    1. R×e7+, K×e7 (not definitely Kd8 because Q×f8#)
    2. Nd5+
    If Kd8 then Q×f8+ and after Kd7, Qe7#
    So Kd7 or Ke8.
    But in both cases, Nf6+ is winning as black king has d8 the only safe square. Then Q×f8+, followed by black Q(h5)e8 and finally Q(f8)×e8#

  • @batfang5583

    I see a few responses to the puzzle that start with Rxe7+. I think better is:
    1 Nd5 to be followed by Rxe7+. Black can't prevent it since both the knight and bishop are pinned. If the black queen tries to protect the knight with Qh7 or Qxg5 then obviously white just captures with the queen. If 1 ... Qf7 then 2 Rxe7+ forces Kd8 then 3 Rxf6. Or 2 ... Qxe8 3 Nxe8 Kxe8 and white trades the knights and trades the rook for the queen. If 1 ... Kd7 then 2 Nf6+ forking the queen. 2 ... Kd8 leads to 3 Qxf8+ Qe8 4 Qxe8 #. If 2 ... Kc6 then 3 Qc4 removing the queen from the attack by the black knight, then 3 ... Kb6 4 Nxh5. Going back, if 1 ... Kd8 then 2 Rxe7 threatening 3 Qxf8+ Qe8 4 Qxe#. So after 1 Nd5 Kd8 2 Rxe7 then black must play 2 ... Qe8, followed by 3 Rxe8 Kxe8 and white has gotten back the extra piece and traded the rook for the queen. If 1 ... Be6 blocking the rook then 2 Nf6+ again forking the queen. 2 ... Kd8 3 Qxf+ Qe8 4 Qxe8#. Actually as I look at it, if 1 ... Qf7 then 2 Nf6+. If 2 ... Kd8 then 3 Qxf7. If 2 ... Qxf6 then gxf6 and white again wins the queen. In all scenarios white has two passed pawns, possibly connected. Yes, I think 1 Nd5 is the correct solution.
    Suren, sir, what think you of the idea of posting the solution to the previous puzzles when you post new videos?

    • @Arumenuyama
      @Arumenuyama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You did such a large analysis that I even feel sorry to disappoint You, but...
      1. ...Qg4+. And how is white gonna escape a permanent check without even losing the game? That’s why forced moves are the way to go...

    • @batfang5583
      @batfang5583 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Arumenuyama Have to admit I missed that one. Black will get a perpetual and possibly pick up the rook.

    • @Arumenuyama
      @Arumenuyama 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bat Fang Well, Black won’t pick a rook, but will sure get a perpetual.
      Nevertheless, You still did an excellent work analysing all other lines!
      But, most of the time, forcing moves are the solution. Of course, there are exceptions, and finding that kind of winning moves (subtle, non-forcing) is often harder...

      Thanks Warrior. Good solution. I was wondering what happens after the black queen interposes on e8. I like your rook-winning continuation. And once the rook is gone black can't even win the trapped knight. The g and h pawns are much too strong.

    • @Arumenuyama
      @Arumenuyama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Martin Guerre Thank You!
      Right, even winning the knight won’t help black, 2 connected passed pawns would be unstoppable.

    • @batfang5583
      @batfang5583 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually white doesn't win the rook because of the initial exchange sacrifice, but does regain the downed piece. I think the first move is Nd5 to be followed by Rxe7+. Posting a separate reply.

    • @Arumenuyama
      @Arumenuyama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bat Fang I didn’t say anything about white being a full rook up, but it’s a piece + 2 connected passed pawns that would seal a deal...
      Nd5 doesn’t look forcing enough for me. Yeah, probably it’s still good enough, white is better, but some moves like Be6 or Qf7 can at least prolong the game and need deeper analysis, while Rxe7+ is a forced quick victory.

    • @batfang5583
      @batfang5583 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Arumenuyama See my separate post where I analyze all combinations including Be6, where 2 Nf6+ will lead to a forced mate. It goes like so: 1 Nd5 Be6 2 Nf6+ Kd8 3 Qxf8+ Qe8 4 Qxe8#. I also analyze 1 ... Qf7 2 Nf6+. If 2 ... Kd8 then 3 Qxf7 or if 2 ... Qxf6 then 3 gxf6, in either case winning the queen. There is also an analysis of Rxe7+ after Qf7 where white comes out better but I added the 2 Nf6+ at the end after another look as it's much better.

    If: Kxe7
    Then: 2) Nd5+
    If: Kd7/Ke8
    Then: 3) Nf6+ royal fork Ke7 (Kd8: 4) Qxf8+ Qe8 5) Qxe8#) 4) Nxh5 and White is up a Queen and Black king is very vulnerable
    If: Kd8
    Then: 3) Nf6 and Black Queen is trapped that is, it has no safe square
