@@polaroid6175 nah i don't think so, his voice in current video still same, and look many subs he got now? it just because of the time, he make more quality videos, more chances he get notice
Takamura 'almost killed' himself while preparing for the fight, and Hawk's f-ery made it even more 'harder.' The fight was worth it, both in the manga and in the anime.
Really got some audible laughs out of me. When Ippo's sparring with the cute reporter girl Kumiko, he punches her in the chest. Immediately after Kimura and Aoki are grabbing him and Aoki is licking Ippo's glove like a dog, I was laughing my ass off
Agreed underrated but but the most underrated is Legend of the Legendary Heroes name sounds weird but it is hilarious I promise on Hajime no Ippo it is worth checking out man so is Yawara a fashionable judo girl the judo is real stuff check both of these out the animation in Yawara isn't the best but the story line is amazing u know how you'll say I'll stop after this episode and u watch the next one Yawara is like that it's not over exaggerated like most anime check it out
If a writer is capable of making his protagonist lose then he immediately gets my attention. Tbh when I first saw ippo it was for the sake of humoring a friend. But what got my attention was ep 57. It gave me the chills that I had when I saw ep 9 of jojo. A hero losing is something you don’t see everyday. And as eerie as it might sound. It’s quite refreshing
I think that's honestly something any battle story should implement. If the main character only loses 10% of the time then his battles get pretty damn boring pretty damn fast unless of course you implement some sort of tactic like the writer of one punch man.
I started boxing when I was 11 because I was being bullied badly. I started sparring at 12 and had my first fight at 14. I continued boxing until I was 21. I was short and had black hair. This show hit me in a very real and specific way
I’ve always been a pretty small and unathletic person but I started boxing just before my 21st birthday. Early on I found Ippo and it was a huge inspiration when I was building up my athleticism to keep up with the technique. It helps that I’m about his size and weight with a similar pressure fighting style. Every time he learned a new technique I was like hey I do that :) Even a year later I’ve noticed that I managed to maintain my emotional softness(?)/ humility and have been described as “weirdly constructive” during spars
Saying Ippo is an anime about boxing, is like saying Rocky is a movie about boxing: both statements might be "correct", but that generalization does an extreme disservice to the story, the characters, the sheer cinematic brilliance of both series. I'm glad you dug deep into this anime.
Bonfire Keeper James He implents some real life stuff like Roadwork, shadow boxing, little things like that. The fights and the training are unrealistic but it does have a little bit of realism.
I love the fact that I enjoy the moments outside of the ring as much as the moments inside it. I never felt like the show lost momentum outside of the action sequences.
I disagree about Hajime no Ippo not bringing nothing new to the shonen genera. You have to realize the manga begun in 1989. 29 years ago. And Ippo as a shonen character is something precious to behold and original even to nowadays standards. He didn't start boxing to 'prove he's the strongest', and he didn't continue it due to some awesome dream of becoming a world champion. He's Ippo. A guy who symbolizes the Japanese stereotype. He's quiet, gentle, helpful to his mom and makes the best he can do in every activity he engages. But at the same time someone who's practicing one of the most competitive sports ever made, that requires every boxer to have a tiger/champion mentality, but still "lacks" that. And that's what is new and unique to me in the series. Most shonen mangas you have a hero who always smiles, always is the centerpiece to gather all his friends together to a common goal, has that crazy charisma that affects his allies and foes and has that ultimate dream served as a motivation to train hard and achieve this final task. Ippo doesn't have any of those traits. At least he's charismatic figure does not come from the same place as any other hero. His motivation does not come from any dream. If you follow the manga, for example, you can see how never trained ou did things (at least 97% of the manga) from a place of anger or 'dream fulfilling' sensation. It's just the purest 'work hard' motivation. He's the ultimate japanese hero. Another thing that always impressed me is how this same 'lack' of tiger mentality is used as a narrative tool to establish great dialogues with Takamura in the manga (who has the Muhammad Ali, Myke Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Mayweather mentality), and how it was used to start reflections inside Ippo to make possible a character progression. "That's the line only monsters can survive", said Takamura next to the tree you showed. And it is this same tree who's almost a character by itself if you read the manga. Because of every great intern moment to Ippo, there's always a reflection of where he's started and what he wanted to do and what he can become. So I really disagree with the idea the series brought nothing new. Ippo's construction itself is alone as a manga hero in Japan. I just expect you changed your opinion over the years.
