I revisited this today as a way to remember Caroll and all the good he did with his characters.... but it also sort of helps me grieve. If you guys don't know (or are reading this in the future), Caroll Spinney passed away yesterday. And I'll miss him.... but, like the cast said in the video.... "it happens.... just because."

I'd say Caroll Spinney performing Bruno on rollerskates while carrying Oscar is an impressive moment. He's done it in live appearances (such as the special Here Comes the Puppets) and in the special Big Bird's Birthday or Let Me Eat Cake.

I live for these Muppet related videos.
This was more moving than I expected it to be. What a great man. What a talent.
    Thanks Rachel!

And now he's joined Jim, Mr. Looper, and Mr. Rogers in the big nest/trashcan in the sky. So long Spinney. Have a rotten time!

I still cry when I watch the adults explain death to Big Bird.
Also, can you talk about Lego Ideas taking on The Muppets, Sesame Street & Labyrinth & vote for them! Old School Sesame Street Lego is almost a thing!

Oh how I WANT the Sesame Street LEGO set!!!! I would at least buy two so I could have one in the box and have one out of the box to build and show in my collection.

I did not expect to cry this much! I'd never heard of Caroll Spinney until his retirement was announced. The last time I cared about Sesame Street I was too young to care about the puppeteers... and yet watching these snippets of his life was very touching. Thank you, Rachel

Excellent list, Rachael! Those were all great moments. Caroll Spinney is a wonderful guy. My favorite Carol Spinney moment was when I met him in person. Getting to talk to him, and later Steve Whitmire, was like meeting rock stars.

Those Carroll Spinney moments are quintessential. I wouldn't add anything else to them or take anything away.
With the retirement of two other Muppet performers, Frank Oz and Fran Brill, and the unfortunate passings of Jim Henson, Richard Hunt and most recently, Jerry Nelson, I feel that Carroll Spinney's retirement marked the official end of the OG Muppeteer era. The only next-generation Muppeteer that I feel is keeping Sesame Street going is Martin P. Robinson (a/k/a Snuffy and Telly).

Btw Rachael, your videos are very well edited. I'm sure you get a lot of compliments regarding your screen presence, but you do a good job with the technical stuff, too. That moment of silence after the funeral clip is a good example.

This is a brilliant topic to cover! You did a great job with it - _all_ these moments are fantastic and it's definitely a good time to look back at his historic career. I forgot some of 'em until you mentioned 'em and then I'm just, like, "Yup. Can't argue with that one" (^-^)
The Jim Henson Memorial one was the one I was expecting to see at No.1, but the No.1 here really was a damn good moment.
For a future Muppet Monday, I think it would be neat if you could look at some _Ha! Henson Alternative_ stuff. I really only found about 'em a couple of years ago when a single special of "Puppet Up" aired on TBS for the Just for Laughs festival, and was fascinated to find out they have a whole slew or slate of things like that. I don't know how much of it was them wanting to do it and explore new ideas versus how much of it was just.... they needed to come up with stuff after Disney took the Muppets and Learning Company took Sesame Street, but I would like to know more about that whole thing if you have more info on it.

Sesame Street will never be the same without Carroll spinney. On Christmas Eve on sesame Street when Oscar tells big bird and Patty there is no Santa Claus and big bird gets upset and tells Kermit the frog and they asked all the kids how does Santa Claus comes down the chimney and the kids have crazy answers. But at the end of the show when big bird is relieved when Santa Claus has already been to deliver the Christmas presents then Oscar asked big bird how does the Easter Bunny hides all the Easter eggs. LOL, lol oh Rachel you should discuss about that. Your fan Kevin Mcdonald.

    • @michaelpalmieri7335
      @michaelpalmieri7335 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Oscar didn't actually tell Big Bird that there was no Santa Claus. He just asked him how chubby Santa is able to come down skinny chimneys, because if he couldn't, no one would get any presents on Christmas Day.

Personally, my favorite Carroll Spinney moment was getting to meet him on the set of Sesame Street during a taping when I was five . (My parents won a trip to the set during an auction as part of the PBS fund drive.) We got to hang out with him as Big Bird and take a picture with him on the Sesame Street steps. I also enjoyed watching them film some scenes with him as Oscar the Grouch in his trash can and his jalopy. However, if I had to choose a moment everyone knows about, I would choose either him dealing with Mr. Hooper's death or him singing as Big Bird at Jim Henson's memorial.
