Yeah, but In my opinion, corn snakes are more active, and kind of... cheerful? I don't know how else to describe it, but I think it would help you cheer up more, again it's only my opinion.
I agree my friends corn snake is always running away you can’t do anything but handle you’re corn snake wen you own a corn snake but ball pythons “adults” are able to just chill and they hold on to you while you play video games or something
I got a corn snake cus I wanted an active snake and she is perfect, strikes for every feed even when she is in shed and she is really active for handling which is what appealed to me compared to a royal 🖤
Sounds like a lot of work ball pythons are better because there less active you can play video games or go for a walk with you’re ball python corn snakes are always running away also less feeding means it’s less expensive and less work it’s not “usually” bad if a ball python doesn’t feel like eating.
@@jamesfrederick. things i like about cornsnakes is that they dont go on hunger strike unlike ball pythons..and its not that corn snakes a running away from the owner but more of a exploring more of their surroundings..and they dont bite if it's feeding time..based on my experience..
I have both, my corn snake enclosure is in the living room, there so active its fun to watch. I would say if your wanting aesthetically pleasing and active go with the corn, we keep our ball python in our bedroom, i enjoy bp's because there so calm. So get both and enjoy the best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing Chris.. Very beautiful corn. 👌👍
Yea, I botched this video, they are constrictors, and that's not a blood red like the pet store said! I learn so much from these comments it's amazing. It was a fun video to make though!
As mine has grown she has started to constrict more! I have always tongue fed and she strikes rather than just taking it gently like I know some do, but as she gets bigger she has started wrapping which is amazing to watch. TH-cam has been an amazing resource, in terms of deciding my first snake, learning about genetics, and selecting possible future scale babies. I love royals (ball pythons) to look at, but colubrids seem much more appealing to me as a pet directly. I think it is really interesting to note the difference in their requirements. The tubs that many people keep royals in would be out right cruel for an active species like a corn as they will climb, dig, and explore every inch you give them! One day (when I have the space) I would like to own a BCI and I am considering whether a royal would be a good intermediate step... What do you think? Is it necessary to own a python before getting something like a BCI?
That Corn Snake is HUGE! I am a beginner with Ball Pythons. I love them and after this seeing this Corn Snake, I am considering a Corn Snake also. I love snakes!
Go for it..i have 2 already and im planning to get another 1 again..they're the exploring type of snake that moves a lot cause theyre curios..very friendly too..
Hey bud.... you are a pleasure to listen to. You are well informed, intelligent and also pretty cool. It's not hard to spot a kind person and I like the way you explain things. Thank you.
Another great video! I love the look of corn snakes and never hear anything negative about them other than they are escape artists... I love how you made the comparison with cats and dogs... I love and have them both but some people prefer to own one or the other. I think you hit the nail on the head by saying a person that isn’t used to handling snakes might be more apprehensive with the corn snakes activity; that’s me. I think my son is fine with it but at 9 yrs old I am the one that needs to oversee the care. I’m still leaning towards a ball python as a first snake, probably a male because I’m not looking for a large snake and plan to have him for his lifetime. So glad I found your channel, it’s really a helpful part of research for a person who just wants a snake as a pet as well as those interested in getting into the breeding hobby! Much appreciated
Hello Chris, I have a 5 foot long 13 year old corn snake. They are definitely constrictors!! I feed frozen thawed mice and wiggle it around. She strikes and constricts it before eating. She thinks she's killing it because I will continue pulling on it til she thinks it's dead!! Snake enrichment! Just an fyi. I love my corn!!😃💞
I have three corns a female motley, males annery and butter het motley and they are right characters. They make escape attempts at any opportunities. They are good for snake massage.
He is gorgeous. My first snake, back in the 70s when I was in grade school, was a king snake. Now my son has one as his first snake. They are still my favorite, but that Corn is so cool, plus of course the variety in bp are just amazing.
While deciding which snake to get I went with the corn snake because I'm not quite sure how I would handle my snake not eating. I figure I could get the corn snake first and if I were to get a ball python in the future if it doesn't eat I'll just give to the corn snake.
