Commander Rex doesn't sound right to me. I believe that Rex was only a Captain because he was a reference to Captain Fordo of the ARC troopers. I can see the similarities. 1: The 501st usually had the hardest missions as stated throughout the SWTCW series. Arc troopers had the hardest missions. 2: The Arc troopers had free will and a strong independence. This resided strongly in the 501st, especially in the Umbara Arc.
FoxSW iF if you guys look at military ranks, you are promoted from commander to captain, that's why Anakin calls rex his first in command, where as Ashoka is only Commander en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_rank
Well new news: Captain Rex actually was promoted in season 7 because Ahsoka left the order making the rank of CO free for him. So Rex took the rank of Commander only so he can take Ahsoka with him to battle as a consultant on Mandalor.
If he was commander Rex for the entire time instead of captain then we probably would thing captain was weird with Rex so I think he didn’t accept the position because he was pretty much the commander of the 501st already and if he had become the commander then he wouldn’t be on the frontlines as much.
Ima-Gun Di Rex really knew his brethren from an individual standpoint, all of his troopers respected him and had a personal connection with Rex. Being a commander would have forced Rex to command too many clones. He would not really get to know them individually.
Commanders normally commanded from the back of the battlefront or from command posts. Rex might have refused any promotion and stayed at Captain to fight on the front lines with his men.
You say that Anakin didn't wanted to have 2 commanders, Ahsoka and Rex, but Rex was in the 501st since the begining. Ahsoka arrived 1 or 2 months later...And also she left in the last episode of season 5, which left the 501st without a Commander in season 6 lol. And Rex was still a Captain, and you know what is the funniest part? When Rex was declared dead. Appo, who was Sergeant, skipped Lieutenant rank and The Captain Rank to become a Commander... I guess it's Anakin who was trolling him like he did on Geonosis or maybe the writters are just dumb... It doesn't make sense that some idiot like Fox is a Commander but Rex only a Captain...
It's so dumb to call Fox an idiot just because he shot Fives, Fox simply did not care about Fives' life he wasn't stupid. If Fives was allowed to live then the secret about Order 66 would have gotten out.
Its because anakin had a padawan therefore the legion already had a commander . Commander Tano. So where Rex would have been a commander he got the next highest rank "Captain". Clones were very obedient troopers amd even most of the diverse troopers followed the basic military structures including the ranking system. I doubt Rex would (no matter how great and different Rex's Personality was) if he was given the title of Commander, he would have taken it. Not only for that fact, but due to the fact there would be an empty position available for another trooper that needed to be filled.
Royce Blackwater clearly he got a demotion. He was always known as captain rex in the animated series. This appears to be a continuity error to me rather than a canonical issue.
CommanderCodyHD yeah rex clearly got a demotion. However seeing as how sgt appo's backstory came out after the animated series I feel like the whole captain rex vs commander is a continuity issue rather than a canonical issue they failed to address.
They made Rex a captain because he so badass and so skilled that he made the other commanders feel all sad inside and triggered so to prevent all the clone commanders from running to their corners and crying they made Rex a captain so the commanders could get a false sense of superiority. it's simple XD
But technically Rex is in the Republic Navy. And The navy ranks Captain higher than Commander, Naval Captain = Army Colonel. Naval Commander = lieutenant Colonel
nikhil sinha technically rex is part of the grand army of the republic aka the clone army and they use their own rank structure. In the GAR thr officer ranks goes from lieutenant captain, batallion commander, regiment commander, sr. Commander, and then marshal commander
The theory I believe is that due to the diffrances in how commanders and capins lead there troops, Rex stayed as a captain due to the bond he had with them (I'm not a military expert so I don't know the specific deatils). That just seems the red way of doing it, declining a promotion to put his men first. And for thoes saying Ashoka was the commander, I thought Jedi were always generals but let me know if there's a cannon exemption to this (I'm going off of cannon rex because I haven't read into legends deep enough to know what I'm on about with it).
Yeah, in military units, the higher ranked are usually more distant from their soldiers and sometimes even hated and joked about. If this really wasnt a writers' mistake, this theory makes the most sense.
James Hwang when Rex was talking about the clone wars he talked about anakin and repeated what anakin said being "the best leaders lead by example." You can't really lead by example from the rear.
Geestly I think that he wasn't promoted because commanders are with more strategie and that was Skywalkers job and rex was more like a fighter and father figure to the clones.
