The energy during the whole movie is so good! It really feels like you're actually watching a MUSICAL and not some sort of movie with songs. Great adaptation.
This is the first musical that blew my mind in a long time. When they started flashing the room letters with the song I was the most astounded at how creative it was. When I saw a clip of revolting children I thought it was great, and then after watching the movie it completely changed how I viewed the definition of revolting in that case. Truly amazing.
Here's a cool musical thing I noticed: the letters are always on the downbeat of the 4/4 measure. For those who don't know music, you can start with "A" and count to 4 repeatedly at a steady beat (while the kids are singing), and the letter always comes at the same time as 1.
I find it clever that they sing the chorus first and THEN show how the alphabet comes in. And I love that the 'letters' are based on the 'sounds' not the actual letters. _'living "L" '_ genuinely made me smile it was funny.
What I just now realized is that they followed true. The prefects brought them to class, while giving them all the warning they needed to hear, but had to book it their own classes out of fear.
This is what songwriting should be. Makes me want to watch it over and over again to marvel at the creativity. I remember watching this live in Providence and not realizing until the last 30 seconds what was happening and waiting so long to finally see it again!
I kinda feel sorry for the Prefects, they're probably so cold and aggressive towards Matilda and Lavender because they've dealt with Trunchbull for about 6-7 years, and they've hardened from the experience as a result and they're probably afraid to show too much emotion within her presence.
This is why I was specifically looking for as many of them as I could in Revolting Children. They're barely there, but there, singing their hearts out. Probably such a freeing moment for them.
@@twist_ending7545 yeah but she already seemed like a rebel. The red hat, buttons and mix matched socks. Plus at the end of the song she was the only one not rushing to class.
I never watched matilda the musical stage, so I looked for this scene cus I was curious how the alphabet was originally used on the song. Its very creative and I'm so happy they found a way that worked so well on movie form.
Typically, productions of this use blocks (big enough to sit on, not tiny toy blocks) with letters painted/written on each side and turn the pertinent block towards the audience when that letter is called
I first saw an amateur production of this musical. The whole thing with the blocks came across as pretty cheesy to me, partly because the lyrics were hard to understand. It works much better in the movie with better enunciation and more subtle placement of the letters.
The version I saw featured large metal fence prop which was used throughout the song. The kids would hold up letters, then puncture them backward onto the fence so they stuck. At the end, they turned the fence around and it said "physical education "
This song was my favourite to watch on stage, the choreography for this number is absolutely amazing ! I'm so glad they did it justice in the movie, because it's not an easy song to translate from stage to screen (let's be honest, they did the stage show justice with this movie, it's amazing !!)
I just love how well written the script and the lyrics is in this. I just couldnt believe they really pulled the lyrics while having the letters called alphabetically just so well! The work put into this mustve been hard
“You don’t know the alphabet until we learn you the alphabet.” is so smart given how in the first segment you dont even notice theyve spelled out the entire alphabet until we learned the lyrics.

at 1:58 i love that she says they're there to take them to class then by the end of their song completely fail their mission and just run off leaving them in a random hallway not knowing where to go
As someone who was Bruce Bogtrotter in my community theater's production, this was defenitly one of my favorite songs, if not my favorite song, in the soundtrack. Thank god it got that treatment in the movie
I love how all of the letters of the alphabet are recited in the song and on the doors, and then when Lavender asks "why" (why) and then they say "just you wait for physed" (Z) It's extremely creative.
This is the MOST AMAZING, ENTERTAINING version of Matilda! It brought me back the memories from watching the actual musical, hope Netflix does this with WICKED too! :)

ohh this movie gave me chills in so many different scenes, particularly this one and ‘my house’. the vocal arrangement and the choreography is brilliant throughout the movie, as is the set and how it interacts with the story. it’s easy for a set to become a static location, just a scene where something happens. but it truly feels as if it is a part of what’s going on throughout the movie; the locations are an integral part of the story and it really shows.
The choreography, lyrics, music and absolute everything was so well done! Especially including the alphabet while they were walking to their class Edit 1:omg so much like ty
Most of the songs have Tim Minchin written all over them. This one feels the most like him though. It reminds me of Cont(ext) and Prejudice with how he presents the song and the listener thinks they know what’s going on, then the second half starts and he pulls the rug out from under you.
Ok, that song was amazing. Recognized some of the words when they showed the letters so had to go back and watch it again. Singing was great but the writing was amazing, already said it but it's the only word that describes it.
This song is absolutely brilliant Tim Minchin is one talented individual. I love how he incorporated the alphabet it's brilliant. And one of my favorite characters is the main prefect girl I love her attitude.
I love how the electric guitar is always present in the second half of the song, even if completely overshadowed by the other instruments and the kids' singing.