I agree it’s original also because it doesn’t rely on the main character to have insane powers. Boxing is something anyone can do and ippo is probably the best realistic and relatable male protagonist created. I haven’t finished the series but it’s one of my favorites so far I heard baki is also like ippo so I’ll watch that as well. I think of ippo as the karate kid but instead of karate he does boxing instead
@@cond.oriano4945 I mean baki is like ippo, if everybody from Ippo took the super soldier serum. I mean the main antagonist punches the ground and STOPS A FUCKING EARTHQUAKE! so yeah...
Something that is almost never talked about with this series (which I'm glad you touched on) is Ippo's start from absolute zero. Boxing, MMA, kickboxing, combat sports in general are stereotyped as being loaded to the gills with steroid abusing jocks that need to fight because of some inferiority complex but this can not be further from the truth. So many people will come into the gym as timid underdogs who mold themselves into confident champions by breaking themselves down then building themselves back up better than before. Arrogant twats exist in the sport, but so many more are simply average Joes trying to discover the best sides of themselves by embracing the fire within themselves they didn't even know they had. It's a shame that stigma surrounds combat sports, I thoroughly believe that the art is something that brings out the best in everyone no matter who you are. If you're a meat head you will be forced to humble yourself or you'll countered straight to the mat in the middle of your wild aggression, and if you're timid and shy than you will be forced to find your fighting spirit or you'll be backed up to the ropes and picked apart. It forces you to recognize your flaws and fixes them through grit and friction the same way sandpaper smooths out a rough piece of wood Never doubt yourself, if you've been tempted to sign up to any kind of martial art don't hesitate to sign up and embrace the amazing journey it will send you on. I promise it is one you won't regret because it really _is_ meant for everyone. Find your fire like Ippo that will give you the strength to move forward and show the world what you're made of
Beautifully expressed. I can't help but agree with you. Martial arts helped me a lot with bullies (luckily just the reputation of training managed to discourage them to fight me or my friends) and taught a lot of things about myself, plus it started my interest in philosophy. Thanks to martial arts I also managed to save a friend of mine indirectly (I used to train him in a few easy ways to defend himself on the street and managed to defend himself against an attacker thanks to that) Training has given me a lot of value and I definitely would recomend everyone to try them at least once
Honestly nowadays, I only see martial arts and boxing as people who want a chance at a better life, if you read the stories of fighters like Tyson, Charles Oliveira, Sean Strickland, etc. they were all troubled people who found martial arts to cope with a troubled past. If you look closely almost all of them aren’t dumb brutes.
Before watching this anime I knew literally nothing about boxing, but about halfway Through the anime I found myself predicting what each fighter was going to do next, and throwing random jabs in my everyday life.
Completely unrelated, but on my way to the supermarket was a dude with headphones, watching some kind of show, I believe. When I was about to pass him, he screamed something about using a "gazelle punch" and the next thing I know is laying on the ground after eating a jab from that random motherf*cker. Funny coincidence. I'm watching you. ≖_≖
i joined a boxing gym and my first months were almost a real life adaptation of the start of this series. except i wasn't nearly as clueless at the start (i had already trained some judo and karate before). It was quickly noticed that i punched really hard and that i had a knack for boxing. It wasn't even a month into my training when my trainer almost came when i dodged a hook by crouching and countering with a liver blow during a sparring match. You could see a fire light up in his eyes, he was already making big plans. He already wanted me to take on the nationals right then and there. unfortunately, it was just a hobby for me, so i wasn't interested. i was there just for fun. i stayed a bit more then quit when i was bored, never to fight again. it was cool while it lasted, but it wasn't for me. I value my brain too much to risk it boxing matches.
the fight of the trainer vs that american dude is also so emotion and dramatic never seen a anime so dramatic as ippo! everything is so nice specialy when your a boxing fan like i am + anime its crazy!
@@dd-uf9nw lol i didn. T hate ricardo but felt so bad for date, early on he said after he won that he would bring his kid and wife to the ring and he got fucked broke his jaw and hands damn..
