    Carved out a real niche as the photogrammetry guy on TH-cam for me. Great content

    Total newb here, do you have a step-by-step video for someone wanting to get into photogrammetry? Which software to use, what the uploading & rendering process is like, etc. I'm literally starting from 0 knowledge. Thanks!

      Hey Marshall. I have a photogrammetry playlist on my profile page where I’m going through the photogrammetry workflow and tools so make sure to visit that.
      The two videos that will help you the most are these two
      Apple's impressive entry in to photogrammetry: Object Capture API

      Photogrammetry: The next steps after scanning (retopology and texture maps)

    Would you recommend using a color chart?

    • @marvelousdecay
      @marvelousdecay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be the proper way yes, but if that's going to bog you down don't worry about it. A lot of the colouring issues can be fixed in post so don't fuss too much about it!

    What's your recommended workflow for capturing outdoor spaces and generating 3D assets from them?
    I'm considering an iPhone so that i can just capture something good enough for import to Unreal, whenever I come across it, without having to lug around specialty equipment. I don't need 'THE BEST' quality assets using cross polarization filters etc... but they do need to be better than e.g. previz/concept art quality.
    Can't find any other content on this specifically. Your thoughts on the current best practice would be valuable! Especially now that you've done videos on iPhone 14 and its various apps. Thanks!

      To be clear, this is specifically about low effort, high reward, good enough quality for storytelling. No turntables, polarizers, heavy equipment. Shooting from the hip pocket, any time. Maybe some desktop processing.

      I would say for ease of use you could use an iPhone on a cloudy day. No other equipment needed. Just make sure to shoot everything RAW (not Camera app's ProRAW) and when you go back home you can process everything on the desktop. You could use Polycam for a completely mobile solution but you will get better quality assets from other third party apps. Have a look at this video where I'm comparing Polycam to other photogrammetry apps: th-cam.com/video/IuaWCfNpTlg/w-d-xo.html

      @@marvelousdecay Thanks Dimitris. Yes, just doing some tests now with different desktop photogrammetry apps. Your pick?

      @@marvelousdecay I am wondering if you will look at the supposedly upgraded LiDAR sensor in the iPhone 15 Pro, and the larger 1 inch camera sensor in the Xiaomi 13 Ultra - curious if that larger sensor will make an appreciable improvement to which becomes the better platform for generating 3D models?

    great video. any recommendations for getting really good scans say for a sneaker maybe. Not really sure which camera to get for getting really small details.

    • @marvelousdecay
      @marvelousdecay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To capture more details you usually need more photos. So once you’re done with the wide shots of the shoe go closer with the camera and shoot all the details of the shoe. If you have a 50mm lens and above you’ll do great but even if you don’t just experiment more with the lens you have. I bet you’ll do fine with what you already have!

      @@marvelousdecay Thanks for the speedy reply. I actually dont have a camera (yet) so im looking to get one and thanks for the heads up about the 50mm lens. Definitely will get one.

    What is your favorite most liked photogrammetry software and why?

    • @marvelousdecay
      @marvelousdecay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm using the desktop version of the photocatch app. Unfortunately it's Mac only but there's a reason for it. It's using Apple's SDK to do all the calculations.
      I like it because it's super simple and you're not bogged down by tons of options. It's fast and if you shoot things correctly there's no way you're gonna get any bad results.
      Aside from that though, any photogrammetry app nowadays is good. You just can't get bad results! :D So whatever app you choose you're golden!
