    For a reason I can't get, watching Jordan's videos makes me Happier and more confident on the long run.
    It's like, a very clever man constantly stands uppon your shoulder and when You're in doubt, shuffles You a kind of "Pshht, You should try looking that direction to get your answers ".
    To make the others Happy, random people use to think you simply have to be kind , But actually, it is scary how much more effective it IS, to simply be relevant and meaningfull.

    At 4:27 he started talking about how in nations that are more gender neutral, individual preferences are more split by gender. Maybe people have a preferred level of gender difference, and if you split them too much, they push toward the center, and if you push them to the center, they push back apart. I see this in my 12 year old daughter. She finds it objectionable that there's girls softball and boys baseball. The ball is physically different, and they pitch differently, and for her that's too much difference. On the other hand, she got a pink calculator for math class and decorated it with fancy stickers. In math class, there's zero difference in curriculum or expectations. Where there was no gender distinction, she added gender identity. She definitely doesn't understand the psychology or sociology of this, especially at her age. Having watched this, and being much older, I see it as people pushing toward the level of difference they instinctively prefer.

    • @Life-Sky
      @Life-Sky 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Also with gender neutrality there changes perspectives on success and money difference: Being a nurse is as good as an engineer and same prestige, so ambitious women no longer need to thrive for other careers that they don't like.

    • @AdeerAxmed
      @AdeerAxmed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So you’re saying if both men and women played one sport like baseball together and were held to the same rules your daughter would then introduce some variable to distinguish them? What would she do about say track and field?

      Ligeia D.Aurevilly absolutely. Testosterone is agreed to be a big reason why most crimes are committed by men. It’s a tool that makes you more likely to roll the dice. Aggression is very useful but it takes an incredibly self-trained person to use properly and will still have some risk in the end.

    You're right, I might have said that differences in career choice among the male and female genders are sociocultural, but I now see that that isn't a possibility because they did a study on how political policies related to gender affected career choice, and specific political policies so completely and accurately represent any given country's entire sociocultural context. Glad that question has been answered.

    There are no conservative psychologists. I say this as a Psychology major.
    The first week in, the lecturers told us to keep our subjective opinions to ourselves when doing a scientific research/observation. Every argument must be objective and supported by facts.

    • @ryanorr4626
      @ryanorr4626 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say it like that, it becomes an interesting mix. You have to be reformist enough to feel the need to start the scientific process, and conservative enough to feel the need to constrain your actions and thoughts to that process' bounds, regardless of circumstance. High openness (left) and conscientiousness (right) at the same time.

    Jordan Peterson literally counted his fingers while naming off 5 personality traits and elaborated around a few of them. Either way, listening to this man definitely challenges the brain as well as promotes conversation analyzation.

    • @Pikachu-vj5jr

      I dont think you comprehend the utility of hand gestures. Jordan didnt count his fingers to account for a lack of mathematical skills, which i assume you are insinuating, but to more fluidly demonstrate scientific findings, making them more easily digestible. This comment in particular annoyed me so much that i decided to write this reply regardless of the massive time gap.

    Never knew how detailed those 'Big 5' personality traits were. For example, Extroversion is different to the term Extrovert. I did a little online test which took around 20 minutes for me. I'm a bit of a slow reader and sometimes I go back over what I've read if the wording of the question seems 'off' =P
    The results for some of it, especially the Extroversion bit, seemed backwards at first. But then reading into it, it made more sense. I'm an Ambivert. It's somewhere in between Intro and Extrovert, and it sort of linked to that. Interesting stuff, however, a lot of those questions are the same bloody thing at the end, just worded a tad different.

    He does not address the question of what creates those "interests".
    My wife is European/Austrian and as an Indian, I was surprised when she told me that girls were suggested to become Psychologists if they could not make the Vet or Doctor entrance exam. And not surprisingly, almost all her female classmates chose something in the line of psychology or later branched to some medical field when they found it boring.
    The teachers seemed to ignore that some people have no specific interests and the goal is to have a nice house with a pool. As an Indian, I found this perplexing since we assume most people have a slight interest in everything. Our teachers suggested to choose a specific niche field only if we were really interested. If not, they told us to chose the one that paid the most. Not surprisingly, most women chose to become bankers, professors or teachers since these are the only ones with okayish pay and no long hours. The ones who did want to earn a lot, ended up choosing IT or Medicine. But this conversation seems to never happen in Europe, even amongst my cousins who grew in UK.

      I'm a woman. When I was 13 or so, I had to choose the subjects I wanted to finish school with. Even though my marks were on the higher end in my class, the principal, who also gave physics, took me apart and told me I would never finish high school if I didn't drop physics (deterrent #1). As it was quite impressive to have your principal tell you you will fail school if you keep a certain subject, and as I had to make the decision alone, being in boarding school, my parents living at the other end off the world, I fell into the trap. I agreed to drop physics, even though it was my favorite subject. Over the summer I managed to visit my parents, discussing it with them, it dawned on me I had made a mistake, having myself been bullied by the principal. So we contacted school. Principal would only allow me to pick up physics again I took it on as additional subject (deterrent #2), which I did. Needlessly to say, I finished school without any problems.

    • @SolomonSunder
      @SolomonSunder 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hamster4618 That thankfully does not happen in India since we do not have too many streams. Till the age of 15, you learn same as everyone. Then for the next 2 years, you choose Arts, Commerce or Science based on your secondary school exams and entrance test results. When you get to choose Science, then you can only skip either Biology or Maths. But you are normally allowed to take both. However, the subjects like Physics, Chemistry are compulsory due to the state setting the syllabus and no principal can skip it.
      Also, we have same exam papers across the state and the answer sheets are checked randomly by some other school. So if a school was bad, it would show in the results. No teacher could just while their time away and grant marks like they do in some European schools.

      @@SolomonSunder in the Netherlands the final exams are countrywide as well. All exams are checked by a second auditor from a different school entirely.