Boxing fights feel empty when you don't know the fighters, it would be the same if you watched only Hajime No Ippo's fight scenes and skip the characters development. But when you go deep into what a fighter in real life has gone through, how much he has sacrificed, from where he started and what he has overcome, then it becomes as interesting as watching this anime, the life story of some fighters are as moving as the ones in this anime. Take for example Tyson Fury's rise, achieving what everyone thought impossible for him, beating Wladimir Klitschko the unified Heavyweight Champion of the world who dominated 10 years unbeaten, his subsequent fall into a psychological depression that lead him to drug addiction, alcoholism, to lose his professional license and to the verge of suicide, and how he overcame all of that and made his way back into the ring to face one of the most devastating punchers in boxing(Deontay Wilder), it was wonderful, even the fight itself was like it was scripted, you can easily make a best seller movie out of it.
Honestly there haven't been many moments in anime to legit give me happy tears or yell hype at my screen, but when the theme started rolling in during the Sendo/Ippo fight, I was out of my fucking seat.
Boxing changed my life, I am not a pro, but it has helped me become who I am today, a man I am proud of. And the first step in this journey was picking up this manga. I owe the author a lot. I just wish I could tell him.
Carlos Mathews - While he said it in a sentence, it deserves much more focus. The comedy of this anime is top notch, I don't actually know any anime that is as funny when it's funny, it's just that the humor is very sparsely spread out.
This is a great series that is criminally underrated, with a great story. A nobody that goes from disrespected to a boxing superstar. And that's just Ippo's story. I got a lot of respect for George Morikawa.
The ironic thing about the show lacking Superpowers or people screaming and shooting energy blasts at people is that each punch feels that much more impactful and dramatic well that and the sakuga (learned that term from you :) ) is gorgeous as well
Mr Bleach just because it’s a gag doesn’t mean it’s shallow. It’s not even a gag to begin with. SAITAMA is a gag CHARACTER. The show in its entirety isn’t a gag and you don’t have to put down one show to justify another being better
Hey Super Eyepatch Wolf, I watched this video and immediately started watching Ippo after years of procrastinating it, thanks for being the thing that finally pushed me over the edge to watch it. It took me 3 months to get through but I loved every second of it, I just wanted to say thank you for pushing me to see it because it was one of my favorite animes I've ever seen.
Hawk v Takamura is probably the fight in anime that had me screaming the most, the way he wrote out the battle was perfect to set up me wanting Hawk to get his ass handed to him.
Ash I don't really think there is a singular masterpiece. It's like saying that dragon ball, or naruto or one piece is THE masterpiece. Not singular, but they're both fantastic
Matthew Mitchell You make a good point. But I was going off the idea of the original post. I do acknowledge that different shows have their own merits.
well fuck that matthew, ashita no joe its actually a TRUE masterpiece. that manga have created the pattern that almost everybody uses to represent boxing in media.
I find it funny that the first face we see when he mentions "negatives" is miyata, cause we all knew it. He's a central villain that barely interacts with the hero, even in the manga
honestly ippo's fangirling of Miyata is pretty forced, like i get the author wants to make a sort of Goku/vegeta, naruto/sasuke kind of friendship/rivalry but to do that means you should make the two characters ACTUALLY interact, fight and spend more time together. Those two spent their most time together probably early in the manga, but barely ever again after that.
I mean I get the intent, really. Miyata and Ippo are usually seen observing and commenting on eachothers' matches, and usually have the best insight on them. The problem is their great rematch that was torpedo-ed out of the story The excuses given are that Miyata's cancellation offended coach Kamogawa, scheduling matches is hard and Miyata's days as a Featherweight are numbered anyway. But Miyata's not moved on to jr. light 300-400 chapters later and no new excuses have been given Wonder if George-sensei's just buying time to design the jr. light world champ
The only time Ippo loses his temper in the reign is when his opponent insulted the teaching of Kamogawa, and then Ippo proceeded to punch him so hard the poor bastard flip over his head in the air
actually it happened more than once in the manga, ippo vs mashiba, him hearing about the BS with sawamura, and a relatively recent fight he had in the manga with a dude who basicly called ippo an absolute jobber all while being so god damn cocky that he thought he can win... im not gonna say what happened because spoilers if you havent read it
Berserk is my favorite manga, and I have really enjoyed your related videos. However, seeing such a well articulated explanation of what makes Ippo so wonderful has me subscribed! Ippo (the anime) was something I stumbled across in college in 2007, and it really lifted my spirits and recharged my batteries anytime I felt low. I've not met many people who have watched this show, and even fewer who appreciate it. Thank you for putting into words the merits of a relatively underrated show! I've already order a couple Teppu volumes, as it seems up my alley!
