    Hi Abbey, I just wanted to thank you for your kindness and support in this video. Me too. It would be 4 years TTC in November and I lost 2 pregnancies. :( I am currently reading Dr. Neal Barnard's book on reversing diabetes for my insulin resistance. Slowly going to start moving towards his recommendations as he is an expert in diabetes. Every time I switch my diet around I do ease over as it is not a shock and if something doesn't work, I change it up again. But I don't do any fad diets, just healthy eating. :) I literally been the same weight since October 2018. -_-

IMO as someone who left OA these programs just teach people how to develop eating disorders and beat themselves up more for not eating “sanely”

    As a Type 1 Diabetic, I would love to see you review a type 1's diet and do an in depth dive into the differences between the types and how diet can impact them (or not)! I'm so glad you differentiate between Type 1 and 2 in your videos since they are similar but very different, and they usually get lumped together. Low key sick of hearing people say I can be "cured" through a diet 😂

      That sucks though... You cant cure diabetes... Netheir of them... I am speaking as my younger sister has type 1 (somewhat of a struggle with cravins but we all eat what she eats which made our diet even more healthy, no extreme oily foods... I developed a certain nausea to foods that have too much oil) and then my uncle had type 2 and he had to take pills to keep everything in check... Which it didn't and it almost made him blind.
      So yeah.. I don't have it and didn't study it but my sister does and everything I know about diabetes os because of her. I would have my blood boil if some ignorant idiot told me a diet can cure diabetes... If that was possible no one would have diabetes.

    I have a question about metabolic health vs weight. I want to emphasize this is not about Sierra, but rather a general question. (I love Sierra!) I totally understand that metabolic markers can be normal for an overweight person (especially since BMI isn't the perfect tool to assess appropriate weights at the individual as opposed to the population level). However, I'm curious about when you have a high weight and body fat % compared to bone structure for a prolonged period of time. Don't these metabolic markers catch up? I'm not talking about people that are "a few pounds overweight," or anything, particularly because of the huge variability person to person. I'm referencing when you enter the classification of clinically obese. I hear a lot of these metabolically healthy anecdotes and just wonder how that persists over time. Thanks in advance if you're able to answer!

    • @lauramolina3337
      @lauramolina3337 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!! Agree, I find that so confusing.

    • @AbbeysKitchen
      @AbbeysKitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      So it’s not a straight answer. There is no question that being clinically obese puts one at HIGHER RISK for their metabolic markers to be off. But we also know thin ppl also get high blood sugar/ cholesterol etc. And look at me, I have PCOS! So it’s def a risk factor but not an absolute death sentence. What seems to be more important in these situations is the behaviours the person engages in. Are they exercising? Are they eating a balanced diet ? Etc.

    • @rannpnut7681
      @rannpnut7681 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      People who are underweight can also be at risk for these metabolic markers too.

    • @Tazzie1312
      @Tazzie1312 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The other thing is, stastistically, major weight loss does not work. Period. And restricting is way more unhealthy, period. So even if a person is at a higher risk factor for certain things (and what's the actual number, what does it actually mean)... is it better to do something we KNOW is dangerous and unhealthy in an attempt to make someone a stastical anomoly? How?

    • @AMortalDothApproach
      @AMortalDothApproach 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Google 'metabically healthy obesity' - you can find a bunch of academic medical papers about it. It seems like MHO is temporary, the stage between becoming obese and developing metabolic disease. See "Separate and combined associations of obesity and metabolic health with coronary heart disease: a pan-European case-cohort analysis" (Lassale 2008), a very large longitudinal study, for reference.

    This video made me cry, because I have struggled so much to love my body when it isn't working how I want it to. One of the biggest helps in my own body struggles was talking to health professionals who would approach my body issues in a kind and respectful manner. I'll never forget my last surgeon telling me how what we see in a person is such a tiny fraction of what is going on in their body.
    It broke my heart to watch her talk about people judging her based on how she looks. It doesn't matter if you have a medical condition, you don't owe the world beauty. You also don't owe the world perfect health, but you deserve to be treated with respect at every stage of your life.

      C'mon... I mean it's a fact that overweight people get body-shamed A LOT. When do you see slim/toned people get body-shamed (unless they're maybe having problematic eating patterns)?