I have an idea. What if the 501st did have a clone commander, who Rex was close to, who died, and Rex rejected the rank out of respect for his fallen brother.
I imagine some kind of PTSD where mentioning it causes Rex to spiral into depression, and because we never really got a stand alone Captain Rex story like we did with Domino Squad and the like it never came up. Example: Skywalker: Hey Rex, what ever happened to the 501st old commander? Rex: EVERYTHING IS WORTHLESS!!!! I'M PATHETIC!!!! ALL IS DEATH!!!! *Cries in corner*
I thought the Clones were genetically engineered to not get Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder flashbacks, though? I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that was the case.
waaait a minute.. in season 7 of the Clone Wars series, he was stripped of his commander rank after he helped Ahsoka after Order 66.. he even said “i never liked being commander anyway”
I feel like if Ahsoka was not Anakin’s padawan, hence taking the role of Commander, then Rex would have become a Commander a lot more quickly- especially after Umbara
I think he might be like Captain Phasma where they hold a higher rank but use the title captain, like how Captain Phasma held the title but was more like Supreme Commander or a general since she was part of the unofficial Leadership triumvirate along with Kylo Ren and General Hux
I agree with you about Phasma using Captain as a title rather than rank, but I doubt the same of Captain Rex who isn't really special in the grand scheme of the Clone Army.
I didn't mean Rex was supreme commander of the clone army I mean't he used captain as a title when his real rank for commander more specifically battalion commander aka the lowest ranked commander
I'd be willing to say that there are soldiers throughout time and different universes that simply didnt want to elevate past a certain rank. He's a captain that wields the command granted to legends.
Another theory could be that the 501st took heavy casualties on geonosis and lost much of there upper leadership (command post bombing or smt like that) anyways Rex was given command of the legion as an acting commander until a qualified Clone could be brought in, however Skywalker liked him so much he left him in command, then when Ashoka arrived she was given Commander which filled that position, leaving command liaison to Rex. Further, perhaps the difference between Legions and Brigades is they don’t use Battalions. Which would explain why there are no other officers above Lieutenant. Or alternatively there were other battalion commanders but Rex had Torrent Company and was made Command liaison. So in the same way that a Battalion Sargent Major can give orders to Officers in the real military Rex staff position gave him command authority far above his rank.
Captain Rex remained a captain because he did not have the personality of us commanders, he was too excited to get into the fighting and could never command from behind the front line.
Bly, I spent nearly all of the war as a sergeant and only got my promotion to commander for Operation Knightfall. And who is to say a commander has to be behind the front lines? I was in the thick of the fighting on the assault on the Temple, as was Lord Vader and the rest of the 501st.
I meant that Rex was incapable of commanding from behind, and even though that is not a tactic often employed in the Army of the Republic, it is a necessary skill to have as a commander.
Commander Bly That's not all that true. Rex definitely had a mind for strategy, as we clearly see throughout the show that he can come up with some devastating and unorthodox plans. The only reason he never led from the back was because he understood that fighting alongside your men, not behind them, was much more inspiring. Sure, you shouldn't just stick all your officers on the front lines, but when you have an officer like Rex who can think on the fly and in the midst of combat alongside you on the battlefield, you're gonna feel a lot more inspired to keep going than you are by the guy sitting two miles away in a safety bunker.
Jason Cansler I understand that. I mean that a Commander's life is valuable. If he dies, the entire corps serving under him suffers a major blow. A good commander needs to know when he can go to the front lines to rally his men and when he shouldn't.
I saw something that said arc trooper Alfa trained one Commander and one capitain per unit and because Anikan started the war as a padwan Cody and rex were the leaders of either the 212 or the 501 then when Anikan became a Jedi knight he wanted Rex to be his clone leader and rex was never promoted because Ashoka came along before he had completed the requirements to advance. Also at the time Anikan only wanted one Commander in the 501 (clearly his mind changed later, Bow, Vill, and Appo) this also explains why the 212 doesn't have a capitain
It finally hit me that if i replied in other peoples comments that not everyone is going to get the closest answer to this. so im gonna list these off. 1: His rank has nothing to do with the padawan 1.5: He was not demoted because of her 2: He is technically only a Company Officer which would actually make his rank Captain ?: Due to weird phrasing, yes he has been called 501st Legion Commander but his rank would become a Senior Commander which is technically two Ranks above Cody at Battalion commander. Side Note: For those confused a Legion has 16 battalions and 212th is only ONE battalion while 501st is made up of 16. 3: The reason he is so close with Cody could be due to A:The special training some officers went through B: The fact that Battalion commander and Company commander are actually 1 rank apart C: Nobody knows and it was probably just little character creation so kids didn't die of knowing 100+ commanders and what they did..
