G1 1984 was my childhood. I was there at the very beginning. I was at Toys R Us when they got their very first shipment of the toys. Took me an hour to choose between Starscream, Skywarp or Thundercracker. I finally picked Skywarp because purple is my favorite color. Ah, great memories!

The CGI and special effects are really impressive for their time, and Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime to perfection. That man never disappoints. Also, it doesn't matter how many times I see it, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills.

seeing them all transform around sam and mikaela for the first time was like seeing dinosaurs for the first time in jurassic park, it was so incredible!

You nailed it. I was not a Transformers fan, but I couldn't get enough of the fx in the previews. I had to go see it, and it didn't disappoint.
For once, this movie wasn't based off comic books or cartoons. This was based off of the toys first. I'm glad the creators or the studios waited until the CGI caught up to the potential. I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking, "If I were to ever go back in time like Back to the Future, I'd have this movie loaded onto an iPad and freak the 1950's people's minds." The CG in this movie was pretty spectacular.
That ending monologue, the music, everything about it is so nostalgic for me, and I believe for a bunch of other people from my generation as well. Just reminds me of simpler times
And let's not forget that Sam and Mikaela were making out on top of Bumblebee, while Ratchet and Jazz watched.

That cheesy line where he says "more than meets the eye" is a reference to the original cartoons, that was the catch phrase.
Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime since the original 1984 cartoon, said that when he was getting ready to audition and preparing a voice to do, sought advice from his older brother who was a U.S. Marine. His brother told him that true leaders never need to yell or shout. Peter based the voice of Optimus Prime on his older Brother.
As for the quality of the subsequent films? There are some highs and lows, but I would recommend at least the next two. "Revenge of the Fallen" and "Dark of the Moon." They serve as a pretty good Trilogy.
Afterward, Shia Leboef left the franchise, and Mark Walberg became the lead human character. His films are really not great at all. They extend the story past a good ending and are easily skippable.
"Bumblebee," and "Rise of the beasts" serve as prequels, and they are both pretty good as well.
The second film was my favorite out of them all. You should definitely give it a chance. 😉

Transformers 1 is okay, the rest are just a crapfest...Bumblebee is a very good film and then they made the new one and its just a piece of crap but set in the 90's to try and make it feel a little different but same old even without Michael bay...

I will never understand all the hate with these movies. I found them full of action, perfectly casted, and massively entertaining! Exactly what I was expecting when I bought my tickets.
If Mary wants to watch more Transformers, I couldn’t recommended the show Transformers Prime highly enough. Great characters, story, writing, fights and it’s easily the best transformers show to date, and Id regard it as highly as shows like adventure time and teen titans.

I’d say Beast Wars and Animated are way better. Prime doesn’t hold up looking back on it.
Transformers was a GREAT summer popcorn movie! The theater crowd was so much fun. None of the movies rate very high critically (Bumblebee might be the high point), but they all entertained. All of the Transformers movies rank among the loudest I have ever experienced in theaters!

I saw this movie 5 times in the theaters. I saw the 2nd one 6 times, and the 3rd one 7 times.
The OST for this is actually top tier, especially "The All Spark".

Optimus is one of my biggest childhood heroes and it thrills me that you’re reacting to the movies. They’re all so good.
The first one of the Michael Bay has always been my favorite as kid, but Bumblebee was the best of the live action movies.
That is because it wasn't directed by Bay. The director of that movie was a true Transformers fan, and new the source material.

The first time I saw this movie, it was in a theater at the premiere in the Philippines while I was visiting family. Incredible experience. The first time seeing Optimus Prime transform on-screen was breath taking! I was one of the first people to review this movie to the Transformers community back in the U.S. (non-spoiler, course)! Definitely recommend both Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts.
I'll never forget when Prime says "My name is Optimus Prime," the theater went nuts. It was the first time we had heard the original actor reprise this role in over 20 years prior.
This movie was my entire summer 2007: Saw it three times in theaters. I bought every toy, the music soundtrack, the score, and blasted that Linkin Park song on repeat.
Like you said in the beginning, the sequels aren't held in high regard but probably worth watching the second and third to finish Sam's "arc."

12:36 believe it or not, this wasn't added for comedic effect, it's based off of something that actually happened. Michael Bay got the inspiration from a story told by a Navy SEAL, taking place during the 1983 US Invasion of Grenada.
You're right about Optimus Prime being noble. When Peter Cullen came up with the voice for Optimus Prime, he specifically wanted to make it sound wise and noble.
It's a story he's told many times about someone he used to know. I can't remember who it was, but they told him something which resonated ever since his first audition for Optimus. If you're going to be a hero, don't feel you have to shout to seem strong. "Be strong enough to be gentle."
And that's Optimus Prime in a nutshell. Wise, noble, warm and gentle, and in such a way that his inner strength is never in doubt!

My mom took me and my uncle (her youngest brother) to go see this movie in theaters back in summer 2007. (I was 9 years old back then, I turned 10 that fall.)
This movie made me fall in love with the franchise from the start.
(My first introduction to "Transformers" was with the 1986 movie. I do recommend watching that as well.)

Those Movies are just pure nostalgia to me! I was growing up on them and became such a fan of the franchise! Can you believe that next year will be the 40th anniversary of the franchise!

The Transformers all started with a kids cartoon back in 1984. I used to watch the original cartoon all the time, when I was little. Some of my favorites from the original were the Dinobots.

The first 2 times I saw this in the theaters, my eyes were hurting, afterwards. It was only on the third time that I finally figured out what was going on during the battle in the city.

