keep them going only by taking all the cuttings I can and nursing them along in pots in the shade. I lose most of those too but a few will survive until the heat breaks. Great videos but stop whining about that wonderful dry heat!

That tree collard size is not practically useful. It's too tall for ease of harvest and unless you're growing it for ornamental reasons, there's no point to have it take up space in the food garden. From my perspective, I don't find tree collard to be of any ornamental value other than its nutritional value. So I'd grow it within reach for easy leaf harvest.

John says he is the NUMBER 1 juicer/ blenders in the ENTIRE UNITES STATES, and he can match any price. How many people in the US are buying juicers, per month ?1000 ? 5'000 ? 10'000 ?
When we see these juicers can cost $300,$ 600, even + $1'500, and retailers have at least 50-60% off (i helped a friend who was in the business. .. don't be shocked, but did you know a retailer can have up to 70, or even 80-85% off, even on brands like bosch....? Yeah, margins can be that huge...), that makes HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS or even THOUSANDS T I M E S 200 bucks on this juicer, 400 bucks on that blender, 700 bucks on that juicer...
That makes DOZENS AND DOZENS THOUSANDS DOLLARS per MONTH, NET :)
THAT'S why ALL the people i know who watch these videos keep wondering "DOES he really need those extra 5 or 10 dollars per tshirt, to 'support' him ? "
ALL MY juicer friends also tell me "wow, he even charges money for phone calls... when he could take 1 hour per week, and do kind of QA live stream on youtube..he wouldn't become poor because of that"...even if we all know times is precious, and he can't give advices for free...
I'm going to shock a few, but my wife once told me "wow, it looks like this guy is all about money and money and making more money... he must be so greedy, never shares anything, even his girlfriends, everything is separated, what is mine is mine, what is yours is yours, don't even think you'll ever get a dime, from my juicer business, you have to work hard, to pay HALF the bills, even if i'm making xx'xxx per month, don't count on that'....and the girlfriends just go away, they can't stand such greed.
Then my wife went on, and asked me, why is him like that ? Americans are super generous. Is Kohler swiss, austrian, german, israeli ?
Then i had to convince my wife that in the world, there are those who don't live just for the money, and will help whoever needs some help, as they already have more than enough, money or other things...
... and then, there is a second group of people, who already have more than 90% of the people in the world, but they always want more, more and even more. And those people hate spending 1 dollar, unless they are doubling or tripling it.
And she replied 'yes, but he has already made 2 thousand videos, for free'!
And our son asked her 'would he make all those videos, if he wasn't selling his juicers, just for the pleasure of 'educating people on how to eat the best food with the best nutrients ?'
That's the 1 million dollar question :)

My Simple reason that drives me to continue to produce content to make a difference in the world, is because I almost lost my life when I was younger. I was given a second chance at life. I believe one of reasons I was given a second chance is to share what I have learned with others. "This drives me to share my truths with the world. Another part of me wants to contribute my part to make the world a better place by "Living in Service to others". "Be the change you wish to see in this world". Furthermore, I believe conventional society is not teaching (and teaching inaccurate) information to people. My youtube channels are here to help others.
If I were about the money, I would make my videos ALOT different. You will know if I am "ever about the money" when my video lengths are maybe 10-15 minutes long. That would please the youtube algorithm better than my 45 - 90 minute long vidoes that most people BAIL on after 15 minutes.
Why do I charge for consults? I simply value my time. Time is the most precious thing each one of us owns. I would love to answer FREE questions all day long, but I have quite a busy life, continually gardening, traveling, preparing food, running my business, etc.
Furthermore all my fiverr consults NEVER get "Cashed out" into my pocket. It all goes BACK into the fiveerr community to get my videos transcribed for the hearing impaired.
Furthermore, the tee shirt money goes to help get my videos edited, and supports a Woman Owned US based business. I don't see a cent.
Furthermore, all my EBOOK sales, I dont see a penny at present time, it goes 100% to support my ex-girlfriend at this time.
I would request that unless you know me and what im actually about to refrain from posting inaccurate comments about me. Furthermore, I would request you start posting 4 videos a week to help change the world.
