When this movie came out in 1978, I was in 11th grade, working in a theater. We ran it 5 nights a week, 3 times a day on Saturday and Sunday. It was "held over" so we had it for 2 weeks. I knew exactly where this part was in the movie so I made sure to be in the theater to watch this scene every single time but once. The girl from the ticket booth wanted to watch it and we both couldn't be in the theater at the same time, so I let her watch it ONE TIME.

Five stages of becoming an Aerosmith fan -
    1. Dream On, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Don't Want to Miss a Thing etc
    2. Listen to full albums
    3. Start watching live performances
    4. Read up on the history on the band
    5. Ends up here.
I'm afraid of trying to understand this in context.

I laugh at how Steven said in his book that he fell 30 feet off the platform into the airbag about 20 times, just for sh*s and giggles. Made it sound like he'd never had so much fun up until then. They would usually have a stunt double fall that far, but hey, that wasn't my decision. Watch his head when Peter Frampton is pinning him down; he's looking up her dress, or as he said, seeing up Strawberry's shortcake.
Mmm, my boys are rockin' those stormtrooper costumes. 💕

Definitely the highlight of this movie. They were so strung out on drugs then. I was surprised they pulled it off. This was a bad time for Aerosmith. Then they did the Draw the Line album and some claim they dont remember doing it and it was one of my favorites in 1979

    • @youtubenpc8273

Draw the line came out in 1977. This movie came out in 1978. In 78, Aerosmith live bootleg came out. In 1979, the shit album night in the ruts came out. Aerosmith sucked after 1977. Anyway, Frampton wanted to be a villain in the movie and was pissed off when they teamed him up with the beegees. Ruined his image. Before the movie, he was considered 1 of the biggest rock stars of the time. After the movie he was reduced to a goodie goodie pop star. He developed a drinking problem after that.

💥In retrospect, there's really nothing wrong with the silly script as it really IS a silly film.
The problem is not the movie itself but how it was hyped up and so grandeurly introduced to the media & public.
Just before production began, It was heralded as the "Gone With The Wind" of the 70's!😳 Holy Crapo! Even now in 2021, nothing comes close to that 1940s Epic!
So everyone was anticipating a more serious musical extravaganza and not kid-humor cartoonish cliché stuff.
Second, the pressure was on Frampton's & The BEE GEES's Beatles' performances.
Of course, they will never satisfy Beatles fans despite George Martin's first hand arrangements & production, especially the Gibbs still fresh from the SNF soundtrack phenomena. To Fab Four fans, it was sacrilegious to even emulate such a legendary album & catalogue, to the outside audience, it was mixed reviews.
But because the audience felt cheated & ridiculed by expecting what the movie was hyped for, only to be on the caliber of downright silly everything like the Airplane or Hot Shots franchise where you're not suppose to mind the story and just enjoy the soundtrack & some visuals & gags, and that's it!
Word of mouth was fierce as a pre-ordered 3 million initial ordered shipping of the double album vinyl became bargain bin fillers after 3 wks of theater release. Also, although the soundtrack faired quite well with Robin's jazzy R&B version of Oh, Darling! went to Top 15, it was a downward spiral after that since the public has heard enough of the negativity and just wanted out.
I must admit that Frampton's The Long and Winding Road can stand side by side with Paul's with Peter's solo lead, but Barry's A Day In A Life was just too loose of an arrangement (even more loose than the original) and that sound together with the other renditions without tight arrangements just won't hold in the late 70's. That's exactly the reason why Aerosmith's Come Together & EW&F Got to Get...were the only (2) saving grace tracks in the album. You can play them now and they will still sound fresh and undated.
Frampton was actually on the way out when the movie came out and his last hit I'm In You was already stale in the public's ears, which i honestly felt became a hit due to the spill of his ...Comes Alive monster album.
If Frampton came out with at least a Top 10 song from his next studio album after Pepper (Where I Belong), it may have kept him afloat for a little while more, but the album didn't even enter the Top 100.
The BEE GEES actually came out unscathed as a 'paradox' happened.
While both critics & the public were vomiting on the thought of the Pepper movie, millions all over the world were simultaneously embracing the their new studio album 'Spirits [Having Flown]'.
It spawned (3) No.1 hits in the US to connect with their previous (3) No. 1s from the SNF soundtrack. So, they were enjoying the best of times while in the midst of that is the worst of movies, not so much of the movie itself, but the way it was misleadingly introduced to the public --- ■

ok honestly, if you were a straight woman. who would you go for? peter frampton or joe perry? honestly, as a dude and as much i like frampton (and i feel he doesn't get enough love as a guitarist). i'm going with joe perry. he's dreamy. i could never buy into the idea of the bee gees and frampton beating up aerosmith. i know frampton is from south london and south londoners are tough but... against 5 bostonians... no.

@williamson53: "It would've been better if it was Kiss or Ozzy"
On the other hand, a very odd grouping, Heavy Metal Kiss or Ozzy with Disco Bee-Gees. Like that time before Jimi Hendrix was very big and famous yet, some promoter or whomever staged a Monkees concert with The Jimi Hendrix Experience as the opening act.
But at least Kiss made _Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park_ [1978], th-cam.com/video/XQBMJZhCJs4/w-d-xo.html hehehe excellent! hehehehe but needs a Blu Ray release hehehehehe

Actually, the producers DID ask KISS first, but they were too busy making the "Phantom of the Park" at the time. So what was the next best choice when KISS wasn't available? Aerosmith, of course! You say, Why not Ozzy? Well, in 1978, his life was in transition--he just got kicked out of Sabbath and he was in the gutter just before his solo career. That's okay. Because while KISS eventually "sold out" to KING DISCO the next year, Aerosmith remained the arch enemies of Disco, albeit in a weakend state, but still waiving the "Future Villain Band" flag of rock, high and proud, and when KISS were crooning "I Was Made For Lovin You", Aerosmith were rockin hard as ever with "Night In the Ruts"! So in the end, I think the producers of this film got it right!

@Terrence Reardon and Friends Podcast Podcast Interesting. So they did ask around a little before they got to Aerosmith. Never really sure why they weren't close to the top of the list. Led Zeppelin would have worked, too, but Pink Floyd? I don't know---those fellas are too nice looking to play villains!

So Aerosmith agreed to be beaten up by BeeGee's. No wonder they disappeared for 10 years. Disco kings kill Rock band. So sad.
