No. Not your responsibility. If someone put unauthorized charges on the card, it's fraud. That's between her and the card provider. She's lying.

I don’t think he should give her any money but I don’t necessarily believe she is lying. Credit cards don’t always reverse unauthorized charges without massive proof of fraud. It’s happened to family members more than you think.

I'm getting the vibe that ex BF didn't make unauthorized charges. I think it's WAY more likely that she "fronted" her ex BF whatever he bought with the card, relying on his BS promise that he'd repay her. Caller needs to RUN!!! There are WORSE things than being alone! (Namely, NOT being alone, but WISHING that you were!!)

    • @joegresells2161

Not sure if she's lying but I definitely wondered this because i've known people that helped an ex out and then turned it into, "My ex spent all my money!" when the reality is they let them spend the money because they either a) are still in love with the ex and/or b) the ex promised to pay it back and didn't. There is a better than zero chance she willingly let her ex use the credit card. I know dang well that if an ex used my credit card without authorization I'd immediately report to the police and file charges.

I wouldn’t care if she was lying or being honest. The fact that she believes it’s ideal for me to help pay for something she acquired before our relationship is wild. That mindset in itself is enough to keep me from marrying her. I would be preparing to part ways if I were him. I spot manipulators from a mile away🤷🏿

She's bold to ask for $12k. If her ex charged her card without her permission, she should report the charges as fraud. If she doesn't want to, she needs to pay it off or try getting the money back from him.

She probably was unsuccessful in her fraud challenge even though her ex could have been using the card illegally.

She probably can't cos she might be lying about her ex boyfriend using it cos men have a strong tendency to save women from what other men have put them through so the lie has a better chance of working than to just say that you were foolish and ran them up yourself.

As a woman, this sounds so much like she's planning on making you pay off the card and then guilt trip you into allowing her not to pay you back at all. If you were a guy I knew or one of my husband's friends, I would tell you to run from this situation. She just wants to use you, and quite potentially planning to make you pay off the card and then vanish - and even if she doesn't vanish, I bet she is expecting you to propose and forgive that loan in the near future.
If you can't give $12k as a gift with no strings attached, don't give it. Even if it's supposed to be a loan.

Don't do it! I loaned a boyfriend money. A couple of months later, he proposed. The payments stopped. He didn't feel he should pay it back since we were going to get married anyway. That wasn't how I felt about it. And no, we did not get married. But to his credit, he did pay me back after we broke up (I broke up with him for that and many other reasons). And yes, I did wonder if he proposed to get out of paying me back, if that was his reasoning that he shouldn't have to. It's a bad situation to put yourself in.

If her ex got access to her credit card and used it she should’ve reported that to the issuer and police to investigate as fraud so she’s not held responsible. It may be too late now since she didn’t seem to see the severity of it at the time it happened.
How does he use $12k and she didn’t know immediately or report it when it happened? She’s lying.
If she’s asking for a loan you’re entitled to see what you’re helping pay so ask for statements to see what she really bought.
As a woman I’m telling you do not loan her money for an alleged ex’s mistake. She should’ve reported that if it was in fact true fraud. She is lying to you and will likely break up with you after you pay (especially if there’s no contact to repay). She’s an adult and you’re not married so she’s responsible for her debt. If you turn down loaning her money and she becomes upset or threatens to break up with you, that’s your answer. She’s not entitled to you paying off her $12k loan.
And normally people will ask their family (parents) for money before asking a partner or friends. This is a little odd.