I was really surprised that you never watched Transformers before, but now that you finally are I think you might actually enjoy them. Optimus and,Bumblebee are my 2 favorite characters, and I know you'll come to really like Optimus. He's the true definition of leadership, spirit, strength, and nobility.
One thing I did appreciate about the Bay Transformers: The way the military is portrayed. Even in this first movie, they are able to hold their own against the Deceptions, and as the films progress, they get more and more efficient.
Transformers saga is all about heroism and core values, fighting, living, dying for your friends and home.... DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT.
As someone who saw this movie in theaters I can tell you right now seeing this one was a blast. I remember there being a line of people so long waiting to see it, looking back on it now it was one of the best ones I had seen.
The dude who voices Optimus Prime in these movies has been doing that character since the cartoon show first aired in 1984. Incase you're curious of the actor who voiced the villian Megatron in the original cartoon, was done by Frank Welker - who ALSO did Fred Jones from the original Scooby-Doo show .
It seems like nobody's yet mentioned that _this_ Transformers was a re-imagining of toys and video content going back to the 1980's. Yes, the Saturday morning cartoons were basically half hour commercials for the toys in one sense, but Peter Cullen has been the voice of Optimus Prime for nearly 40 years... and I don't think Maryy is aware of that. Lots of people have mentioned Bumblebee (2018) but I'd love to see what Maryy thinks of The Transformers (1986) too.
The Original Witwicky Trilogy stays unmatched, the Soundtrack, the Cast, everything is perfect + a satisfying Ending in Dark of the Moon 🙏🏼

The voice actor that plays Optimus Prime voices from the 80s cartoon of Transformers. His voice is so amazing for the role. They made a Transformers cartoon movie and they killed off Optimus Prime in the beginning of the movie. The theme song in the cartoon was Transformers More Than Meets the Eye
I saw this the 1st weekend when it came out. when the helicopter started transforming, there were cheers and claps. not for the bad guy, but for the 1st live action transformation on the big screen at the time.
I dunno if anyone else has clued you in Mary. "More than meets the eye." It's not an accident that Sam and Optimus both said it. In the Original Transformers cartoon show... the song chanted "Transformers! More than meets the eye!" So they had Sam stumble awkwardly across that line as a ha ha ha and nodding to the Original Cartoon. Optimus's use of the line was decidedly more deliberate.

The first two Transformers movies give me so much nostalgia I remember watching the first one on opening weekend and was amazing also the when 5th gen Camaro came out that was my dream car

I grew up in the 80s and have always loved transformers. I still have a lot of them. I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and when Optimus transforms I was a kid again.
I recommend the Bumblebee film. It's sort of a reboot of the Transformers franchise set in 1987. Hailee Steinfeld's Charlie Watson and Generation 1 Bumblebee (1971 VW Beetle) have a great character dynamic.

Second was my favorite. Bakudo from Iron fist an defenders is in it an he's hysterical. The humor an character development was better in the second. The reason these movies get a bad rap is because they really pushed a love story in a cartoon adaptation that obv didn't have a romantic angle. I loved the transformers franchise even as a kid in the 80s i still remember the old cartoons and the very first transformers anime film. I am so glad you are enjoying this movie.
Megan Fox is an amazing actress. Before she became famous in Transformers, playing a shallow teenage girl, she appeared in the TV series "Hope & Faith" (2003) where she played a shallow teenage daughter. Such range! But I am looking forward to her upcoming appearance in "The Expendables 4" which will be released next week.
Megan's acting is also worth checking out in the music video, "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem, featuring Rihanna, though its the singers who really sell the song of course.
Having watched the cartoons as a kid, seeing this in theaters at a midnight premiere was amazing. Got chills back then when he said, “my name is Optimus Prime”

In my opinion, I’m all in for a full series reaction up to the reboot on this channel. I think that these movies aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. Sure it has its flaws but I feel like these movies captured the essence of a blockbuster especially back in the day. And it’s also great to see the spike of reaction channels giving these movies a chance. I would like to hear your true opinion on these movies. 👍

Glad to see this reaction to the 2007 movie, the CGI and effects are still ahead of its time, not only that but optimus is voiced by his cartoon voice actor basically the voice of any transformers fan's childhood, if you want more of this i highly recommend you watch the Transformers prime series as the movies it was an important part for the popularity of this franchise without them transformers would've been as popular as it is right now

Ms Cherry! The original cartoon theme song lyrics included the line “Transformers! More than meets they eye!”. Sure- the film was pure eye candy.. but one of the biggest valid criticisms is: the film starred/featured human characters.. and the bots were all essentially supporting characters. And that all of the bots fighting in robot mode looked like a pile of cutlery in a tumble dryer- you couldn’t tell who was who..

I was a big cartoon and toy fan growing up so this movie honestly blew my mind when it came out

"More than meets the eye" has been the Transformer slogan since the cartoon theme song from the '80s.
The strange cop wasn't allied with the decepticons, he was just a weirdo. The evil cop car just had a hologram of a cop driving.
You missed the post credit stuff. Some of it was pretty funny with the family.
"I just imagine if this awful thing happened to us" definitely what makes it a movie a lot of boys love, we fantasize about how badass we would be

As someone that grew up with Transformers and still has a soft spot for the original animated movie, my only gripe with this was that they made the character design too busy, as if they were just flexing their CGI skills, but it made them hard to watch in the theatre (IMO).
The part towards the beginning when Sam said 'There's more to you than meets the eye' is a nod to the classic slogan for Transformers. 'More than meets the eye'