You say the 212th has only one battalion, but it has also the 7th sky corps in it which includes boil and waxer and the 7th sky corps was also at the battle of utapau
Seems more likely. It seems that rex is only in control of torrent company, one single company out of the many that would make up a battalion and so on. There had to have been many many other captains and commanders we don't know much about besides appo and vill.
yeah, but while there are some pros, there are also some cons to being a commander. First, you can't look up to another clone officer for advice and you have to make sure you make the right decisions and have good leadership skills otherwise your men might not trust you.
It just would never be his style. He needs to be there with his men, to be in the action, and again, being a commander... "In my world, it's the experience that counts" Being a commander... just wouldn't really be his style, would it?
Supppsedly towards the very end the the war. Ahsoka ended up getting her own clone army. All clones were from the 501st and had their colors switched from blue to orange. Anakin ended up letting Rex leave the 501st to help Ahsoka. Maybe he was made commander after that.
Rex was definitely a subordinate to Clone Commanders. He and Cody didn't act that way around each other but when he was with Commander Bly he was taking orders from him and referring to him as "sir."
Appo is the (or more accurately, "a") 501st comm. Rex is Captain of his special group with the Umbara bunch. Captains command somewhere around 150 clones and given the same group stays with him throughout the show, I'm pretty sure he's actually an in-lore regular captain that Anakin favored.
I think he was never promoted because if he didn't fit as a high ranking commander staying behind lines, as you see in the movies hes always on the frontline and I like to think that Captains - Low Commanders like Bly and Gree were the highest Clone ranks on the battlefield but thats just what I think
Actually, perhaps only Battalions are commanded by Commanders, while Legions are commanded by Captains. So basically, while on a standard scale, Commanders are higher than Captains, but in certain situations/groups, Captains are their equivalent, as its not that Legions cant have commanders, but if you are a Captain, you are seen as the same ranking as a Commander, basically just a different name/Ranking System. Almost like the difference between an Admiral and a General. Both are the highest rankings in their respective fields, but are placed differently according to speciality. They both hold the same ranking title, just a different scale type. I think that is how it is, or at least very close along those lines, but anyway, great video, and as always, keep up with amazing channel content.
Head canon Captain Rex didn't want the rank of Commander because it would've been boring. He would rather be with his brothers, instead of commanding them.
Martin Herrera -Howdy- But Commander Cody is, obviously a commander, and he fought alongside his troopers like all other Clone Commanders. Rex while not a commander was still commanding his men, so I don't quite understand what you're saying.
Defected Asian He wanted to be on the frontlines where he would be needed the most. But I made the Comment like 2 months ago, so I'm not sure what I trying to say that time.
This annoyed me for years, I just kinda consoled myself by saying either because Ahsoka was the legions official Commander or because an even more crazy theory, Rex was offered the rank of a commander but because the 501st already had one he would have to transfer to a new legion. But Rex as we know cares for the 501st above all else and would rather stay a Captain and be with his brothers than be a Commander somewhere else. Side Note - I hope Cody teased him a bit considering he was 2 ranks ahead of Rex
honestly, I like the sound of commander rex. it's only that we are so used to captain that we like it more. it sounds right and natural. if it were the other way around I think it wouldve gone the same way.
Captain Rex reminds of "Buck Compton" from Easy Company 501st. He had the charisma and experience to be a major and was even in the running for other high ranking positions within Easy Company by late 1944. But he was kept as a platoon leader because of the same charisma and experience which was deemed invaluable by his CO and friend Lt. Dick Winters.
My theory is in bbattlefront 2, its said the 501st are a land and space legion, and as such, the 501st get naval ranks. Captain in the navy = Colonal in the army.
Surely his staying as captain is a nod to one of his deepest beliefs, which is some in the conversation between him and Asoka when she first appears - "experience comes before rank" (i cant remeber the exact quote so i paraphrased)
I think rex was only a captain because commander's weren't allways in frontlines and were sometimes in command centers giving orders. I think they saw that rex was better in the frontlines than in the back.
