I stayed in res during the course of my undergrad, I was able to register even though my appeal was still being processed. If you're saying that 2023 was your your N+1 year, then you can no longer appeal, unfortunately. You have exceeded the number of years NSFAS Can fund your studies
Of course you will. Since you'll be appealing, I'm guessing you are placed on probation. You won't be able to register by yourself, but with the assistance of an Academic Development Officer. You'll register manually, and fill in & sign a registration form.

Yes. But to be sure, check on your NSFAS portal because appeal for NSFAS has nothing to do with the university. Even though your funding is dependant on you performing well academically.
did you at least attend counselling? because i am pretty certain you were placed on probation if you failed most of your modules after semester 1. You CANNOT submit an appeal with no supporting document.

Hey Thando what if you had problems but never attended any psychologist or looked for help because with me I am still at home because of that problem and honestly it's not looking good. I failed most of my modules due to family problems between my dad and my mom, they are not divorced but they now live in separate places but that affect me in 2022 since they were having problems which was the result for me not doing my best at school. And I didn't seek clinical help because I was shy to speak about it. Thando please help me tell me what I can do because 2023 I stayed at home and 2024 the same thing happened I don't want to be home 2025. Please assist me.

Hello.... Please don't ever rely on Google when looking for information related to something like this. Rather rely on the NSFAS website. You'll get a ton of information on Google and you'll be confused. Appeals haven't been open yet. I'd HIGHLY SUGGEST that you start working on your appeal immediately and have it ready for submission for when the time comes.

It doesn't matter if you changed a qualification on their side. Since you changed qualifications, you will have to pay by yourself the remaining number of years

You're saying if UKZN didn't exclude you (so you were almost excluded, but your appeal to UKZN was successful - so you never actually had to go home), &you passed 60% of your modules in the 2023 academic year? If this is what you're asking, and I'm assuming you had NSFAS in 2023, then no you won't be defunded. Unless you have exceeded the maximum number of years NSFAS can finance your studies. Let's say you're registered for a qualification that is supposed to completed in 3 years; BA degree for example. If it happens you don't finish in record time, NSFAS gives you one extra year of funding to complete your studies. The "N" represents the number of years your qualification is supposed to be completed in. The "+1" is an extra year of funding if it happens you don't complete your degree in record time. See, the thing with getting registered without paying any registration fee while you're appealing for funding is just a bit confusing, to say the least, to everyone. When I was appealing (2019), I managed to get registered manually (with the assistance of an Academic development officer), and my registration was captured successfully by the college. With funding/finance, the only thing that makes sense to me right now is that they were aware of the students that were to submit appeals to NSFAS, and grant us clearance to get registered because when the appeals get approved, NSFAS makes payments to the university and we'd get our allowances as per usual. Now, listen, it would be very wise of you to not rely on what I told you about what happened to me and not paying registration fees. Contact the fees department, and tell them you're appealing for NSFAS and ask if it would be possible for you to be granted financial clearance without paying registration money.

Honestly speaking, I don't know much about the portal, I never really used it when I was still covered by NSFAS. When I submitted my appeal (Feb 2019), I didn't receive any kind of communication until April, which was when I received an email from student funding telling me that my appeal while was approved. So, for almost 2 months it was quieeeetttt 😶🌫😶🌫😶🌫😶🌫

Hi just wanted to ask after submitting your appeal does the application reflect immediately on your portal or you get an sms or something to show that the application was submitted
I can't say because I don't know much about how the portal really works. I submitted my appeal to the university, at that time we were instructed to submit to the funding office. I never got to see my status or the progress of my appeal. I only received an email in April 2019, saying that my appeal was approved
