I just came back from Tokyo/Kyoto and the Gion District was not as crowded as UTubers have been talking about. Even if it was crowded, so what, you are among other tourists to see the district with the many shops. Tourist areas will always be crowded because non-tourist areas are either commercial or residential areas and not places to see.
Whether on weekdays or weekends, it is always crowded around 5 pm. If you go there around noon, it will be less crowded. This may be because the Gion Area is beautiful one hour before and after sunset.
I love Kyoto but I seek out the places that are less visited by tourists. You can't enjoy Japan when it's crowded.

Is this weekend or weekday? I'll be coming on weekday hopefully not as crowded as this. Last year when I went there it was not as crowded as this.
