    Being a Jamaican, Justin Gatlin was never a favorite of mine. Nothing personal…just business. I’ve gotta admit that over time he is growing on me. He is insightful, measured and thoughtful. He brings a realness and clarity to what happens behind the scenes that regular folks never get to see or experience. His passion for the sport seems undiminished. Fun facts about Letsile’s names and their meanings.
    Letsile means “it has arrived/arrival” usually for something that starts with an L. I am not sure what the person who named him was referencing but it makes sense to me that maybe it was either sun(sunshine), luck, light or the day he was born, and sun and day in Setswana directly translate to Letsatsi. Light is lesedi, and luck is lesego. So to say the sun (sunlight/sunrise) or day has come, you would say Letsatsi le tsile. And for light - lesedi le tsile, luck lesego le tsile.
    Tebogo means thanks/thankful.
    His full name literally means arrival of thanks.
    Either way as a nation, we Batswana are thankful for the day he was born, 8/8/24- the day he medaled, the light and luck he bring to the country.
    Tebogo day has a nice ring to it. It would be the day our country celebrates his victory, thanks him and be thankful for all we have achieved.
    His win truly meant a lot. I have always sang our national anthem at events. But the meaning behind it really hit home after his win. I can’t remember being so emotional and proud singing it as I watched him on that podium.

    I can't believe that now the standard argument is "Noah wasn't going to win". Consider that:
    1. Noah ran the fastest Olympic trial 200m in his career in 2024, and 2. his Olympic trial times correlate with how much he improved in the respective year final (Olympic or World Championship).
    Tebogo might have still won, sure: but it is inevitable that the peaking schedule designed by Lyle's coach was aiming for 19.30 or lower in the 200m final - even accounting for the win in the 100m. It's not like sponsors dumped millions on Lyles expecting his potential was to run another ~19.5 in the Olympic final.

Letsile didn’t have a mental edge on him in a big spot. Now the narrative is, that Noah couldn’t have won regardless. Just pour in those brothas from the Caribbean, they’ll be subscribing soon.

    ref: "Noah Lyles wasn't going to win the 200M" - I enjoy your show, but you are absolutely wrong and you should know better. Noah ran 19.31 off of a 100m PR 9.95; what makes you think healthy he was incapable of running better than 19.46 with a 9.79 PR. Noah won the gold medal in the 100m and is a better 200m sprinter. Noah goal in the Olympics was to break the WR in 200m, winning was a for gone conclusion. I understand the Tebogo lovefest, but to count out an athlete who has only lost one 200m in 4 years makes no sense.

    • @michaelmurray6351
      @michaelmurray6351 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume this means you don't believe Noah was sick and physically compromised. Two Facts: (1.) Noah absolutely did test positive for COID; there is no way to fake that. (2.) Talk to any athlete who has had COVID or even the flu and they will tell you that there is at least 1 day where you don't want to get out of bed, another 2 days where you feel weak and nearly a week before you are 100%. Within that week, there is absolutely no way you are going to race world class athletes and perform at your best. I have watched Noah since grade school and he has never lost as badly as he did in the Olympic 200m final. Letsile Tebogo is an incredible athlete and no one can say Noah would have won the Olympic 200m had Noah been at 100%, but without a doubt it would have been a close race.

    This was one of two important races in the Paris Olys, that I predicted correctly. (1) After watching Hocker in the US trials, I was sanguine he would take the 1500 m in Paris. (2) In the 200 m, I had the three medalists in the right order. Tebogo was a reasoned choice for gold, Bednarek a fond hope for the silver. I have followed track seriously since 1960, and do not recall a really top level sprinter who pranced and posed as much as Lyles. Starting with Hary and Berutti up to the stars of today, including my two all-time 100 m greats, Bolt and Hayes. When today's crop of sprinters remotely approach 9.58 sec. for 100 m, the time will perhaps be ripe for "boasting".

Call it selfish of me, but regardless of your personal feelings of Lyles, i think we could all hope that any of these athletes are going to be at their best at the biggest stage and i don't think we got to see that with Lyles in the 200.
