It was such a tragedy when Eddie died in an auto accident in Feb 2011. He was a consummate bluesman, a true ambassador and practitioner of the blues. I first saw him perform live in the twilight of his career, in a smallish pub in Camden, SC, during that town's annual Downhome Blues Festival. Playing to a mesmerized, standing room only crowd of less than 200 people, he put on a master class - warm, honest, down to the bone blues.
I was so fortunate to play this song with Eddie at Cherries Cafe' in Farmington, Maine. He was recovering from an illness and preparing to go back on tour. One of the greatest music-events of my life.
When was that? I saw him at the Nostalgia Tavern in Kingfield. I seem to recall he had just had heart surgery or something; like he still had bandages and stitches. Can't for the life of me remember when that was. Cherries Cafe? Don't remember that place. I was born in Farmington...
+Eric Rutberg I played with him in Fayetteville NC.. they had double booked him and I was hosting a big Blues Jam night there that night.. we shared the stage and we gave him our pay.. What a great old Blues Man .. I used to perform in Atlanta and I met him there for the first time..
First time I ever saw Eddie, he sat down at a table next to me in downtown Detroit ( Greektown)…didn’t know him until he was introduced and went and played……..seen him at another club, knew who he was then…….watched him pack his equipment in a white and brown station wagon and drive down Michigan…him and his girlfriend……my memories.
Eddie was a prince of a guy, loved working with him. Quick little story, I think it was November of 2010, and we were backing him up at a club in Mobile Alabama. Standing room only, and Eddie was kicking it all night. We were supposed to end at 1am, but 87 year old looked over at my 21 year old guitarist and said, Youngblood, you think you could play another hour? :D Never will forget that.
I did not know that you died in an auto accident Eddie Kirkland! I am so sad to hear this.. I thank my lucky stars that we jammed in 2010 in fayetteville NC Baby ! RIP my Blues Brother
What a legend!!! Jimi Hendrix used to listen a lot to Eddie Kirkland as a kid and he admired him a lot. RIP LEGENDS

So much to love here! Eddie's duct-taped guitar strap, that wild wig, the cutie-pie on guitar, the wonderful, unforgettable Eddie Kirkland live!
