Easy upgrade to Action 2 :)
The overheating is actually a feature- used to warm up a bagel or your fries or coffee. Set that mug right on top. No extra charge for that.

Such an amazing intro! I always appreciate when a new piece of tech comes out! At first we just have the Action 2 alone, now they're adding a protective case on it and just like that we can do more stuff with the Action 2!
Thanks Faruk. Great review as always. My big disappointment was that you could only get horizon leveling in 1080p. For me that means I will stick with my GoPro Hero 10, as I find that feature to be really invaluable.
Yep was going to get one till I realised this. Useless as a action camera without that feature in this day and age imo
@@simpedros4766 why ? what the hype for horizontal leveling, in a tripod you dont need it, in a fpv drone you dont need it , just in snowboarding and things like that is needed

Hmm It’s nice, but somehow I wish they had kept the Osmo Action format and just updated the sensor etc.
Ok. Now I’ve seen a few more reviews , the overall impression I have is ….it overheats in under 8 mins. I’ll stick with the Osmo action 1.

Was thinking the same thing. Even GoPros don't ever seem to be that smooth, with the exception of the Hero 10 maybe
DJI ACTION 2 color science and IQ of this tiny thing is quite impressive especially for this tiny sensor. - it looks much better than its predecesor. to be honest. Colors looks very accurate and vivid with lot's of Dynamic range. really well balanced punchy image. I love it.

do you have problem with overheating???
I ordered this, then saw the reviews mentioning overhearing and cancelled my order. I need to wait until the public gets a hold (November 24 was the date DJI mentioned to receive when I order ) and see how big of an issue this overheating is or is not.
I really like the concept. Magnet mounts are the future. It would’ve been nice if they made it so you can mount it on its side like you said. I might use it as a forward facing camera on my front bumper while driving off-road using my iPhone on the dash (magnet mounted) as the monitor.
If there is one tech content creator out there deserving at least 1 mio subs, it is Faruk. Every video is like *chefskiss*
Original Osmo Action is my favourite action cam. This looks awesome.
Owner of the original Osmo Action and feeling like... the new model falls kind of short compared to the GoPro 10 can do... I believe I am switching. Hoping the new Mavic doesn't disappoint on the 5th!

Sensor size same as Pocket 2, so I think the low light perform little bit same as Pocket 2. I own Pocket 2 and the low light quality is amazing.
I think this camera is pretty awesome. You can get very creative with your shots thanks to that magnetism.
Dear iPhonedo, as usual, thanks for the FANTASTIC video…. I was waiting for this product for AGES because I have and love the DJI Pocket 2 with the WIRELESS MIC. The Wireless mic is the BEST feature of that [for me]. I was SUPER SAD that they did not have that as a standard accessory for this. Do you know if the Pocket 2 mic can be paired with the ACTION 2? Also, did DJI provide you with the [nice but expensive] forthcoming DJI Mic? If so, how does it work as an accessory for Action 2? I have [and LOVE] the Rode Wireless Go 2… and love the stereo part 2.. BUT, I don’t like connecting all the pieces etc. For me, WIRELESS MICS are the MOST IMPORTANT things… Do you have info or experience with their NEW DJI MIC and/or info on if the Pocket 2 Wireless Bluetooth mic can work with the new Action? What is the use case of 120fps/4K if you can only shoot 5 Minutes?
What about 4K/60 FPS? How long can you shoot with that setting???

So, if you go surfing you will need the underwater case attached to a GoPro mount, right? I can't believe that magnet survives a normal surf or bodyboarding session.
Nice video! Potentially interested. The battery situation is weird. I'm going to assume the upcoming battery module can't be used with the camera and screen module at the same time? With the larger sensor I'm wondering about how close you can get and have it look acceptably in focus. Difficult to tell even with some example footage. The Insta360 1" sensor camera has that problem.
What is a FOV in 4K 60fps with RS 2.0 on ?
How does this compare to the new GoPro? I'm going to New York for Christmas and taking a doors off helicopter flight, was going to take a DSLR but I want to enjoy it and record video instead of being just absorbed taking photo and before I know it the flight will be over. The magnetic clip is nice too.
Let's see if VVC (H.266) can address the heat - Can one mount three accessories i.e. the screen & battery together with the Action 2?