I did not expect the, "Phys Ed. (Phy-Z)" because I'm American and that's not how we pronounce it, but once I realized it, I liked it.
Whoever wrote those lyrics is a fricken genius !!! I couldn't believe how well every letter fits in the situation.
@@oscarf5433 Tim Minchin. He's a huge star in Australia, and has a TH-cam channel with lots of amazing songs.
Here's a cool musical thing I noticed: the letters are always on the downbeat of the 4/4 measure.
For those who don't know music, you can start with "A" and count to 4 repeatedly at a steady beat (while the kids are singing), and the letter always comes at the same time as 1.
Every child actor in this movie is just phenomenal. They are all so talented.
I find it clever that they sing the chorus first and THEN show how the alphabet comes in. And I love that the 'letters' are based on the 'sounds' not the actual letters. _'living "L" '_ genuinely made me smile it was funny.
I really liked "ARsked a thousand questions" it makes me chuckle
it's actually "living H_L"
@@leval_413no... it's "living 'ell"
@@leval_413 they say "living 'ell" to mean hell is spoken with a british accent and is used for the L in the alphabet
That’s why it confused me at first: Z is pronounced Zed in the UK, Phys-Zed.
I will never stop being so impressed with these kids. True professionals
Honestly loved the staging of this number.
Same here it was so well done
Number??????
What I just now realized is that they followed true. The prefects brought them to class, while giving them all the warning they needed to hear, but had to book it their own classes out of fear.
This was my favorite song from the movie! I immediately added it to my Spotify playlist. I love how the letters were incorporated into the song!
14 min!?
The girl wearing the red beret was in the revolting children video
@@snowCandle23 I don’t think she was a prefect tho
@@hanaomer4419 she certainly seems older though
@@twist_ending7545 yeah but she already seemed like a rebel. The red hat, buttons and mix matched socks. Plus at the end of the song she was the only one not rushing to class.
2:03 the “ none of you are special “ sign got me
Same
I noticed now❤️
I never watched matilda the musical stage, so I looked for this scene cus I was curious how the alphabet was originally used on the song.
Its very creative and I'm so happy they found a way that worked so well on movie form.
Originally, this song is done at the gate of Crunchem Hall, and the big "kids" push alphabet blocks through it the second time around.
@@rfresa I found one where they used spot lights to highlight the letters. Very well done but I think it's the original production play.
These kids are AMAZING!!! The precision is crazy, I was not expecting this musical to be this good! Good job
This song was my favourite to watch on stage, the choreography for this number is absolutely amazing ! I'm so glad they did it justice in the movie, because it's not an easy song to translate from stage to screen (let's be honest, they did the stage show justice with this movie, it's amazing !!)
They totally did it justice. I found it mesmerizingly good.
God the kids are so well choreographed, the movement the walks the singing it’s all so mind boggling I truly give props to the choreographer teacher.
This entire movie was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! From top to bottom, EVERY single element and song was perfection🥹
I agree! I wanna watch again! It is so enjoyable!
Same I agree with 100%
IKR!?
Then you'll enjoy the musical itself much more. They also remove 3 songs in the movie which was very disappointing
@@uriblum1858 I wish the would’ve included the Mom’s song and the one Miss Honey sings about being scared, those were great
I love how the girl walks in the background at the end like she does not care XD love that detail
Love the level of detail on the red beret girl, she has a cast on her arm, implying she most probably got hurt by the Trunchbull in phys-ed before
Or the actress broke her arm and it just got incorporated into the costume. But yeah, that’s a good head cannon!
Omg that’s such a good theory
Oh yeah, I never noticed this
@@BJJ5770she's confirmed it was part of the costume
Red beret is meant to be a rebel, hence the cast, hat, and odd socks. Also she's late for class at the end of this song.

this song was perfect already, but the electric guitar in the background makes it even better! This is how you turn a play into a movie the right way
This is how tou adapt a musical into a film... so many movies are so scared to go all out and use the theatrical moves of musicals with the use of film editing cuz it would look weird... This is an example that it can be done amazingly

ohh this movie gave me chills in so many different scenes, particularly this one and ‘my house’. the vocal arrangement and the choreography is brilliant throughout the movie, as is the set and how it interacts with the story. it’s easy for a set to become a static location, just a scene where something happens. but it truly feels as if it is a part of what’s going on throughout the movie; the locations are an integral part of the story and it really shows.
The choreography, lyrics, music and absolute everything was so well done! Especially including the alphabet while they were walking to their class
Edit 1:omg so much like ty
All of those kids are so talented and the songs in this musical are so catchy and mesmerizing.
I love how most people are aware this was by Tim Minchin, wonderful job at this (:
The letters incorporated in the lyrics was so clever. I'm so impressed with this movie and this song was no exception
Honestly, as someone who is not really a fan of musicalmovies... this was done amazingly!!
Tim Minchin makes anything brilliant. The music for Groundhog Day the musical was written by him too.
This whole movie was brilliant and the choreography was out standing
This song has Tim written all over it, so good!

"Dad says I'll learn the Alphabet".
"The Alphabet? Well, you got to learn to listen, kids!"