I think he was probably promoted to commander during the clone wars (and perhaps is named as such on his file) but he kept referring to himself as captain and probably told nobody of his promotion because "Captain Rex" was simply his identity by that point.
Thanks for making the video, you raised some good points that I never considered before. I'm pretty sure it was just them trying to make his name sound cool, but the in-universe answers are interesting.
I always took it as a sign of respect to the 501st. Anakin and Rex didn't want to act superior as in their mind "The best leaders lead by example". Anakin and Rex would've both laid down their life for the sake of the 501st even if it wasn't the best call tactically. That's what a Captain would do not a Commander.
Ok first Jedi don't belong in the Army so they are not subject to military ranks. They were given Generals and Commanders ranks only to fit in with the Clones and to give them the right to give orders. So Ahsoka isn't Commander of the 501st. That being said, the real answer to Rex not being commander is probably that the writers didn't really care but in the Lore, as someone here said Rex was probably too close to the troops. (Even in the military now being too close to your subordinates isn't always a good thing... I can relate ^^ )
I always assumed he was a captain because captains specialized in 'boots-on-the-ground' combat, whereas commanders, like Cody and Gree, were tacticians and strategists (but still had plenty of combat experience).
If you think about it rex personality would scare a lot of high ranking leaders he usually won't fallow orders if he thinks they are wrong, argue with leaders, and sometimes do his own thing which was different from any other clone Commander
I always thought Rex never got a promotion was because how his rank as a Captain fits perfectly with his name. So the General would just be like,"Nah, I prefer calling you captain rather than commander."
Rex and Anankin are so similar they love to fight and be on the front lines leading the charge. I figured that rex never wanted to be promoted since he will miss leading the 501st into battle.
Captain rex proabably just wanted to stay a captain more of an action field leader guy then a stand in the background and make plans, let's not forget he's a little like ahnakin
I remember hearing somewhere that in the clone army "Captain" was a more battle skilled title while "Commander" was a more stragetically skilled title, but I don't know how accurate that is
gonna add here, Ahsoka was the commander of the 501st as she is a padawan and she is referred to as Commander Tano many times. Also when Ahsoka leaves, Rex would probably have assumed Acting Commander which is the intermediary state between ranks. Used when a military officer is fulfilling the position of another rank but keeping their original rank title
Somebody once told me Rex is only a captain because he was once offered a promotion but denied since he wanted to stay on the front lines for as long as possible.
He stayed captain so he would still be able to fight with his men, as opposed to commanders, who were meant to stay and call shots in the back-line of the force.
Captain Fives Neither does Captain Fives, lmao.
FoxSW iF At least I'm an Arc trooper
FoxSW iF if you guys look at military ranks, you are promoted from commander to captain, that's why Anakin calls rex his first in command, where as Ashoka is only Commander
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_rank
Captain Fives At least Fox survived the Clone Wars.
TheUltimateBrickMaster GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) ranks are different. Captains are outranked by commanders.
Well new news: Captain Rex actually was promoted in season 7 because Ahsoka left the order making the rank of CO free for him. So Rex took the rank of Commander only so he can take Ahsoka with him to battle as a consultant on Mandalor.
Because "Captain" Rex sounds better than "Commander" Rex
Dragonrage I thought it was because Wolfe was the commander and their couldn’t be another commander
You know cause Wolfe pack
Issa Knife wolffe was the commander of a whole different legion, nothing to do with Rex’s 501st
If he was commander Rex for the entire time instead of captain then we probably would thing captain was weird with Rex so I think he didn’t accept the position because he was pretty much the commander of the 501st already and if he had become the commander then he wouldn’t be on the frontlines as much.
Well commander Rex exists now so...
Because he was too modest to accept another promotion.
Ima-Gun Di i could see that
Ima-Gun Di modesty huh? I like that idea
Ima-Gun Di Rex really knew his brethren from an individual standpoint, all of his troopers respected him and had a personal connection with Rex. Being a commander would have forced Rex to command too many clones. He would not really get to know them individually.
But he was pretty much already the clone commander of the 501st.
Dot dot dot The only difference would be that Rex wouldn't have been as hands on and on the frontlines as much if he did accept the position
How did anakin react to his "death?"
