    Please don't say one day just do it. I did. Has it been easy? No Do I have any regrets? No My only regret I waited till I'm in my forties to do it. I love my Island, love my people and will no longer neglect my gift that god gave to me by virtue of my birth, my gift from God called JAMAICA. Jamaicans rise up and lets claim our gift.

    @susuemikado , I share your sentiments. I too feel as though I should have stayed and contributed. Many Jamaican professionals migrate for better pay, safer environs etc....a sad situation. Sometimes I am consumed with guilt when I visit and see the devastation all around. However, I am trying to put in place a small foundation to aid some locals. I may not be able to reach all, but if I'm able to help some, that will appease my current heart ache regarding the condition.

    I have wondered as a Jamaican myself that all the hard work and creativity that I have put into living abroad may have robbed Jamaica of the contributions that I had to offer. Jamaicans are such gifted people and so many of us have enriched other countries with our talents. Perhaps if we had all stayed as a creative collective Jamaica would have been way better off.

      That is so true. I am a nurse and was talking to my friend who is also a nurse. We have to come up with a plan to contribute our talent and knowledge to our homeland. We are Working on it. Some people are afraid to go back and help now because of crime.we all know of friends and acquaintances who have been on the receiving end of vicious acts of violence. Family members killed or lucky to escape with their lives. Some people even want to invest but It is very challenging.

    @susuemikado, you've highlighted some important facts about island life. i.e. LASTING FRIENDSHIPS, RELAXATION etc, as you say "they're always rushing off to visit friends & packing for weekend at the beach"...It seems no matter what kind of work a person does on the island, they don't feel the level of stress that is felt in America, England, Canada etc. All my school mates that never left are also happy & thriving. We can still try to return with careful planning. If I could turn back time :)

    I would love to go back other than just to visit. But it all starts with the parents and education...... I grew up in jamaica till 15 years and most of the time my mother was not around, i lived with very abusive father, different family member and my sisters & brothers. we took care of each most of the time and if it was not for my mother wanting something for us other than us pushing carts she would not make it to america making a new life for all of us. but look at the kids now!!!

    @Caribbeanprincess1 The thing is my older siblings never migrated and are very happy, have nice homes, thriving children, and are doing well in their chosen careers. I call them and they are always rushing off to visit friends and packing to weekend at the beach....way better off than me :) God bless your efforts to help those Jamaicans less fortunate.

    @2300lisa, your concern resound in my heart, like an echo! I can feel where you're coming from regarding the youngsters in the ghettos of Kingston "it's now spreading to the rural areas too"....We need more campaign, presented in a manner that will reach the inner city kids. Persons other that political affiliates need to start shouldering some of that responsibility. The children feel hopeless and are forced to grow up VERY FAST.

    I agree with some of what she's saying, judging by her comment, she's very patriotic'
    I believe most of the problems we faced can be solved, if the Government enact
    Laws for better change, such as the state Confiscating the proceeds of crime from
    Convicted defendants with a forfeiture order, which would strip them of all assets
    gain unlawfully through their crime; take away their houses, their Cars, money in
    their bank accounts and all assets stash away in friends and relatives name; Leave
    them with only the shirts on their backs, then they finish serving their sentence,
    this must be done also for those in Authority who are found guilty of Corruption, take
    away all their ill-gotten gains, and if any are politicians, ban them from holding
    political office for life; Secondly the parliament must restore the death penalty for
    murder, and stop playing with these killers; if this was implemented, and carried out
    strenuously; Jamaica would be Cleansed from top to bottom in less than five years;
    Hit them where it really hurts, in their pockets, and deprive all premeditated killers of
    their own lives, deprive them of money and life, and see how Quick things change for
    the better; who would second that motion??

    @susuemikado,That's why when I talk to persons in Jamaica who want to give up their livelihood to run to America, thinking they are heading to paradise;I tell them the truth, then tell them it's all up to them. We can never turn back time & regret is not a good feeling. After awhile it's like you're caught between two worlds. Body in America, Mind in Jamaica...it's hard to uproot & just go back to Jamaica and fit in. It's doable, but challenging after too many years in America etc.I'm Hopeful:)

  • @SusanSingsSongs

    I too love Jamaica. In America, I do not know the neighbors, I do not want to know them. When I was there as a child, the neighbors know each other last names. I still remember the names to this day. Generally they care about each other. I pray for Jamaica and I believe it can come back again.

    @Caribbeanprincess1 I live in Ochi . I'm currently renting in Turtle Towers very secure, ho[ping to buy shortly. Rentals are very reasonable in Ochi (below rates found in Miami) but do not use the internet, go to the post office in town you can find some good listings with rates that are well below those posted on the internet.

    You know, I also have property in the East end of the island,but I'm not sure that's where I'd want to settle. It's too close to Kingston and the people there are adopting the brazen principles. I had contracted someone to start building back in 2005,then I stopped project :(

  • @Caribbeanprincess1
    @Caribbeanprincess1 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @kwacou ,so amazing and ironic...:) I spent a week in the Turtle Towers when I was a teenager. I loved it! everything was on-site. Then we drove out to Dunns River and all that. I have a cousin living in Ochi now, she worked at Jamaica Grand for quite some time, now she's branched off. I haven't spoken to her in awhile. I think I will follow your lead. I am going to send a message to your youtube inbox. I may need U to help me with a local search.

    @GimmeKitty I don't believe your Jamaican nor that you've been there. If your referring to downtown Kingston and certain areas on the periphery of Mobay, then I agree. If your speaking of all of Jamaica you have not a clue.

    @Caribbeanprincess1 3 yrs. The secret, for me, is to have more than one source of income as well marketing products with a Jamaica brand for the overseas market thereby allowing me to earn foreign exchange. I'm my own boss and loving it.

    @kwacou , thanks for sharing your strategy. It absolutely makes sense. Part of my plan is to us the internet as my portal to the world for services that I can provide to generate added income,while I work a few local contracts as well. I have a cross-functional background,which will be an asset. I don't trust the JA police for proper protection etc. Are you in the city or the country? U can send me a PM message if you don't want to post on the public forum