oh my lord, he said the name Ippo and a wave of memories from an ancient ps2 game just came rushing over me. I used to play Victorious Boxers all the goddamn time when I was younger, you just hit me with a wave of nostalgia that felt just perfect. Thank you, Eyepatch Wolf
Best moment of this show is still Sendo vs. Ippo, the rematch for the title. Just... oh my god, that fight was the most beautiful thing I'd ever watched. I really want to see a series that is all about Sendo and his fights.
Takamura vs hawk, the ending had me choking up and quietly screaming in my throat at 3am while my wife was asleep. Ippo is probably my favorite anime and I grew up with dragon Ball Z, lain, Bebop, trigun, and so many other classics that I took for granted as being the standard quality of anime. Ippo, for me, resonates because life is a battle. It's a fight and sometimes I just need a damn good shonen to give me the courage to take on the next big scary opponent in life.
Hey do you know where to find more of Hajime no ippo? I recently started watching it on Netflix but theres only 38 episodes while Hajime no ippo:The fighting has 88 or so Please tell me where to find it
Currently I think the author made Ippo most human and grounded as possible. 1. He suffered major back to back losses 2. Decides to retire 3. Questioned his future in boxing 4. Badly mentored a deliquient what he thought is supposedly his great desciple 5. He is working in the corner for the Kamogawa team 6. And now he still deals with his personal struggles and doubts in boxing
14:47 - He wasn't fighting dirty, he was fighting strategically. That one guy without eyebrows is a dirty fighter, the guy you're talking about is just using everything he can to try to win.
Yeah that part of the video is the only thing I really disagreed with wolf on. Don’t know what he was thinking since the show made it clear that not everyone has the punching power to fight like Ippo does.
I know this video is old so know one will see this comment but the way John ends the video on what ippo is truly about it always make me choke up because I’ve always had a hard time truly explaining why I love ippo and the way he ends it carries all the emotions i love about this show
One of favorite anime of all-time, SOOOOOOO underrated & under-the-radar, thank you for recognizing & appreciating it! Also, the initial Dempsey Roll episode is right up there, for me anyway, with Goku's first SSJ transformation & Ichigo's 1st Bankai. I think I've watched that episode 50 times. :)
Mix Up is probably the best ep in the entire anime, and that's including the "Takamura Snaps" and "Ippo does the New Dempsey against Sawamura" episodes. No exaggeration.
Everybody's top 3 fights (show only)? Has to be (in no order) Ippo/Sendo 2, Takamura/Hawk, Kamogawa/Anderson? Honorable mentions for Takamura/Eagle, Ippo/Sendo 1, Ippo/Volg, Ippo/Mashiba, Ippo/Sawamura, Kimura/Mashiba. Agree/disagree?
+Robert Campbell I'd have to say ippo/sendo 2, ricardo/date, and mashiba/kimura. the manga is a whooooooooole diff list tho my all time favs are in the manga only
this show is absolute gold. The music, the writing, you dont even notice youre watching "filler", the characters, the fights, the tension, the animation, the stills. Its real gold
Man, I love your videos so much! This is one of the very few anime I can watch multiple times and still enjoy it! It seems our taste in anime/manga is similar so I'm going to read Teppuu, it's pretty short too so it shouldn't take long.
Super Eye Patch Wolf I just wanted to say thank you. For months I’d been struggling with depression and contemplating and I was looking for a distraction to numb my pain when I came upon this video. Seeing you speak so highly of the show I gave it a try and right away something changed. Watching every episode with the trials and tribulations of every character on the way to victory I started to feel hope. Every episode left me either happy, dying laughing, or motivated. A few months later I’m in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally, I’ve even decided I want to pursue boxing. Hajime no Ippo is an amazing show you won’t regret it.
Eh, i like what his character is supposed to be. He is much more of a kid who's kind of spoiled and naturally talented. Seeing him get beat up in the manga by his old rival was great too. It really fit his character and how he was going to develop. He fights better without thinking, which is in contrast to the other characters who need to keep calm and stay focused. Rather than thinking about their next punch and reading their opponent, Itagaki is chanting to himself to go faster showing his determination. I love his concept, i just wish he was done better. He felt out of place along with his bad execution. He's better than budget Sasuke, aka Miyata. But anything is better than Miyata.