    • @SkySky-vu4cz
      @SkySky-vu4cz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ella L. People who are thinner still get body shamed, whether it’s very common or not. Im sure you’ve heard how people who are thin have been told that they’re TOO thin or that they should gain weight because they don’t look healthy. Body shaming is a two way street and isn’t specifically for one size. However, my point for saying that was to treat people equally. If you’re gonna take the time to tell people not to body shame one person, then do it for every other person too. By stating that for only people who are overweight, means that there is something to be ashamed of when there’s not. Every person is beautiful and shouldn’t be ashamed of their body no matter their size. I didn’t say that to put Abby down or cause an issue, I said it so everyone can be treated equally. Telling people to not body shame one another is an amazing message for people to hear and should be said more often and for everyone of every size.

    Hi Abbey - I realize that the portion sizes for each person differ based on different factors. However, many of these “what I eat in a day” videos (especially this one) feel like not enough food to me. For example, breakfast was so light on some days and then lunch seemed like to was too light to follow such a small breakfast. This is obviously my own opinion but do recommend portion sizes like the ones on this video as normal for most? Am I eating too much?

There was a lot of good stuff in the video but I down voted due to my own trigger but I did watch till the end. I mean Abby usually gives a quick word about eating disorders in videos, so why couldn't there be a quick one in here for miscarriages? I mean PCOS doesn't automatically translates to that.

    One of my favorite things Sierra does is a collab with Lisbug and compare clothing store sizes. Lisa is very petite, so having them show off how the sizing is wonky at both ends is so refreshing and makes me feel better about shopping. They could buy the exact same dress from the same store, in the correct sizes and it might be tight on Sierra and huge on Lisa, which makes no sense and further exasperates body image issues.

    • @solevazquezmaria
      @solevazquezmaria 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the same vein, I loved the "trying on size 12 jeans in different stores" because it was evident that "being" a size is BS as this varies from store to store. Even in the same store, you could try different styles of jeans and one might fit and the other be too big or too small.

    Sierra is a youtube favorite of mine, been watching her for eons!
    I relate to her on a PCOS level and on a "I hate my body not working" level.
    I gained tons of weight due to chronic illness and PCOS and then lost a ton for other illness related reasons and the people commenting on my body shape and size would drag me down. Even my own doctor at one point. "You've lost a lot of weight, I think you look better." Well, thanks, jackass. I'm glad my being sick makes my body more socially acceptable to you.
    It's painful, it sucks, it hurts. But Sierra has helped me learn to do the best that I can, know I'm doing my best, and love me for who I am. She is truly inspiring.

    I am here to say that in some mental diseases smoking is the least of your problems. Sometimes it feels that people are not allowed to judge almost anyone anymore, but us smokers. Nicotine affect the brain but not always in a negative way, it does help control bipolar mood swings and anxiety. It is my drug of last resort when medication, therapy, exercise and routine aren't working. Exercise and routine were severely disrupted by the pandemic, so eventually something had to give. Abby, you are so non judgmental generally so I thought it merited some information.
    That's why some people have such a hard time quitting, they are unwittingly treating an underlying condition with nicotine. I managed to quit only after I got my bipolar under control, but it is an ongoing struggle on both fronts.

There is a famous “nutrition” UK show called “supersize versus super skinny” in which they pair a bigger person with a smaller person and have them eat each other’s typical meals hoping it will shock them into fixing their nutrition 🙄 It is -I think- a terrible show in terms of nutritional advice, very fat-shaming, and honestly quite triggering. I understand why you don't like that she said it. But this type of video invites trolls. I love Sierra and all evidence is that she lives an super healthy lifestyle. But people make judgements about health based on appearance. Sierra has even recently commented about how people leave comments that her PCOS and infertility is her fault because of her weight. Given the focus of this video around fertility and PCOS I understand why Abbey made a point to say that.
      Also, Abbey also had special disclaimers for Dr. Dray (a very thin woman) to also be kind.

