Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. If we played them ten times they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight we stay with them, and we shut them down because we can! You were born to be hockey players, every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. Their time, is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em! This is your time! Now go out there and take it.
@@Catinkontti wow, what a speech. I listen to it and mentally insert the names of the toughest competition in my sport (dog obedience trials), and love to hear "You were born to it." After so many years of other hobbies, I have done this hobby for ten years, and this is what I love to do. Some have told me that my Aspergers probably helped me be a better than average competition obedience trainer. I don't know about that, but as I sit here in my computer room, I am almost surrounded by hundreds of ribbons on two walls and trophies and AKC acknowledgements of our accomplishments and win pictures on the walls, maybe people were correct in that assessment. Yet, at the same time, BECAUSE of my Aspergers, I was turned down as a student by some instructors. The ones that accepted me as an obedience trial trainer turned out to be absolutely superb in helping me bring me and my dog as an obedience team unforeseen (by me, mostly) heights. Listening to thrilling sport movie music has been a huge help, by the way.
I'm going to be baptized tomorrow I'm 32 years old this is my second time being baptized and I can't stop listening to this song and so much better now under Jesus
I know this gives away my age, but I remember the day it happened. Hockey does not usually turn me on, but this was special, especially when I learned the backstory.
I had this song stuck in my head when the Seattle Mariners clinched their first playoff spot in 21 years ending the longest active drought in American sports.
The real reason why we won, lays with this man right here. Herbert Paul Brooks Jr. (August 5, 1937 - August 11, 2003) was an American ice hockey player and coach. His most notable achievement came in 1980 as head coach of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic team at Lake Placid. At the Games, Brooks' American team upset the heavily favored Soviet team in a match that came to be known as the "Miracle on Ice." Brooks also coached multiple National Hockey League (NHL) teams, as well as the French team at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He ultimately returned to coach the U.S. men's team to a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brooks died in a car accident in 2003. At the time of his death, he was the director of player personnel for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brooks was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1999. He was honored posthumously with the Wayne Gretzky International Award in 2004 and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006. That's leadership . Poetry in motion. Skate on coach.

Amazing speech😍🙌❤
This speech gives me chills every time I hear it.
One of the greatest speeches in movie history. Or maybe the greatest.
After he says “and we shut them down because we can” he says “tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.” Add that in if you can.
Ah, nostalgia! Best sports movie ever made!
Who else here has insane chills?