Watching this now and hearing you just passed a thousand subs makes re-watching all your videos in the background worth it to see and hopefully use as a reference on how to create a video of something we are passionate about.
Also, may I just mention the music of Season 1? I do not know who wrote the entirety of it but it's SO DAMN UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFUL Some songs are borderline Breakcore, some are beautiful guitar pieces (16:17 is my favorite OST next to TTGL's Libera me from Hell) and god damn it now I feel like rewatching. Thanks Super Eyepatch Wolf, you may be very indepth which some people might dislike but I love how you spoke about every little bit of what makes Hajime no Ippo amazing.
Oh man Season 1 had SOO many good things going for it in just the atmosphere alone. Not to say that the newer seasons were bad in any way, but the first season had such unique charm with the music, I feel like it totally reflects Ippo's character as a developing athlete.
Its because of this video that i started watching it so all i can say is thank u for introducing me to it, u done an amazing job of pitching it to people who haven't seen it and after coming back and watching it again everything u said about the way the show progresses and its characters are spot on, its unbelievably good, thank you🙏🏽
11:00 Using Kaiji's ost was..... 👌👌👌👌. Not only the song fits perfectly but the strong similarities that exists between both series become apparent in a sutle and brilliant way. Well done!

The mc then has to go through more ups and downs compared to his teammates in order to become a great player and then the ace. it is a slow paced series and the mc will take a long time to become great but it makes sense and the payoff is nice later on.
Wolf: Series like Eyeshield 21... Me: damn, he sure knows his stuff Wolf: Haikyuu... Me: oh okay I guess thats it. Wolf: and Slam Dunk Me: I was mistaken, this man is on a league of his own
There is more to Miyata then we have seen. He's done most of his growing as a boxer off the screen. There is a reason why they won't let Ippo fight him yet. Volg and Sendou are incredible boxers, and we've really seen them in action, we still really haven't seen Miyata yet. I think if we ever get to seen Miyata get in the ring with Ippo, will see what all the hype has been about.
I seriously have seen all seasons like 6 times & don't get tired of it, best anime of my interest & love of actual boxing techniques & insights most will never experience.
To me Hajime no Ippo is many things (only read the manga), but it has the basic ingredient a sports manga must have to succeed, and that's to transmit the desire to practice it (Slam Dunk and Captain Tsubasa come to mind). It's incredibly humane in a way not many other shonen stories are. And how there are no real villains, but people with real peoples' problems, insecurities and quirks. It hit me when Ippo faces Jason Ozma, subverting all possible preconceptions very early in the manga, and from there on it just gets better (for the most part). The way Sendo is always a loud guy, yet it doesn't speak on Ippo's first fight is also something awesome. A 30+ year work can be dissected many times over and over again. Because the artists' soul is clearly there. Great video.
One thing I noticed about anime is that they can make anything fun ..from cooking to tennis baseball basketball American football and even golf xD they always feel more epic than they really are
I usually save these “why you should watch…” videos for when I’ve completed a series and want someone else’s perspective, specifically Eyepatch Wolf’s perspective, on a series(Yu Yu Hakusho being the only other series I hadn’t watched before putting on a “Why you should watch” video which I followed by watching Yu Yu Hakusho). So I decided to watch this video having never watched Hajime No Ippo as I figured I’d never watch the show at all. But after watching this video, in fact after only getting to minute 5 of the video, I’ve decided I’m going to binge the series tonight all night. It just looks like the type of show I’d love. The animation, the story style, the boxing factor, and especially how great Eyepatch makes it look, all of it seems like a real powerful combo of anime attributes that I would love. Thanks again Eyepatch, as I loved Yu Yu, for introducing me to a show I expect to really enjoy, and I’ll let you know my thoughts when I’ve concluded the series.