Keldon That's a really good one actually.
+Nahuel Martinez Answer: We don't know
Keldon that would be in rebels and he was darth vader
Wish we knew lmao, there's no answer for this one yet
How would a murderer react to the person they just killed?
Commanders normally commanded from the back of the battlefront or from command posts. Rex might have refused any promotion and stayed at Captain to fight on the front lines with his men.
That didn't stop Cody or Bacara
You say that Anakin didn't wanted to have 2 commanders, Ahsoka and Rex, but Rex was in the 501st since the begining. Clumsy0015 he is an idiot boi he killed the last known source of hope before order 66 was initiated
Anakin Skywalker The Master Troll!!!!
If hes an idiot for following orders, i guess Rex is mostly an idiot too? He was pretty much ordered to kill Fives by palpitine.
CommanderCodyHD: true fox is a dumbass

Goddess Miranda.Cosgrove seargent appo* became commander after the jedi purge and comander rex defected
Rex was in the 501st before Ahsoka, and also when Rex was declared dead, Anakin made Sergeant Appo the Commander of the 501st
QualityQontent Rex was in the 501st before Ashoka came around
Royce Blackwater clearly he got a demotion. He was always known as captain rex in the animated series. This appears to be a continuity error to me rather than a canonical issue.

biccies_edits yeah you rarely saw commander wolf Cody and gree taking action on the battlefield unless it was necessary.
Yeah, in military units, the higher ranked are usually more distant from their soldiers and sometimes even hated and joked about. If this really wasnt a writers' mistake, this theory makes the most sense.
padawans were commanders while jedi and above were generals.
James Hwang when Rex was talking about the clone wars he talked about anakin and repeated what anakin said being "the best leaders lead by example." You can't really lead by example from the rear.
I think he's a captain because it gives him a supee hero thing like captain America(outside of the lore)
Geestly I think that he wasn't promoted because commanders are with more strategie and that was Skywalkers job and rex was more like a fighter and father figure to the clones.
The star wars cantina of roblox 501 had commander appo
After Order 66
Geetsly thanks so much for making this video I'm a HUGE fan of Captain Rex and always wondered why he was not a higher rank!
Even though he was only a captain he was still the highest ranked clone in the 501st legion and was still the commanding officer for the entire legion
I like the whole chose to remain a captain thought. It fits
He doesn't want to sit in a command post and form battle strategies, he wants to be fighting with his men.
I have an idea. What if the 501st did have a clone commander, who Rex was close to, who died, and Rex rejected the rank out of respect for his fallen brother.
V¡Қ is DΣΛD But that doesn't explain why rex never mentions it.
I imagine some kind of PTSD where mentioning it causes Rex to spiral into depression, and because we never really got a stand alone Captain Rex story like we did with Domino Squad and the like it never came up.

Dapper_Cat they were also genetically engineered to be totally obedient, and follow any order without question. Is that the case?
That's a very good point. I don't really have an argument against that, except "it would make TCW more boring that way."
"Only clones who disobey order 66"
Literally Rex in season 7: am i a joke to u
What's your favorite battalion/corps/legion or squad?Legends and canon? (This isn't just to Geetlsys)
Wolfpack will always be the OG
Yogi Bear
501st, Wolfpack, 212th
327th Star Corps, obviously.
Geetsly's Didn't think you'd really reply! I don't really have a favorite clone "group" but I've got to say, C. Wolf's P2 armor awesome!
Yogi Bear 501st all the way!
Am i the only one who thought Captain was a higher rank than Commander XDDD
Dank Memes it is but in star wars it's completely different
I kind a thought so too I mean Rex is way better then cost
Did you mean Cody
Joebama Drama in the US navy captain is higher than commander but not in star wars.
You're not the only one
Well, he's a Commander now ;P
waaait a minute.. in season 7 of the Clone Wars series, he was stripped of his commander rank after he helped Ahsoka after Order 66.. he even said “i never liked being commander anyway”
I feel like if Ahsoka was not Anakin’s padawan, hence taking the role of Commander, then Rex would have become a Commander a lot more quickly- especially after Umbara
Why would he be promoted after umbara? He didn't accomplish anything there except getting rid of his general
"In my book, experience outranks everything" -Rex💪👌💯
That or he actually was at Commander rank, but everyone felt it suited him better to just refer to him as Captain.