My only concern is What happens when the battery starts to degrade and you can’t replace it, other than that I really like the look of it.

Agreed on the mounting orientation, there has to be a horizontal option at some point.
Very disappointed it doesn't have a USB-C port on the main module, that would have made a great replacement for the Session 5 on my bike, oh and a SD slot too. And of course they could have sold it standalone for a lot cheaper, much more sales !
If you are into action cameras, it's impossible not to like this one.

Great video as always. Does the main camera recharge from the 2nd unit while switched off? I'd like to use the small camera on my bike but recharge it while at the cafe.

I think dji made a wireless mic (includes 2 mics and 1 audio receiver) just like Rode go 2 mics.

Any USB-C microphone will work. I tried an inexpensive saramonic mic and it works just fine.
so when the battery is dead on the main camera part then you cannot replace it? Is it a built in battery like most smartphones nowadays? What happens after 2 years when it's capacity drops significantly?
So not great for water sports unless there's a cage with a solid GoPro mount for the single camera section? No way that magnetic GoPro mount holds in the water.
The magnetic will engage a physical latch that is impossible to detach.
@@youngien I saw the two side latches on another video review but, I would still use a safety lanyard. You get pretty pounded by big waves. I even use a lanyard on my GoPro.
@iphonedo I was curious if you have tested the OA2 with its new magnetic case while connected to the magnetic Lanyard? I was curious if you have both the OA2 + the power or 2nd screen module connected and both encased in the magnetic shell if the lanyard is strong enough to hold it in place while maybe just walking around or walking up stairs? I bought the self facing camera bundle. Should get it in a few days. I would like to see DJI offer a separate power module separately assuming I'd need to have additional power and storage on a remote shoot.
The additional microphones on the self-facing camera are odd - in your shots I could hear people walking, lots of treble. I don't know how much control we have over their function? I may cover the mics up to attenuate them. Maybe in a case the quad-mic is not as overbearing? I could see in special situations where it would be cool, but ambient sound should always be attenuated vs. a primary microphone. They are not bad, just not all that useful if they are all equally balanced. I'll have to get a separate mic I guess.
Lens protection. I guess I'll have to be very careful at first.
I'll be interested to see how the 1080p footage looks otherwise I'll be sticking to lower frame rate 4k. And how the 'quick edit' mode and live mode works.

When you say “overheat”, did it just get hot, or did it actually stop recording?
The past few generations of GoPro have had issues where, even in favorable conditions (such as indoors with AC & a fan) they overheat and stop recording after 10-20 minutes (depending on model & settings).
The original Osmo Action, on the other hand, would continue to record, even if the camera overheated to the extent that it shut off the screens to protect them & minimize battery drain.
By overheat he means shuts down within 5 minutes at 4k120.
Hi can you do 16:9 portrait mode and put it on top of your Sony camera to record Instagram reels. Basically turning off horizon steady does it turn to the longer side ?
What if I am going to for a long journey and need a lot of battery and memory? Buy lots of these expensive additional battery adds?
I love my Osmo Action and have been looking forward to the OA2, but not sure how I feel about the new design choices on it. I get that they wanted to go smaller to maybe compete with the Insta 360 2 action camera, especially since they include a magnetic necklace in the box, but I do not like that to achieve this smaller re-design they had to move the battery and microSD card to another module which when combined is basically the same size and form factor as the original OA which then defeats the purpose of having a smaller action camera. In an unrelated note, will you be putting out a comparison video on how this new OA2 compares to the GoPro 10?
for some shots it can be beneficial, it's nice having the situational option, at least for me. plus, this is a big one, the fact that it mounts and the shot is perfectly centered. (WHY is every other action camera lens offset?) (lol i'm ocd)
i actually just swapped my gopro 10 out for the action 2 and i am SUPER satisfied. better in just about every way, and this mounting system is FAR superior.

For me, the gopro session was a really good mini action camera for some time (FPV). However, its limitations meant that I never saw it as a main action camera.
Example
no replaceable battery (With a short battery time)
no way to replace the lens
No front screen (If you did not buy an accessory)
So for me, osmo action 2 feels like a newer session based on its features and quality but with similar drawbacks.
Would you go with Action 2 or GoPro Hero 10?