So to follow up from above I did start watching the show and I’m so thankful I did. Wow what a show! I’m at the climax of the rookie tournament and I’m loving it. It is really wholesome in a really gratifying way. It also has great humour that has had me laughing so loud my wife had to ask what was so funny. Well Ippo is so funny. His social awkwardness is used as such a great gag again and again. I really love it. I’ve also found myself cheering out loud during his matches as they are done so well. And I want to comment on your thoughts that “this was the anime I needed right now” because I feel the same way. I’ve been dealing with some stress that has really had me up at night. I feel so many conflicted emotions regarding the source of this stress from failure to incompetence to frustration at how I’ve been treated, to all sorts of things that have me in a knot. But this show, this anime about a small boxer who does everything he can to overcome these same emotions has me feeling so much better. It has allowed me to forget these issues when I’m feeling my worst. It has me falling asleep when I thought I’d be up all night. It has me at peace which is so powerful in times like these. It’s truly a great anime for any anime lover. Highly highly recommended
I have never laughed harder sober than I did from this show! It inspired me to join boxing and learn discipline in my life. The show does a great job at explaining techniques. My only gripes are the 10 counts lasting up to 3 minutes and how much they think during a match. Your body goes into auto pilot, and you just hope you've trained hard enough for the most part. (The bits about Ippo being hung legit brings me to tears)
This is a wonderful and insightful look into my favorite anime of all time. Hajime no Ippo is a foundational narrative for me. Just watching this video gave me so many warm feelings as I recalled how deeply satisfying and important this series is to me. I haven't watched it in years, but there are so many memories and true emotional connections to it. I think it's about time I watched it again!
I WATCHED THIS VIDEO 5 TIMES AND I LOVE YOU AND IVE LOVED THIS ANIME FOR YRS THE SOUNDTRACKS, FIGHTS, CHARACTERS, EVERYTHING ABOUT THE ANIME IS GODLIKE TO ME
19:22 the fact that you say "portrayed as a superhero" combined with Takamura having the same voice actor as Kiritsugu had an odd layer of irony that made me laugh
It's a celebration of it... (weight of my pride starts) dude I've watched hajime no ippo five times already and you just produced a moment as epic as you can get in the actual anime, congratulations but more than anything else thank you. Just got subscribed to your channel...
I remember first stumbling across this channel with the Teppu video about a year ago. It's interesting how he mentioned Teppu in this video and this was released 6 years ago! Love the content and keep up the good work!
"The overly confident Sendo, who actually feels like he could be the main character of an entirely different boxing anime but it just so happens that he exists in Ippo's world. His fanbase are rabid in a way that Ippo's simply are not. And the subplot about him buying kids a Sega megadrive is endearing as hell." Sendo is actually heavily inspired by Joe from Ashita no Joe who like Sendo is an overly confident and poor, brawler type boxer. The kids you see all the time with Sendo, are also most likely inspired by the kids from Namidabashi who hang out with Joe all the time. And the fanbase of Sendo's is like a more fleshed out version of Joe's fanbase who you don't really get to see from a perspective that's not Joe's. There's actually a lot of cool references and homages to Ashita no Joe in Hajime no Ippo since the mangaka grew up reading a lot of Ashita no Joe when he was younger, like Ricardo Martinez being scarily like a younger Jose Mendoza.
King of Darkness Yeah I can definitely see why you wouldn't like that, but Joe is a bit more nuanced in that he's not REALLY that confident in himself 100% of the time. Both the anime and manga rarely ever outright state he's scared or doubtful of himself, but rather they like to imply it subtly like before both of his matches with Rikiishi, Joe starts to get visibly anxious and lashes out at people around him more easily. Or how before his match with Carlos, Danpei makes it a point to wipe off the cold sweat on Joe's face.
This made me watch all of this a few years ago and seeing it my feed reminded me of the fact, so here's a very belated thank you for opening my eyes to this absolute gem
Takamura saying I want the old man to keep making that goofy face when I win is one of most heart warming scenes in anime.Takamura is like the biggest softie.
I still remember the first scene I saw from this series, it was the last punch between Kimura and Mashiba, I don't remember where nor when I saw that clip nor even how, but I remember saying to myself while watching it "This thing is amazing, what's this anime? I really should get it no matter what". And from that moment, I had a special relationship with this anime, it's the best anime ever FOR ME, it was what I needed and it really helped me resist and grow with Ippo, it is indeed an amazing show, and thanks for this video of course. :)

It may be but hajime no ippo is one of my most favorite anime.
