This illustrates perfectly how similar are malls worldwide. So many stores here are identical to ones in the US, UK, etc. But at least in South Korea there are no mass takeover robberies like there are in the US right now.

About 25 years ago, many Koreans must have learnt English after being a middle school student, but they may not have studied it harder, and there was no problem, that they couldn't speak English throughout the whole life. (Now, Korean children must learn English from the 3rd grade.) You might know many English-speaking teenagers quickly give up studying French, especially in Canada. However, after the 1997 Asian financial crisis, everything changed. No more better jobs, without any English skills in South Korea, and many parents started sending their little children to hagwons, as regular schooling was truly not such enough, and now, the related statistics explains, that younger and youngger South Koreans have that similar level of English speaking, with that what Hongkongers usually do.
