- #Fuel prices have gone up relentlessly for the past few weeks and there's no sign of relief. Everyone knows the government is collecting enormous amounts of #taxes that are levied on fuel. But no one is asking this vital question anymore: why aren't petrol and diesel a part of #GST?
In this episode, we answer that question with a small story that starts in 2017, featuring Lord Commander Adarniya Modiji.

The why not start donating 90% of salary to uplift poor and environment conservation ? Keep only what you need for kirana, give away the rest…That would make a better sustainable lifestyle 😂😂

Whether it becomes cheaper or not but if they bring it under GST, we can atleast determine what percentage goes to CGST and SGST, it would be clearly visible that CGST = 260%. and SGST = 50% , and it will put a stop to this whole blame game by Center to states.

There is a thing called cess. Govt shall implement GST on petrol along with cess as in case of automobiles where the total tax is around 45percent (28 percent gst plus surcharge plus tcs etc).
So don't kid youreself. GST ho na ho, prices are not going anywhere. They gonna stay
With all the money collected on fined by the government do they still need to raise the tax on petrol, diesel, cooking gas and cooking oil ?
The amount spent on election propoganda should also be sufficient for the government to clear all dues.

Yes that will reduce fuel price but its one of the main revenue source for the state and as GST already giving them headache, adding Fuel in the list will destroy their way of running the government. Then center will totally control the state. Center government like this will always try to harm opposition ruled states.
Government will change slabs when ever they want. They have the majority in the parliament also. When state agrees on GST, center will just increase the slab

@@jonron3805 cz if government include fuel in GST that will stop revenue for states. Did you forget last year, what center did? they stopped the revenue share of states in the middle of covid. If this money goes directly to the center then they will control the development of states. Where now States have something to earn from

Bring agriculture under Cooperative FPO, Let them have production and retail facilities.
Govt get to levy flat 5% GST on FPO products, just like Amul.
Due to huge quantum of retail gains, farmers will have surplus.
State and Center won't need to spend on subsidies.
Good chance that even petroleum products will be allowed to have lower taxes, owing to quantum coming from cooperative retail sector.
Farmer gets 20/kg on wheat, which is sold at 29/kg-45/kg in retail. If we account processed foods, this number is even higher, a simple chapati in any restaurant takes 10g-15g of flour, which is approx 0.2 rs, add gas, labour and other expense it is 2 rs and sold for 10 rs.
If Coop FPOs operate restaurants, they can easily earn this quantum.
The solution to Indian govt fiscal woes can only come through Agri reforms, especially by making farming cooperatives focused.
Large corporates should be kept out of agri sector at all costs.
Then who will buy electoral bonds?

Unfortunately you have omitted what the GST regime has done to States' tax receipts. That one omitted aspect impacts the final reason for why states charge variable fuel taxes.

Petrol price had gone from 70 to 115
Diesel gone from 60 to 100
How the hell people are purchasing without questioning.
If we pressure government they will definitely find another way to get the revenue.
It's like when you find a student with very less marks we will force them to get good marks....
He will find a way to get good marks like going to tution, studying for extra time.
In the petrol case we are just backing government to get bad marks only,
By compensating by giving more tax.

I think there is a basic flaw in the calculations. The cesses would still apply before the GST. If not, they could have been simply removed even without GST!!
So in the above sample, GST would apply on (44+4+21=) 69/-. 28% on this would take the price to about 88/-.
So while the states would be getting 14% in taxes, the centre will rake in 14% plus any cesses it is currently imposing. Additionally while the states will lose the opportunity to add additional taxes, the centre will remain free to modify the cesses which remains outside the ambit of GST. Finally, the states are often not paid their GST dues on time, this can make life difficult for the opposition ruled states.
OTOH, if the centre removes the cesses, even now the prices will come down to Rs 75 per litre (without GST).