I havent had snakes for twenty years and am starting again . Ive looked at everything and settled on garters. The main reasons: low temp not alot of heating , easy food worms fish pinkys, and lastlymost important can house them together,oh and i forgot the are active and during the day . Problem is they are common just outside on the ground so there are few keepers. I have found some cal red side ,expensive and somewhat hard to find (captive bread). Going to.set up a community nice display with a few different color ones im very much looking forward to starting with snakes again . Like your videos ,alot of good information, and like that you always have something around your neck.
I've seen a lot of breeders on TH-cam they use clear tubs instead of the opaque ones I like you me personally I don't have a rack but I used the clear tubs for my ball pythons but I have a bunch of hides in their four them
I believe it's preference, exposure, up-bringing, individual snake personality, etc. I've always loved snakes, especially as a child; I'd catch them bare-handed. I've grown-up in Colorado having hardly any snakes at all to see in the wild to living in N.C. for 5 years, having an abundance on the daily, I could've picked up a venomous snake without realizing. 😬 Anyway, I'm 28 and just got my first 5 year-old cornsnake last December, let me say, SUCH SOCIAL SWEET BABIES. Cornelius LOVES to hang tight around my neck, explore, give nose boops, etc. Great for the inexperienced all time snake lovers! I have a ball python and she's a lot harder to feed, gets moody real easily, etc. She tried striking me a few times at first as a baby, but the more you handle them carefully, they adjust. They're definitely slower, but tend to get a lot more head-shy, are a struggle to feed because they're a lot more finicky, so I'd say probably for the more patient handler. All in all, do research, meet and greet a snake first by handling them and see their personality first hand before adopting/buying. Someone who has a fear however, wants to love and own one, I definitely suggest corn snakes them more so than your average dog, I've been bitten and had more painful/damaging bites by them more so than snakes. I have seven snakes now and they bring so much excitement for me! 🥰 Also, another thing to remember: If you can't handle feeding live/dead rodents, it's not for the faint of heart. Thank you Chris for showing your beautiful baby and informative talk, I'll never stop learning and loving these magnificent creatures! ❤️❤️❤️ P.S. Sand Boas are great too!!! Super docile and low maintenance!
I have 2 cornsnakes and i can describe them as the cheerful-friendly snake..yes they move a lot when you handle them and i guess that helps you overcome the fear of snakes because their movement will lead you to understand snake movements..theyre very small that the hatchling is like a pencil compared to ball pythons that hatchlings look bulky already..
Nice vid updates??? I just adopted two albino cornsnakes! 6 to maybe 7 years old. One is like a candy cane coloration and the other pure white with citrus Lemon markings. How is yours doing?
I just got my first baby corn from the smart pet store … it’s too small I was told it eats pinkies every Wednesday it loves climbing on her tank but I swear it’s thinner in girth than my pinkie finger
I have a rescue corn snake that was found in a pub cellar, she’s brilliant but very nervous and tends to poop when handling, in the middle of working with her to tame her down and she’s doing good, but that’s the only thing I’m not a fan of 😂
Hi Chris That is 1 big corn I kept corns many years back then it seemed over in the UK that was the more popular snake in my opinion but now everyone seems to have BP I’ve a BP for about 5 months now in my opinion they are a bit more chilled anyway mate really enjoying your videos all the best. Ted...
Awesome corn snake Chris, the only reason I stick to pythons is because colubrids pee and poop and release their sent on you often and I can't stand that. I've never had one of my ball pythons so much as pee on me so to me it's a no brainer. It seems like ball pythons are just perfect all around, smaller snakes like colubrids pee and poop on you, ball pythons not so much, then you get to the giant snakes like retics and its back to pissing all over as soon as you take them out of their enclosure. Am I the only one who's noticed this?