Tom Lastnamington i believe it's based off of Navy ranks where captain is higher than commander
One thing rex says that skill out ranks everything so in his eyes he was much higher then his rank
Thank you bro, I've never seen a legit theory on why he was never promoted, much love
Great thumbnail geetsly 😊
Thanks man!
I'd be willing to say that there are soldiers throughout time and different universes that simply didnt want to elevate past a certain rank. He's a captain that wields the command granted to legends.
Thx I was thinking this for the whole Star Wars the clone wars seasons
Another theory could be that the 501st took heavy casualties on geonosis and lost much of there upper leadership (command post bombing or smt like that) anyways Rex was given command of the legion as an acting commander until a qualified Clone could be brought in, however Skywalker liked him so much he left him in command, then when Ashoka arrived she was given Commander which filled that position, leaving command liaison to Rex.

Guess who just got promoted!!!
There is also commander Appo, commander Vill, and commander Bow
“Ehh.. never much liked being a commander anyway..”
Before appo became commander, who was commander? Since ahsoka left in season 5, who took the spot?
Look at the new season of SWCL he’s called commandet
It finally hit me that if i replied in other peoples comments that not everyone is going to get the closest answer to this. so im gonna list these off.
1: His rank has nothing to do with the padawan
1.5: He was not demoted because of her
2: He is technically only a Company Officer which would actually make his rank Captain
?: Due to weird phrasing, yes he has been called 501st Legion Commander but his rank would become a Senior Commander which is technically two Ranks above Cody at Battalion commander.
Side Note: For those confused a Legion has 16 battalions and 212th is only ONE battalion while 501st is made up of 16.
3: The reason he is so close with Cody could be due to
A:The special training some officers went through
B: The fact that Battalion commander and Company commander are actually 1 rank apart
C: Nobody knows and it was probably just little character creation so kids didn't die of knowing 100+ commanders and what they did..
im pretty sure cody is a marshal commander, and the 501st legion wasn't made out of battalions. It was made out of companies.
You say the 212th has only one battalion, but it has also the 7th sky corps in it which includes boil and waxer and the 7th sky corps was also at the battle of utapau
Alex Boamfa you missed the point of this comment. 212th battalion falls under the 7th sky corps.
Seems more likely. It seems that rex is only in control of torrent company, one single company out of the many that would make up a battalion and so on. There had to have been many many other captains and commanders we don't know much about besides appo and vill.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I think he denied it because he didn't feel good enough
ItsToxic I don't think any clone would deny commander
schloob yo right :D they can lead a big group of cloned ;) that's coool
there were a few clones in legends that denied promotions
yeah, but while there are some pros, there are also some cons to being a commander. First, you can't look up to another clone officer for advice and you have to make sure you make the right decisions and have good leadership skills otherwise your men might not trust you.
It just would never be his style.
He needs to be there with his men, to be in the action, and again, being a commander...
"In my world, it's the experience that counts"
Being a commander... just wouldn't really be his style, would it?
Supppsedly towards the very end the the war. Ahsoka ended up getting her own clone army. All clones were from the 501st and had their colors switched from blue to orange. Anakin ended up letting Rex leave the 501st to help Ahsoka. Maybe he was made commander after that.
Rex was the best clone ever, no one can disagree. If you do you know nothing of star wars.
Rex was definitely a subordinate to Clone Commanders. He and Cody didn't act that way around each other but when he was with Commander Bly he was taking orders from him and referring to him as "sir."
He didn't have the high ground.
General Kenobi!!!
Hello there
@@sand5792 No offense but you are coarse, rough and irritating. And you get everywhere. Still less annoying than young Anakin though. ;)
Technically, he now is a Commander in Star Wars rebels.
Appo was only after order 66 the commander from the 501st before that he was sergeant, and btw Appo was also in the cw in the battle of umbara
I think he was never promoted because if he didn't fit as a high ranking commander staying behind lines, as you see in the movies hes always on the frontline and I like to think that Captains - Low Commanders like Bly and Gree were the highest Clone ranks on the battlefield but thats just what I think
Nice video mate, keep it up.
Oh this video took a fat L
"In my world, it's the experience that counts."
Head canon
Captain Rex didn't want the rank of Commander because it would've been boring.
Defected Asian
He wanted to be on the frontlines where he would be needed the most.