    I absolutely love you Abbey, but this intro made me feel a little less than great. Body shaming happens to women of all shapes, but I noticed you only prefaced “no body shaming” for a woman in a (slightly) larger body. You atypically review thin women, and that’s fine, but you didn’t give the same pretext. Giving extra attention to shape in this way feels like you are saying Sierra’s body is “shamable” but it’s wrong to do so. I feel like it would be more body positive to ensure no one body shames anyone you review no matter their body size or shape. Love your vids, but I do hope this is something you consider as a large part of your viewership is coming to you having been very body conscious and or having an ED :)

    I would going to say as someone with PCOS that soy has not been a negative at all for me. The complex carb with a protein rec is good. Eating 6x a day is not. In fact intermittent fasting or even OMAD is. I hate to be team restriction but I get why Victoria Beckham’s approach to her PCOS works for her. Oh… and when you lean toward having a bit many male hormones… use it to your advantage by having more muscle mass because muscle burns more calories at rest. I strength train quite a bit.

    Nice video! As someone with PCOS who recently managed to balance out my hormonal lvls (high testostorone) its interesting to watch :)! I'm just a bit confused on why the RD recommended to stop taking Soy because of the effects it could have on Sierra's hormones, but then recommended an animal based milk which always have hormones in them? I know Goat milk has less estrogen then normal milk, but it still is real hormones and for protein I would think to recommend something like flaxseed milk which is high in protein and calcium and not packed with hormones? Just found that very odd in that context. But love the other tips, I'm glad Sierra found a RD that thinks realistically and takes things slow! I personally managed to help my insulin resistance and fix (for now) my hormonal lvls by eating more healthy fats from seeds and nuts, getting rid of animal based milks and soy milk (but do eat tofu now and then!), drinking tea instead like mint but 100% focusing on protein! I was also so shocked to finally feel full after meals?! sadly its summer so my binging is starting again cause of the crazy heat, but I've also started shaming myself less for eating more or snacking (BED recovery) and not minding the scale too much, and have noticed a difference in energy aswell. I really hope Sierra keeps on going and keeps getting better, because it really feels great :D

For example, a friend of mine used to work at a chocolate store and she always had jokes made to her by customers about her never eating the product (which she did) and things like that. Body shaming is body shaming no matter what the body looks like.

    I was told i don'thave gastritis but the bile begs to differ... I am 29 years old and don't want to stop being active. I hate how my body is changing and need to know what sources are out there. Thanks and right now I have a lot of reworking of my already reworked dietary intake to have a retake on. It's quite messy. Who else is dealing with this? I'd love your input!

    Basically praising youtubers who eat a lot because either they can actually eat a lot and stay in shape or they don't give a shit and eat how much they want. But she always has a problem with those trying to consume less calories and improve their body. How dieting is a problem , I don't get it.

    I’ve been really confused about diet w/ PCOS. Alot of people say to go gluten & dairy free. I’d like to have your take on that!

    I couldn’t click on this fast enough. I adore both of your channels. I love adding hemp seeds/chia to my yogurt. I love the added crunch that granola. I would love to a granola recipe from you Abbey. I loved your cherry chia seed jam and I put it in my yogurt!
    Also that dress is lovely. I love women supporting women.

    LOVE the PCOS content! There's so much conflicting information so I appreciate your evidence based approach, the last video you made on it was super helpful! Also.. if shes not already on your list could you review Stephanie Macedo? She's all about calorie deficits for weight loss but she seems like she eats pretty balanced. Would love to hear your review(: Thanks for all you do!

    I've seen a bit of Sierra's content. I hope things work out for her because she really wants to be a mom. Edit: I am enjoying the love you are sending for full fat dairy. I live for my dairy lol.

    Thank you for doing this video! I did not think you would really do it after my recommendation because she didn't have the traditional what I eat in a day. I'm very impressed by the research you did to give a full review!

    I love watching the what I eat in day videos! I think it would be really cool to see your take on Dana Linn Bailey's what I eat in a day or her husband's full day of eating for a vegan bodybuilder.

    So I don't think she has a TH-cam, but there is a chick on Instagram DiaryOfAShrinkingMommy who has a weightloss account and does the carnivore keto diet. Honestly is grosses me out with how much meat she eats, like homemade steak tartar with a raw egg yolk. I think It was be fascinating to watch this and learn from you about that much protein, fat, and cholesterol AND raw food.