eddie julian Lol, it’s pretty much the same, up to the individual animal. Neither my corn nor my bp have ever “released” on me but I’m a part of a bunch of groups online and it really seems to be even odds
Great looking corn! I have one slight larger that eats medium rats. Yours is no 'bloodred' though. Bloodred is a gene that slowly removes the pattern. At that age yours should have no pattern at all. It is a great looking normal.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures I have a similar looking girl you most likely have a Okeetee Redcoat, you can research them and see if you see the resemblance
Congratulations on the new snake! He is beautiful! I'm still very much on the fence about if I want a snake or not but it will probably be a few years before I have the room and such. I originally was not very interested in the idea of a ball python due to how picky they can get with food. And with corn snakes, for me personally, they seem too squirrely and I am not sure I could handle that because I have never owned a snake before. However, for the ball python, I have been starting to change my mind ever since I met a baby at work (I am a vet tech) who was absolutely stunning. She was a pearly white snake with faint markings (I don't know the exact morph) and fell in love with her. Since then I have seen other morphs that are nice but do nothing for me until i saw your beautiful male Bamboo. He is also stunning so i think if i take the plunge it may be a Bamboo thank to you :-) Anyway thank you for your videos they are fun to watch. Oh and I was just curious, do you have any experience with Hognose snakes?
Congratulations on the new corn snake he is pretty big. I can’t raise snake but if you want a ball python is boring from what I’ve seen on TH-cam. Cone snake is more active and fun. But I don’t know the care but just my opinion. Love your video 👍
So many people only think about those two as beginners! There are so many more than those two. There is a channel I believe called Snake N' Adders they have a whole very thorough series on beginner snakes.
I’m no expert but I think that is a regular wild type corn snake. Which just goes to show that you can get an absolutely gorgeous snake without paying a lot of money for it. Corn snakes are gorgeous and there’s a color and pattern for every person.
I don't know if you would see this, but my leopard gecko passed away, and I might get a snake. If I do get one, which one do you recommend for a starter
Both are great options, corn snakes might be slightly easier, but there's not much in it. You just have to treat Royals with a little more tlc as they can be shy and picky feeders as mentioned. Mine recently didn't eat for a whole year, even I started to get worried but now he's hammering them down. He's about twenty years old now, I got him when he was a couple of months old and he's great. I love Carpet pythons, but they can be more of a handful and do get a bit bigger and stronger..
Yip 😀 i also have a hatchling male albino corn snake. He is the cutest thing ever. And have 3 other corn snakes as well. 1 lavender juvenile 1 snow and 1 normal adult corn snakes.
Me and my daughter had a corn snake. But not gonna lie it escaped on us a couple weeks ago it sucks, but not worried about his survival there are so many spots for him to get into the walls or under the house to where we have a few others i see from time to time like some yellow rat snake and some more reds plus theres alot of lizards around my house to so i know the snake will survive. Its just haven't lost a snake since i was a kid. I even had the enclosure well secured well i guess not secure enough. But i noticed ours would only come out at night and the ones we would catch in the wild when i would go herping. I would always see them right before dark or at night. And the ones i would see during the day would always be in a dark place like in the dark shed or a old building or in a dark place. The only time me and my kids would come across them like out and about or hunting would be when the sun was setting or late at night. Well cool vid brother
I got my first snake last year and it was a ball python. I got him when he was 3 months old. he just turned 1 last month. my other snake is a corn snake. I got him last month and he is 10 years old
I have a question. I am a member of the Facebook group that says a 20 gallon long tank is enough room for a smaller adult male ball python from for his entire life. Given that ball pythons are perfectly happy in rack setups like what you have, do you think it's okay to keep one in a 20 gallon? I'm assuming it's the same principle as having a rack or tub, it simulates the tight secure spaces of a termite mound in the wild. I just thought I'd ask because some of your tubs in your rack systems look like they may be close to the same size
The problem with glass aquariums is that the snake can't see the sides, so it feels totally exposed. The real size of an aquarium style enclosure is the only the size of the hide you are using.
I have a similar looking girl you most likely have a Okeetee Redcoat, you can research them and see if you see the resemblance. Regardless though, he is a beautiful baby, no matter how big they get they will be babies to me lol
I’ve got a hatchling corn and an adult bp but I got my corn first lol! They are just like cats and dogs, I couldn’t pick between cats and dogs and I can’t pick between corns and balls! But I definitely feel as though I can help people when they are deciding between the two as their first! My corn sheds, feeds and simply exists a little more easily than my bp but it’s just a matter of managing the husbandry and working out any kinks! Both snakes coil their prey, both enjoy their food. I know people that keep a corn as their “garbage disposal”! Got a ball that doesn’t always eat? Don’t like wasting the meal? Get a corn that eats that size prey and there yah go!
