    The tank has to clear up a little, but all in all I think it turned out really well. As I said in the video I document the my care/maintenance routine from here out to give you an idea of what I do with a tank like this. If you have any additional stocking ideas, let me know!

    I just discovered your channel after giving bonsai another try. I was watching bonsai vids then the algorithm directed me towards one of your terrarium vids. So far I've watched at least 20 lol. You inspired me to give terrariums a go! After purchasing a bunch of stuff to get started I've already completed my 1st being a native San Diego plant enclosed version. All plants collected where I've been hiking lately and creating a scene reminiscent of this oak tree/ boulder drainage that I love. I too have always loved nature, the outdoors, exotic pets, lately photography etc. Anyway, thanks for your awesome content!👊🏼

    • @alan_mythicalgnome
      @alan_mythicalgnome 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Red eyed Tetras are very under rated fishes As are X-ray Tetras. Both have subtle colours that blend well in natural set-ups like this one.

      I actually have like 20-30 Red eye tetras in my 55 and theyre extremely skittish. I've tried making a bigger school and adding hiding places and such to make them more outgoing but as soon as I approach my tank they all dart to cover. I have cherry barbs and corys with them so I'm not sure if I need something more outgoing as a dither but thats my personal experience with red eye tetras. I love watching them feed from 6 feet away but boy are they skittish.

    • @nickjohnson8495

      Red eyed tetras get too large for this tank.

    • @lydiaring9203
      @lydiaring9203 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travmendoza Red eyed tetras are really quite consistent in terms of size, around 2.5-3 inches assuming they're healthy animals. I agree that this is too large for the setup considering their activity level and schooling needs. Something like glowlights, or even bloodfin tetras, would achieve a similar look while staying appropriate for the tank size.

    First off, can I just say how amazingly talented and sightful you are to create all these masterpieces of life!!! Also, wondering that because this is almost a year to the date how this tank is doing. I've had tanks before but have always wanted a fully planted natural aquascape like this. Seeing that you haven't used CO2 for this setup is refreshing as well, because it is an extra I cannot pocket at the moment.

    For catching fish, when I know I'm going to need to, I just use a water bottle with the top cut off and inverted to fit snug. I put a tiny piece of food in it then place it in the tank. The fish swim in but not so easily out. It works especially well with smaller aquariums.

    Tanner, watching you work is visual poetry. Your meticulous attention to detail and encyclopedic knowledge are incredibly gratifying to see in action. Watching you work is mesmerizing, your builds are glorious. I am a paludarium enthusiast, and though I have had a bio-active setup for years by happy accident, I now have the information that I need to make my new build truly perfect for my dart frogs. Thank you for using the specific names of plants and micro-fauna, it makes employing knowledge gained from watching you so much easier for us!

      Kuhli loaches would love this planted setup with tons of places to hide! I loved my Kuhlis. I was only sad that they hide most of the time, but then they come out they always instantly melt my heart :) but perhaps I did something wrong (I kept them a very very long time ago, and I was definitely not an aquarium expert at age 12 yet). Please let me know if you don't have the 'hidden Kuhli problem', and how you got them to be outgoing. Because I'm planning a new aquascape and I'm seriously considering to get some Kuhlis again. But I just want them to be happy!!

    Hey Tanner, I would like to let you that fluval stratum and seachem flourite are not good planted tank substrates. both contain virtually no nUtRiEnTs, flourite is glorified gravel, stratum only makes the water slightly acidic and crumples into a powder very fast. eco-complete is inert but has high cation exchange capacity (cec) so as long as you dose heavily with ec you're fine

And I used Fluval Stratum with EcoComplete Black. This was my only difference. I also used an egg rate down on the bottom. I never could find any videos of anyone using Pagoda Stone. So it's cool to see! Wish i could post a pic of my tank.

    Looks great. Maybe a Galaxy rasbora to add some red to the tank and some mini corys, otos etc.

    I missed what size the aquarium was, but you could put some guppies in for some colour. A snail would also work, unless you have plants they love to eat. Some corydora would also add to the bottom. Panda cory's stay pretty small and tolerate similar temp to danios as far as I know, and have great personality to add to bottom interest. You may be able to put a betta if the tank is big enough so it doesnt get territorial, or maybe some gourami. I think honey gourami are lovely.

    Tanner again such a fantastic tank build . I wish I had extra room for at least a 20 gal. To work with in my small apt. Years ago I had fish , and now I’m wanting to get back into it. Watching your videos are every relaxing and informative. Keep up the fantastic designs , and congratulations on all your well deserved success. 🤗🐠🌱🐟💚

    Galazy Rasbora are my favorite nano fish. It think they'd look great here and go well with other Rasborra's. Another great build, can't wait to move out of my 10 m^2 room and start my own aquarium room!

    Tanner, I absolutely love your vids, you are a true artist. Plus your slow methodical methods of showing every step in the process (plus your production values esp lighting/camera work) are some of what makes you so watchable. But.....
    As a long time tropical, cichlid, salt fish and reef keeper, I feel you leave out some real critical details (from the 3 dozen I've seen, maybe I just missed it). One, it seems some if not most, your tanks, dont have lids. Unless you keep it REAL humid in that room you must hafta add a ALOT of water on an almost daily basis which helps keep water clean as the contaminants precipitate out. As such, I cant believe you dont have an RO or DI. If you do, please comment on system. Two, I've also never seen you even mention a heater. Its difficult to believe you can keep your live stuff (fins and reps) without at least pretty good temp control esp in winter unless you keep your house 75F or more which some people like I guess. Three, as your biological fish waste loads are really low, have you tried a NO filter biological tank? I actually got to where one of my salt fish tanks used nothing but live sand and power heads which reversed direction to mimic tides and had great results. And in your freshwater tanks, I also have seen no comments about adding small power heqads just to keep water moving which is SO, SO critical in almost any setup. Last, re costs. I'm as cheap as anyone and also shop walmart, lowes and home depot clearance racks but please comment on your plant costs. I cant get anywhere near what you get sometimes. It would cost me $150 - $200 just for the plants you use given the wide variety of stuff you come up with. Rest of the hobby materials, you make GREAT use of cheap stuff, find really creative ways to use it. Thanks keep up vids, I actually subscribed which I seldom do.

    Green-striped rasbora, corydoras pygmaeus or habrosus are great nano fishes. For that scape I would personally choose pygmaeus corys, they are good mid water column swimmers and would add a brightness to the water column, that would offset the large amount of dark wood.