But I made the Comment like 2 months ago, so I'm not sure what I trying to say that time.
rex was eventually a commander in the rebel alliance
This annoyed me for years, I just kinda consoled myself by saying either because Ahsoka was the legions official Commander or because an even more crazy theory, Rex was offered the rank of a commander but because the 501st already had one he would have to transfer to a new legion. But Rex as we know cares for the 501st above all else and would rather stay a Captain and be with his brothers than be a Commander somewhere else.
Side Note - I hope Cody teased him a bit considering he was 2 ranks ahead of Rex
Cody was 5 ranks ahead of rex...the fuck?
Well he’s a commander now
I only follow rebels for a rex Vader reunion it better not be as lame as ashokas reunion.
master chief Probably won't happen but a Rex Cody reunion might happen.
rebels is a terrible series
honestly, I like the sound of commander rex. it's only that we are so used to captain that we like it more. it sounds right and natural. if it were the other way around I think it wouldve gone the same way.
I thought captain was above commander lol
In real life, yes, in SW, no
CWolffe only in the navy not with ground forces
Paul Mackenan I have never encountered any ground forces with a rank "Commander", at least not in European armies or in the English-speaking world
Lol, I don't know anymore, I get so confused :p
CWolffe thats just confusing
I don't think Rex wasn't a commander, more of that his "Captain" was so iconic that it stuck with his nickname.
Because Captain Rex sounds right?
Captain Rex reminds of "Buck Compton" from Easy Company 501st. He had the charisma and experience to be a major and was even in the running for other high ranking positions within Easy Company by late 1944. But he was kept as a platoon leader because of the same charisma and experience which was deemed invaluable by his CO and friend Lt. Dick Winters.
I know why ya'll here :)
Nice battlefield 1 reference in the thumbnail
Maybe Rex had a higher Rank but kept the Captain in hes name. I have read about this happend before in our History.
Star Wars + Battlefield 1 = one badass thumbnail and great video
He was technically part of the navy. Captain is an O6 while commander is O5. That’s just based on my opinion
He was not, he was Boots on the Ground Infantry
I think the higher ups disliked the idea of a clone commander to have such metal forditude and free will to disobey orders.
Wait captain is a higher rank the commander so why would it matter?
Joshua Hoge No it's not
Michael J. Caboose. Really that's just weird.
Joshua Hoge literally only clicked this video to see this comment. I was thinking the same thing.
Joshua Hoge only in the navy
Mathew Carr lol I know right?
My theory is in bbattlefront 2, its said the 501st are a land and space legion, and as such, the 501st get naval ranks.
Captain in the navy = Colonal in the army.
well i guess you can delete this Video now
Pfisi Pfistrer lol
2021… Season 7 released showed him as a commander
He could have been 'Captain' of his squad but the 'Commander' of the legion.
The clone always called Asoka, Commander Tano, so you know.
Completely off topic, but what the hell is the background song used in this video? That beat is on point.
I always assumed he was a captain because captains specialized in 'boots-on-the-ground' combat, whereas commanders, like Cody and Gree, were tacticians and strategists (but still had plenty of combat experience).
same here but rex demonstrated strategic talents as well such as surprising Cody when he disguised himself as a commando droid
Who's commander now 😂😂😂🤣🤣
If you think about it rex personality would scare a lot of high ranking leaders he usually won't fallow orders if he thinks they are wrong, argue with leaders, and sometimes do his own thing which was different from any other clone Commander
You are in charge of a legion, but we do not give you the rank of commander.
I always thought Rex never got a promotion was because how his rank as a Captain fits perfectly with his name. So the General would just be like,"Nah, I prefer calling you captain rather than commander."
Rex finally got that sweet sweet commander rank in rebels
Rex and Anankin are so similar they love to fight and be on the front lines leading the charge. I figured that rex never wanted to be promoted since he will miss leading the 501st into battle.
It's Captain, Sir.
Rex said that experience beats rank so he probably stood by that and never needed a title to tell him what to do
I like the theory that he's just the most confusing clone ever so thats why he stayed captain xD
He stayed captain so he would still be able to fight with his men, as opposed to commanders, who were meant to stay and call shots in the back-line of the force.
He was promoted to Commander to lead 332nd Company of 501st Legion in Battle of Mandalore
In Rex's book, experience outranks everything.