You treat your bamboo like i treat my banana, but i been working with my pastel g stripe more, my friend have a corn snake but the veriety of morphs in ball pythons are the reason i got into them.... But great opinion on the difference👍👍👍
Chris Hardwick Ah, that’s what I thought. I’ve been having a hell of a time getting mine above 77F of all things and it’s driving me up a wall. Here I thought humidity would be my trouble area.😓
Yea, I got that wrong big time. I actually watched a video before I filmed this and they said the same thing, they were wrong too. Pretty embarrassing LOL. There's no way to correct it now besides taking down the video and shooting it again.
I was wondering when someone was going to mention that LOL. It actually just came in from a lady that had that snake for many years, it was her only snake. Plus I'm using it for videos in my snake room, can't really do that if it's stuck in quarantine. To be on the safe side I probably should have kept it in a separate room for awhile though...
First hah..i own a Mexican black and I would say that's not a beginner snake..corns are known to have better temperament but they still move around quite a bit..and of course ball pythons are a pet rock haha
Looks like in biology, morph can be defined as "each of several variant forms of an animal or plant." I think it became popular in the 1940s and came from the Greek word "morphē" which means "form".
I disagree a ball python can be handled daily with no issues for its whole life. A boa is going to have times when it’s grumpy and other times when its in a super feeding mode. Small boas can also be very defensive and hard to tame. A way more intimidating snake. Definitely requires more experience and more money to keep. I’d tell anybody to get a ball python or colubrid before they try and take on a boa. You can find 6 foot+ boas on Craigslist for less than $100 because people can’t keep up with them anymore. I have experience with all of them and ball pythons are by far the easiest. Boas are much more rewarding of a snake to keep and seem much more intelligent, but definitely not a beginner snake. Assuming you don’t mean something like a sand boa 😂
Great video Chris. I really enjoy your channel. Just a couple friendly comments for you. Cornsnakes are definitely constrictors and they also do very well in tubs. I have been keeping corns for most of my life and breeding for the past 15 or so years. I would highly recommend a visit to cornsnakes.com, you will love the forum as it is filled to the brim with top notch breeders from all over the world who love to share information on corns. Anyhow keep up the good work buddy.
Corns are culubrids like Indigos- they are intellectual like birds- the condo bitches watching everything and everyone. Indigos bond and even learn their keepers voices.
Oh crap, I just realized that, ,major blooper. I actually heard another TH-camr say they weren't constrictors, that's where I got it, I guess we are both wrong! I'll have to remake this video at some point.
Ball pythons are so calm and make a great emotional support snake.
Lee Harvey Oswald why grumpy?
thanks for letting me know

I don't know if you would see this, but my leopard gecko passed away, and I might get a snake. If I do get one, which one do you recommend for a starter
I'd get a ball python, if you plan to breed I'd start with a female.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures Ok!
I'm going to get a corn snake soon but I don't know what size terrarium to keep it in. I don't know what's too big or what's too small..
I'd get one so he can at least stretch all the way out if possible.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures Thank you very much
Beautiful corn snake Chris. Congratulations.
Can you do more corn snake videos?
OK!
Question, how are the snakes being that close to rats all the time? We have pet rats, and the cage will be in the same room as the snakes.
I agree!
He looks close to my corn snake just mine is missing the black or brown colorings and it has pink eyes.
Corn snakes are also constrictors. The guy who told you they are not constrictors is lying.
Yea, I found that out after I posted this video, another blooper LOL.
Yip 😀 i also have a hatchling male albino corn snake. He is the cutest thing ever. And have 3 other corn snakes as well. 1 lavender juvenile 1 snow and 1 normal adult corn snakes.
Yup my tiny little baby corns squeeze those pinkies
Wow awesome video.
Thank you for sharing.
Those tongue flicks! 😆😍
Rosy boa and Kenyan sand boa are best beginner snakes.
I found my baby corn snake wild bird hunting down here in Florida she eats amazing and is beautiful!!!
