To complain about the looks is to misunderstand the purpose of this laptop. The complaint I hear most is, why so much plastic for such an expensive computer. Inevitably, it gets compared to the MacBook Pro and it's durable aluminum build. I guarantee you the MacBook Pro will fail a durability test long before the Thinkpad. I'll take durability and performance over aesthetics every day and twice on Sunday!

Lenovo didn't make the decision to switch the position of FN and CTRL keys. That has been the case since the IBM days for all ThinkPad keyboards

Which, at least in my T430 can be switched back to "normal function by position" from the bios/setup. Not sure in this one. I would assume they would include this feature, since is incredibly odd for mostly everyone.
people complain about the plastic on thinkpad laptops but honestly I've had a p51s for like 4 years now. The plastic stands up way better than any other laptop I've ever seen, it doesn't warp, bend, and it wears away gracefully. I'm a firm believer at this point that plastic (used right) is a better material than most stamped metal or aluminum.
I don't know why reviewers are obsessed with touchscreens like anyone use them anyway! if it was the MacBook Pro no one will mention it's a drawback that it doesn't' have a touchscreen.
Trackpoints are as synonymous with Thinkpads. Personally, I prefer the approach to keep the touch buttons by the keyboard and integrated buttons on the pad so it can be larger.

The best laptop ever! It still has the silly fingerprint reader but that can be disabled and ignored. The dock is a must for people who want to evaluate images on 27" monitors, which is the bare minimum when working at 4K.

Nasaq Licos and people like you are why the Windows laptop market was loosing quite a few people to Mac, especially in universities. What is wrong with a lightweight and well built laptop that looks good? It's not that there will be no workstations anymore because of that … however design is very important especially in the consumer market and Windows was lacking that for a long time. Only in the recent three years this has changed imo.
Chosen Architect sure. But where is the rule written that says "only because it is pro it has to look like crap"? Sure, design isn't the first thing to consider here, but they surely could have done a better job and it surely would not have hurt.
Qwertworks by reading you and Rahadian's comments it's quiet obvious you don't have the slightest clue of what you're speaking of and can be considered as blasphemy by a lot of people (comedicly & seriously saying). Believe it or not but people do like the looks (& so do I, also doesn't mean I don't like the looks of newer laptops). The design & materials play a strong role here, that's why it hasn't change much for years, it's like asking Porsche to make their car more stream line like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. You two really need to do your homework on thinkpads. As far as the Windows laptop market is concerned, it pretty good because there's numerous other laptops (& pc tablets) that you could get especially after Win8/10 came out new chips/ memories etc.

Power users wouldn't bother to trade cosmetic beauty over upgradeability and flexibility. For common people, there are Dell XPS 13/15 and ThinkPad X1 Carbon and a bunch of other choices. The X1 might not be flashy but it will withstand far greater abuse than the formers and other competitors. ThinkPads are meant to be beautiful, so...
Qwertworks "consumer market" not pro market
This looks so ugly lol
how is it ugly?
its so blocky and has plastic for such a expensive computer
Saran Wrap that's classic thinkpad design that makes a so durable, and what's makes it stands out among the crowd. Clearly you didn't use a thinkpad before
It can still be metal and it is so thick compares to other laptops with similar specs
Saran Wrap no. We don't need another MacBook clone. There's Dell xps 15 for that.