+King of Darkness yeah it's pretty great. I wish it was more popular in western culture. but I read the manga every time it comes out
If a writer is capable of making his protagonist lose then he immediately gets my attention. Tbh when I first saw ippo it was for the sake of humoring a friend. But what got my attention was ep 57. It gave me the chills that I had when I saw ep 9 of jojo. A hero losing is something you don’t see everyday. And as eerie as it might sound. It’s quite refreshing
Then you're really gonna love ch 1200.
Read the manga till chapter 1200+ and you will like it. Lmao

Every time he learned a new technique I was like hey I do that :)
Even a year later I’ve noticed that I managed to maintain my emotional softness(?)/ humility and have been described as “weirdly constructive” during spars
@@pantasticlaire3966 wdym by weirdly constructive?
@@bobofrmbroward5377 they mean he constructs buildings weirdly because he a weird constructor.
Saying Ippo is an anime about boxing, is like saying Rocky is a movie about boxing: both statements might be "correct", but that generalization does an extreme disservice to the story, the characters, the sheer cinematic brilliance of both series. I'm glad you dug deep into this anime.
That's true but the author is a boxing trainer in real life.
Martin Vadakara ...and?
Bonfire Keeper James He implents some real life stuff like Roadwork, shadow boxing, little things like that.
The fights and the training are unrealistic but it does have a little bit of realism.

I love the fact that I enjoy the moments outside of the ring as much as the moments inside it. I never felt like the show lost momentum outside of the action sequences.
Same
The thing that it captured without even meaning to is how important life is outside the ring.

Pragyan wow... again i thought i was the one who wrote this 😅😅. Just caught up to the ongoing manga
It forces you to recognize your flaws and fixes them through grit and friction the same way sandpaper smooths out a rough piece of wood
Never doubt yourself, if you've been tempted to sign up to any kind of martial art don't hesitate to sign up and embrace the amazing journey it will send you on.
Thanks to martial arts I also managed to save a friend of mine indirectly (I used to train him in a few easy ways to defend himself on the street and managed to defend himself against an attacker thanks to that)
Training has given me a lot of value and I definitely would recomend everyone to try them at least once
I like that, but side note. Be wary of fake martial artists.
Couldn't have said it better myself brother

Completely unrelated, but on my way to the supermarket was a dude with headphones, watching some kind of show, I believe. When I was about to pass him, he screamed something about using a "gazelle punch" and the next thing I know is laying on the ground after eating a jab from that random motherf*cker.

Start a legit martial art
i joined a boxing gym and my first months were almost a real life adaptation of the start of this series. except i wasn't nearly as clueless at the start (i had already trained some judo and karate before).

This is a great series that is criminally underrated, with a great story. A nobody that goes from disrespected to a boxing superstar. And that's just Ippo's story. I got a lot of respect for George Morikawa.
The ironic thing about the show lacking Superpowers or people screaming and shooting energy blasts at people is that each punch feels that much more impactful and dramatic well that and the sakuga (learned that term from you :) ) is gorgeous as well
Mr Bleach OPM is by no means trash
Mr Bleach just because it’s a gag doesn’t mean it’s shallow. It’s not even a gag to begin with. SAITAMA is a gag CHARACTER. The show in its entirety isn’t a gag and you don’t have to put down one show to justify another being better

I find it funny that the first face we see when he mentions "negatives" is miyata, cause we all knew it. He's a central villain that barely interacts with the hero, even in the manga
And the funny thing is... that Ippo is such a fangirl of Miyata, haha
he's not so much a villain as a rival who is under utilized
Well, Miyata's also a character who's given all these buffs in order to keep up with Ippo.
honestly ippo's fangirling of Miyata is pretty forced, like i get the author wants to make a sort of Goku/vegeta, naruto/sasuke kind of friendship/rivalry but to do that means you should make the two characters ACTUALLY interact, fight and spend more time together. Those two spent their most time together probably early in the manga, but barely ever again after that.
I mean I get the intent, really. Miyata and Ippo are usually seen observing and commenting on eachothers' matches, and usually have the best insight on them. The problem is their great rematch that was torpedo-ed out of the story
The excuses given are that Miyata's cancellation offended coach Kamogawa, scheduling matches is hard and Miyata's days as a Featherweight are numbered anyway. But Miyata's not moved on to jr. light 300-400 chapters later and no new excuses have been given
Wonder if George-sensei's just buying time to design the jr. light world champ

The mc then has to go through more ups and downs compared to his teammates in order to become a great player and then the ace. it is a slow paced series and the mc will take a long time to become great but it makes sense and the payoff is nice later on.