First haha I just commented on one of ur April 1st videos brother great content
Wow I had no idea they got that big
Does anyone know if it's normal for a corn snake to only be active while being handled
They do get pretty wild when handled.
Welcome to the corn fam!!!!
Very handsome corn snake! Just out of curiosity, though, what do you normally keep the hot spot for your ball pythons at?
90F.
Chris Hardwick Ah, that’s what I thought. I’ve been having a hell of a time getting mine above 77F of all things and it’s driving me up a wall. Here I thought humidity would be my trouble area.😓
I can’t afford both so what is the best to buy first??? Please answer thankyou❤️
I prefer ball pythons.
My first one was regalur ball i loved it till my house got broke in was 3 foot was my best friend
U ever had speckled king snake?
Nope, never had one.
Are you sure about the constricting? I think that corn snakes are constrictor too.. They constrict their food and eat it
Yea, I got that wrong big time. I actually watched a video before I filmed this and they said the same thing, they were wrong too. Pretty embarrassing LOL. There's no way to correct it now besides taking down the video and shooting it again.
I’m for corn snakes. They don’t easily go on feeding strikes like ball pythons.
Lol sometimes I don’t even listen to the video I just look at you playing with the 🐍
Lordsealgaming that’s what she said
Hey!
I'm from India and I want to buy a cornsnake that deliver to India. Please help
Omg I want a corn snake now !!
No quarantine?
I was wondering when someone was going to mention that LOL. It actually just came in from a lady that had that snake for many years, it was her only snake. Plus I'm using it for videos in my snake room, can't really do that if it's stuck in quarantine. To be on the safe side I probably should have kept it in a separate room for awhile though...
First hah..i own a Mexican black and I would say that's not a beginner snake..corns are known to have better temperament but they still move around quite a bit..and of course ball pythons are a pet rock haha
The term "morph" is kinda odd, what you're actually referring to is known as a phenotype.
Looks like in biology, morph can be defined as "each of several variant forms of an animal or plant." I think it became popular in the 1940s and came from the Greek word "morphē" which means "form".
If you want a snake to be active get a Corn snake
If you want a snake to look at get a Ball/Royale Python
Ball pythons arent good to look at since they ball up most of the time but they are more relaxed
13:15 me too, it's perfect 😂
I really want a corn snake but my mom is scared of them
So does that mean corn snakes are the dogs and the pythons are the cats or vice versa 🤔
I had a king snake for my first
Man, in my opinion I think boa is better first snake, but their size is not perfect for everyone.
Hey Chris I love your videos and ball pythons but there is something you should know. Corn snakes are constrictors
Yea, I realized that right after I posted that video LOL
Great video Chris. I really enjoy your channel. Just a couple friendly comments for you. Cornsnakes are definitely constrictors and they also do very well in tubs. I have been keeping corns for most of my life and breeding for the past 15 or so years. I would highly recommend a visit to cornsnakes.com, you will love the forum as it is filled to the brim with top notch breeders from all over the world who love to share information on corns. Anyhow keep up the good work buddy.
Yea, I realized they were constrictors after I posted the video, major blooper there LOL.
Moves like my SD reticulated python
I was thinking the same thing, moves like a retic!
Ball pythons live for me wild caught and other types kept when I was a kid died all my ball pythons live so I stick with them
Corns are culubrids like Indigos- they are intellectual like birds- the condo bitches watching everything and everyone. Indigos bond and even learn their keepers voices.
My corn snake is about the same size she is really big her name is sissy
my corn is an escape artist to anyone scared about that, it’s really not hard to find them but keep that in mind
Sneaky!
The best analogy I can think of is that Corn Snakes are like Dogs and Ball Pythons are like Cats lol.
I think ball pythons look cooler, and the fact that you can wrap them around your neck is cool
J&L Supreme Pizza I agree but corn snakes do more is general
Ball python like for ball python comment for corn snake
Some one told me that corn snakes wrap thier Food
Yea, my bad, they actually are constrictors.
Corn snakes are constrictors
Oh crap, I just realized that, ,major blooper. I actually heard another TH-camr say they weren't constrictors, that's where I got it, I guess we are both wrong! I'll have to remake this video at some point.
