  • Senegal's Salt Flats and Brilliant Nature! | Langue de Barbarie | Dhaka to Dakar 47
Finally I have hit Sub-Saharan Africa! Senegal is the country and it's time to EXPLORE! I hit Saint Louis in Northern Senegal and on my first full day there I take an afternoon tour to the bird sanctuary on the Barbary Coast - in French 'Le Langue de Barbarie'.
But on the way we stopped at salt flats to see many scooping up salt and carrying it on their heads, and also a rose lake further up the road. When we hit the sanctuary we took a boat ride around seeing many herons, pelicans and other birds and walked on an island on the Atlantic Coast of Africa.
    A BRILLIANT day!

What a neat thing to see. It’s interesting to see how the people collect the salt and take it away. It reminds me of the dead sea.

Amazing salt flat of Senegal. This is hub for all those lovely birds. Thanks, Andy, for taking us there. These salt flats somehow remind me Kutch of India.

Wow, carrying that salt on their heads is really impressive. Andy, you definitely sound like you know what you are talking about. It's so cool to see how people live everyday that is so different to how we live. The invention made and the culture seen is humbling.

A very special edition indeed. I love the contrast of colours at the salt flats. I'd pass on the birds though!! They look beautiful, but ever since I was attacked by a crow the movie The Birds doesn't seem that far fetched!! Shellfish, lmao

I'm glad someone appreciated my pun! It wasn't really about the birds and none of them attacked us! Thanks for watching!

I've always wanted to see a genuine salt flat like this! It really is outherwordly, it belongs on another planet! That crusty surface and gooey centre, its kind of satisfying really. Amazing that you're exploring this corner of the world to such a degree!

Seems like quite the adventure day! The salt flats were very interesting and the pink pools were cool. We saw some similar ones from a further distance in Bonaire. The boat ride was a nice activity that I would enjoy.
