Frieren tells better story than Marvel and DC
In cinema, yes, but comic, sometimes yes sometimes no.
I'm not a comic book person myself, but I have friends who read comic books and manga and always find stories that are better than the other side.

I am seeing a lot of discussion now that the series is almost done but I haven't seen anyone mention. The modern magic shield was designed to protect against magic at a higher degree but in the clone fight both frieren break said barrier easily. This tells me that Frieren has dozens of ways to fight modern magic and is forcing herself to use zoltrack and barriers despite her ability to just overpower the barriers. And her Trump card we cannot discuss we have little to no info about what it actually is. She has an entire deck of Trump cards by modern magic terms and she isn't using them but she did reveal them to Fern now.
There are actually several reasons for both frieren and serie why they only use basic spells.(which, of course, is going to be one of my future videos)
The fact that there is nothing to challenge them makes everything for them boring, that's why in order to make it a little bit interesting, they don't go all out.
They set some rules and limits to their power. To prove this, let's go back to the time when sein was with the group. They had to destroy the monster that puts everyone in a deep sleep, frieren knew what kind of monster it was she waited for sein to find it to make it interesting (there are more details, but my main point is she knew how to defeat the monster)
I think its how she was taught by her master. Flamme trained Frieren during a time of war against demons so all her techniques are specifically for dealing with demons from hiding her mana to using precise attacks that effectively one-shot her enemies. Remember that scene where Frieren killed the demon inside the cell? It didn't even look like she was using magic he just outright sliced his arms off and blew his head up without even summoning her staff.
There is also a demon later in the story who uses compressed mana for her shield and actual lethal attacks. Frieren might be using a similar principle. Pure mana control to form walls, blades, and other simple mana constructs