You cant even compare Hajimme no ippo and joe. Joe is a masterpiece
And here we see Ash from Pokemon having zero development on his Pokemon League progress.
he's finally done it

Wolf: Haikyuu...
Me: oh okay I guess thats it.
Wolf: and Slam Dunk
Me: I was mistaken, this man is on a league of his own
Volg and Sendou are much better rivals than miyata
100% every sendo fight is amazing.
Even Volg and sendo can be main characters in another anime
When first meet sendou I immediately fell in love with his character, and towards the end of the fight I was on the verge of tears.
Honestly miyata was a disappointing forgettable rival
There is more to Miyata then we have seen. He's done most of his growing as a boxer off the screen. There is a reason why they won't let Ippo fight him yet. Volg and Sendou are incredible boxers, and we've really seen them in action, we still really haven't seen Miyata yet. I think if we ever get to seen Miyata get in the ring with Ippo, will see what all the hype has been about.
4 years later and I just want today cheers for introducing me into one of my favourite anime of all time now ✌🏿
21:36 "I'll probably talk more about this manga in a future video" looks like we finally got it
This is my favorite anime of all time
Ex Gaming then why don't you join boxing
I seriously have seen all seasons like 6 times & don't get tired of it, best anime of my interest & love of actual boxing techniques & insights most will never experience.
Where do u watch them

To me Hajime no Ippo is many things (only read the manga),
but it has the basic ingredient a sports manga must have to succeed,
and that's to transmit the desire to practice it (Slam Dunk and Captain Tsubasa come to mind).
It's incredibly humane in a way not many other shonen stories are.
And how there are no real villains, but people with real peoples' problems, insecurities and quirks.
It hit me when Ippo faces Jason Ozma, subverting all possible preconceptions very early in the manga,
and from there on it just gets better (for the most part).
The way Sendo is always a loud guy, yet it doesn't speak on Ippo's first fight is also something awesome.
A 30+ year work can be dissected many times over and over again. Because the artists' soul is clearly there.
Great video.
One thing I noticed about anime is that they can make anything fun ..from cooking to tennis baseball basketball American football and even golf xD they always feel more epic than they really are
Yeah, they're like video games. You're more invested when you're doing it, yourself rather then watching someone else do it.
Wolf ,you rock, your vids made me convert 4 friends who hated manga ,now they can't stop watchings
haha exellent, that makes me pretty happy.

Just got subscribed to your channel...
we need more anime about box/martial arts
I agree.
Watch Kengan ashura
Read holyland.. One of the best
I liked Baki, Megalobox, Kengan Ashura, God of Highschool....
The most intense fighting anime.
This is one of nice quality shows, along with JoJo.
this show is actually one of the best shows i have ever seen thank you so much for making this video
@22:35 when the OST "Weight of my pride" started playing, I knew that you're going to say something awesome... or whatever you say will be awesome 😂
Thank you for the song!
Also when you kept saying Swarma (shawarma?) instead of Sawamura lol.
and tackmura, while should be pronounced as "tack a moo rah"
it frustrated me so much more than it should have
Miyata to "Myata"
I noticed that too, I thought he was saying shawarma and I was thinking "was I getting his name wrong?"
Fairly sure it's due to his accent.
And the subplot about him buying kids a Sega megadrive is endearing as hell."
Sendo is actually heavily inspired by Joe from Ashita no Joe who like Sendo is an overly confident and poor, brawler type boxer.
Amazing comment dude
Thanks, man.
But man I really hate someone that is too confident to themselves.
Or how before his match with Carlos, Danpei makes it a point to wipe off the cold sweat on Joe's face.
there was also a lot of inspiration taken from the Rocky films.
My favorite part about Hajime No Ippo is how much faith Ippo has in his coach.
Hajime no Ippo is one of the greatest animes ever! The characters, fights, music, story and comedy are all fantastic...
this anime is literally my favorite anime.
this gives me life
HIGHLANDER then why dont you join boxing
You should do why you should watch ashita no joe, it heavily inspired this show and is considered a classic in japan.
