I LOVE Pinheiros. That is where I base myself when in São Paulo. I try to stay as close as possible to the Oscar Freire Metro station. Great central location with tons of good stores. boutiques, bars and restaurants. It's also a very dog-friendly barra.

São Paulo city is the capital of São Paulo state, the city has 12 million people and the state has 45 million people. Just a little comparison, NY has 11.000 skyscrapers while São Paulo has 35.000 skyscrapers. A very big city indeed!

All of that grandiose in numbers, and it won't make any better than NYC. Nowere by any standard.
For starters, most of Sao Paulo's buildings, by and large, have a bland and uninspiring architecture made up of concrete buildings and or glass facades, or your typical stucco tile clad dull blocks of residential buildings on the more affluent neighborhoods.
You have copycat faux neo architecture for what you would refer as the wealthy class dwellings. For all the money spent on a condo unit, you would expect a lot more in terms of visual appeal and durability, which is often negated for the sake of conspicuous profiteering by short cuts by your garden variety Real Estate Developer in Sao Paulo.
The few scant good pieces of building architecture that have not been razed, grafitted, or buildozed buildings, your Art Deco, Pre War Classics that are often a sore shape of upkeep. That's Downtown, Se, Republica, Santa Ifigenia, Campos Eliseos, Vila Buarque, Bela Vista, some in Mooca, some in Ipiranga.
Nowadays, it's a building named a faux foreign and meaningless nameplate, and loads of pre-fab garbage.
So much for your Green and Yellow Chest puffing and homer pride.
Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Mexico City have , by far, a lot more samples of worthy architecture to be seen and inhabited than you can ever fathom to exist in Sao Paulo.
Public Parks alone, Ibirapuera is a joke. All cut by corridors, with little to no accessibility by pedestrians. Central Park, Park Slope, Jamaica Plain's Emeral Necklace, are by measure, far better than Ibirapuera.
And as for the size of population and number of building, bla,bla,bla....
      Such Big Deal
Lagos Nigeria, Mumbay India, Kinshasa DRC, any Second Tier in China, and a spatter of others have populations that outdo Sao Paulo.

@@TravelTherapy022 easier is subjective. They are more friendlier and willing to talk but the amount of Portuguese you speak can determine how much more successful you are with the women. They don’t speak Spanish although they do understand it somewhat since there are similarities but they prefer to differentiate themselves from Spanish.

Pinheiros is overrated and bland. Your first take is not even Pinheiros, by Faria Lima. You are on Jardim Paulistano, technically.
Pinheiros only covers a small stretch of Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima. That place goes shut after business hours. Just an enclave for the uber rich with a bunch of custodian bankers and attorneys.
You will find a lot more interesting places by Downtown. I would hop on the yellow line and head out to the old Garment District by Bom Retiro, bound to Luz Rail Station. Out there you have, in a stone throw distance, two museums, a lush public garden, and bargain galore apparel stores stretching a couple miles over three to four streets.
Just don't get off on the wrong side of the rail station. Avoid Maua Street, as it is as seedy as one can get. Follow the Jose Paulino Street side. At the far right, beynd the Pinacoteca de Artes, is the Bride District. Where Tuxedos and Gowns are sold. At the left, while facing the Luz Public Gardens, there is the Garment District. A Gateway for Italians, Jews, Arabs, Greeks, and as of late, Koreans, Chinese, and a few Bolivians.
If you venture beyond the Garment District, past left, you are in what is left of the Crack Addict District, A.K.A. Crackolandia. Past that, you will have another Rail Station, which houses the City's newly Symphony Hall. That is right, built within a rail station.
The Luz Station, by the way, was built under concession by the British.
Now back to heading into the Bridal's District ( That is Rua Sao Caetano ), if you veer off to the right, by the pedestrian bridge, across the main corridor, you will find a couple things worth seeing. First as housing built for the railroad engineers, dating back over a century. Climbing Rua Florencio de Abreu, just about every Pre-War Building you can gaze is dotting the street. That is where it used to be a trading strip for hand tools, tool machinery, shop supplies and so on. The Chinese are slowly overtaking it.
At the end of Rua Florencio de Abreu, you are at the Sao Bento's Church, where Franciscan Monks still lead a frugal life and the word is they still bake divine loafes.
Crossing past the Monastery, you are on the Viaducto to Cha which probably got sold to more unsuspecting dupes than the Brooklyn Bridge. At the far end of the Bridge, you are on Santa Ifigenia District. Bypassing the Santa Ifigenia Church to its namesake street, you are in the Consumer Electronic's District, just as you would be in Fry'es or Best Buy. Only difference is that the street is litered with people and hawkers, gawking goods to be pushed to buyers. It is a contact sport, nonetheless.
There are a couple decent BBQ places there,
Around there, if you can survive the abbrasiveness and the occasional mugging ( keep your wallet to your chest ) you are in motocycle district ( Rua dos Gusmoes ).
By Avenida Sao Joao x Avenida Ipiranga, there is the Bar da Brahma, a cafe with live entertainment booked indoors and side walk seating. That'\s happy hour.
Fridays evenings the nearby Republica is the place to be, where lowly paid telemarketer vent off with friends over a few beers. Just wander around Rua Sete de Abril, and Conselheiro Crispiniano and Avenida Sao Luiz ( A Foodie Meca ) and you shall find them. Praca Dom Jose Gaspar is where Sampa is played Friday evenings.
Don't forget to flert with the Bar da Onca, by the Copan Building, and the Casa do Porco, for some pork goodness decadence, by Rua Araujo, right off Republica's Main Public Gardens.
