my mother turned me and my cousin on to this when we were kids in the early, early, early, 80's, a few years ago, i purchased the dvd, shes gone now, whenever i watch it i think of her
Certain melodic abominations notwithstanding, I DIG the striptease/dirty feel of this version. And that second section of harmonic breakout (the layers of "Heavy, heavy, HEAVYYYYY") spectacularly nail the brilliance of that chord's structure. I always thought the visuals of the spinning record and bed in the movie were really the perfect choice for the whole pimpy vibe of this incarnation. And Dianne Steinberg and her ladies take me over the top... Thank you for keeping this version alive!
😮H, I've never forgotten that scene with the spinning record bed; but had no idea it was actually a waterbed. I also remember that scene ending with a couple kissing on it. L😂L! ⏺️🌊🛏️💋
It was a combo of really bad timing, their respect for the Beatles and their fears of overexposure. Unfortunately, their worst fears were realized. The Bee Gees were criticized early in their career as being Beatles knock-offs, and this just cemented that in the minds of their haters. It was just the wrong project at the wrong time with all the wrong people attached to it. They ended up suing RSO Records and the late Sir Robert Stigwood not long afterwards. Most of the Beatles were pretty cool about the Bee Gees covering their songs, although I suspect John Lennon probably regretted giving Maurice Gibb his first drink :)
@@cubdukat Paul and Ringo attended the premier and didn't like it. George refused to see it and expressed sympathy for Frampton & the Bee Gees for having their careers hurt by it. John had to watch it as an in-flight movie TWICE IN A ROW while on a plane from Rome to NYC in 1979 and said it was "the longest night of my life" lol
Pink Floyd was definitely influenced by the original Beatles songs. The finale of Dark Side was clearly inspired by (the original version of) this song.
Strong disagree. Donald Pleasance should've sang the whole song. As a matter of fact, the entirety of the Sgt Pepper's soundtrack should've been sung by only Donald Pleasance. No one else.
this is a great version and its a pretty smokin hot sequence in the movie. the Bee Gees do their harmony part very well . there were other covers before this including a nice one by Eddie Hazel
Yeah the Bee Gees were way ahead of their time, these songs are awesome . . . oh wait, the BEATLES wrote them 11 years before this movie came out. So . . . . yeah. Someone was ahead of their time.
This version screams, "Hey everybody! Let's put this song in the scene showing rock and roll decadence and get everyone who's in it to sing a line of it! Except you, Donald, you can't sing, so you just speak the words. Hey, you still get to kick it off!" :-D
I was young when this movie came out, and I didn't even realize these were Beatles songs at the time. This was one of the few songs that really captured me. When I discovered Abbey Road years later, I realized how much *better* the original version of this (and everything, really) was. Even so, I have a nostalgic fondness for the film and the soundtrack. Aerosmith rocked "Come Together", but really - everything else was pale in comparison to the original recordings.
@@officialFredDurstfanclub I will totally give you that. It was a regular listen for me when I had the soundtrack a zillion years ago. A Day In The Life isn't bad either, but again, the Beatles version is better. I remember disliking "Because" at the time, but after discovering it on Abbey Road years later, it's one of my favorite Fab Four songs.
Not to be vain, but I know you do, nothing is more obvious..Youve been following me in the shadows for 7 years...Aside that, this is one of the best versions of the beautiful Beatles masterpiece
My folks have this soundtrack on record. I used to like it a lot. Then I got Abbey Road on CD. That made this sound lame. Then when I read an interview with Barry Gibb where he trashed the movie, that did it. So I haven't listened to it since. But when I did a TH-cam search for I Want You She's So Heavy this came up in the search results and I couldn't resist.
This verison of I want you is sooooo much better, besides the first three singers. Every aspect of this song is better singing wise and especially guitars and drums
Ahh, the movie that mixed the Beatles with some disco, played out like Rocky Horror Picture Show, and throw in The Phantom of The Paradise for good measure. It was a fun movie to watch at the midnight movies.
I have been searching for this BEE GEES version of I WANT YOU ---That SOLO is a masterpiece ---! CAN ANYONE GET ME THE TAB FOR THIS UNUSUAL SOLO (NOT the same as the Beatles version --this solo is unique !
strawberry fields should’ve come back as a bad girl groupie instead of dying when Aerosmith came on. kind of like sandy from grease in a way? and they could try to get her back to normal
If it was, it was most likely Maurice. He was the uber-musician of the group. Then again, it may've been a session player; I'm not sure the BeeGees played much of the instruments in studio by the 70's, unlike the '60's when Maurice nearly always had a Rickenbacker bass strapped to him.
is there any song Dianne Steinburg sings on as cool as this one ? I love her voice in this particular song a lot but every other recording i find of her so far just sucks ass like she should be singing in mall converted to an ice rink in 1978 .. very poor disco esqu crap is all i find .. anyone out there who can turn me on to some great Steinburg tracks like this one ????
One fun track on what is honestly one of the worst movies ever made. (And please don't conflate what an amazing song this is with this cheap, lazy cover.)
The one album I wish was on Spotify. This one.
True
Estoy de acuerdo, lo he buscado hoy y por eso estoy aquí escuchándolo al no encontrarlo. Excelentes versiones.
I think the Bee Gee's were way ahead of their time. This soundtrack is awesome! Especially their version of She's Leaving Home!
ELO must have listened to that before they wrote Mr Bluesky.
Shanna Bol You hear that synth? They're well within their time.
Shanna Bol To be honest, I wouldn't know if they were in their time or not. I do know however that that synth was the best they could do with their limitations of technology. I'm just messing with you :p
This is a gd awful travesty. Ahead of its time? LOL
So, the Beatles were ahead of their time cuz they're all Beatles songs.
Remember the record bed?
Yes
I am 39 this was my parents first date in fort Myers FL
Not easily forgotten. Wish I could remember how young I was.. Seminal moment. Frampton should do this live.

One of the funky songs!! Love it!!
Very special HUGE THANKS TO
Donald Pleasance, I

HIT IT, MAN!!

This was the first movie I ever heard a Dolby Stereo soundtrack on. I remember being so impressed at how clear and crisp the high frequencies were.
I have been waiting to hear this for about ten years and got to see the movie 3 nights ago
Why you wait so long? Amazon has been a thing since the 90s…not to mention the internet, Netflix, video stores, etc… 🤔
This is when they corrupt Billy.
Lmaooo
don't know why Peter Frampton and I' the bee gees never liked doing this. it's spectacular .
Because they were honest and had sense enough to know how much the movie and these covers suck.
Because to their peers the Beatles were gods and they didn't like the fact that to the 70's teens the Bee Gees were better.

Love the movie. Got the dvd, album, cassette, dvd and somewhere VHS lol
This part of the movie
This could have been a masterpiece if only Donald Pleasance wasn't speaking at the beginning. Love the harmonizing by the Bee Gees.
He's supposed to do that; in the movie, he's playing the record company guy in the limo saying how much he wants them.
Donald Pleasance? I often wondered who that was.
