    Reasons to buy:
    Being divorced, I no longer have someone telling what I can and can not spend my money on.
    Reason 2- I no longer have to share the tv with anyone.
    Reason 3- I no longer have someone else buying their crap with my money.
    Reason 4- It looks gorgeous!

      Why would you marry someone who dictates how you can spend your money? I guess i can understand if you suddenly started going nuts, and gambling or something, but in the general sense it seems odd to commit to someone who has a penchant to control you. Sorry i'm not mocking your choices, i'm sure you have a good reason, it's just it seems like that is a VERY common problem, so it's more of an outward question.

    • @NeoDarkcloud
      @NeoDarkcloud 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah sure, but to be fair, they are not as hyped as they used to be, like, a l o t less. The hype now is with those super slick frame TV's by Samsung (at least where i am anyway). PC monitors is another story though, since it's only usually one person at the PC, all those disadvantages become redundant, and immersion goes through the roof, especially with ultrawides.
      So the guy was not wrong, his time frame was a little off though, for living room TV's they have died down a lot, because of how they stick out, and the viewing angles (obviously not an issue if you live alone).

Didn't really improve the the picture quality, same panel but curved. thank goodness the manufacturers came to their senses and focused on OLEDs and other technologies to get deeper blacks, more accurate colors and higher refresh rates. @sly , curved TVs are definitely out. check out the line for LG, Samsung, Sony. Two advantages of the curved screen:

    Nice review!
    A no BS direct approach and not overly being one-sided too, I also liked how you included the reasons to buy one.
    I just bought the 55" curved TV as a xmas pressy to myself, and it's awesome, but like it's flat screen cousins, it has a couple of things to adjust to, but it didn't stop me from trying one in the showroom.
    I remember when flat screen tube televisions were introduced, there were the same concerns about the flatness of the picture, everyone was too use to their bubble screen TV's, flat screens just looked flat and dead.
    The same said about widescreens, people bought to attention the black bars either side when watching 4.3 aspect ratio on these 16:9 screens, because widescreen movies/programs weren't as available or as popular on local TV network broadcasts back then as they are now.
    A curved display is more a personal thing to me, if I want to immerse myself in a movie, I watch my curved TV, family nights are also enjoyed on the same TV with no complaints, but they also have the option to watch our standard 55" flat screen in the family room.
    They don't stick out that much, It's the curvature that's noticeable yes, but it takes up as much real estate on my cabinet as my flat panel did. If its aesthetics your worried about then stick with a flat panel.
    Picture distortion seated from certain side viewing angles are noticeable, and don't deny it, we all rush to get the center position, it's the optimum seating for a curved or flat display.
    I noticed with the curved, seated at the perfect distance, the screen surrounds my field of vision more so when you turn your head either left or right, you will still be looking directly at an undistorted picture from the same viewing distance as looking at it direct front and center.
    With the same centered seating position, but now viewing my flat panel from the same approach as above, I feel the edge of the picture looks slightly distorted because there is now no longer the same viewing distance, my field of vision is adjusting to a viewing angle that's creating a kind of optical vanishing point that leads away from me, so regardless of which screen I watch, I found there will always be some kind of "FOV" distortion.
    Cheap seats?... I would like to take a moment to thank my family for their hilarious impersonations of bumper cars and futile attempts of rushing around to try and steal dads chair on movie night!
    The size of a TV matters, of course every body would love to own a huge 100" screen, I know I would, the more real estate, the better the in house movie experience.
    Owning a smaller screen isn't just a novelty. I also own a 34" curved ultra-wide 21:9 PC monitor, It's great for gaming, movies and your basic everyday PC activities. I've never looked back to my 29" ultra-wide 21:9 flat screen. With the curved screen, I feel more connected to my work on my PC.
    Price is always a factor with new tech releases, it's the rule of thumb, it's new, it's fresh so it includes a hefty price tag until the opposition releases their "newer" version, probably using cheaper parts and labor, that's usually when the price drops.
    Yes I am guilty of throwing money around, and why not, myself and my family bathes in the rewards and spoils of my hard earned cash!
    Hope this FAD remains for the long run, I'll be keen to see how this tech advances in the future ahead.

    Bullshit reasons. It's so unprofessional it's shocking!
    - It's not a fad
    - It's barely more expensive than your regular flat tv
    - It does make a difference
    - It doesn't look creepy - it looks beautiful
    - Not everyone hides their TV in a wall, so the curve actually looks amazing
    - Also what's wrong with a big TV? Don't want it? Just go buy a 32" or something. And no, you don't need 100" - around 65" is a sweet spot. They're still quite affordable, they look great and they're not too big to fit in your living room.
    - Also even when you're sitting far from the center, you can still watch it no problem. Also how many people watch TV with 6 other people.
    - And no, flat TVs won't be back! Just like 1080p, 720p or CRTs won't be back!
    BTW Curved TVs are awesome. Go get one!

    • @Marcus8958
      @Marcus8958 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mateusz Wojtkiewicz
      - It is more expensive overall. You can get a decent 55" 4K tv for €700 but you can't get a decent 55" 4K curved tv for that price. When you start looking at €3000 4K tvs the difference between flat and curved is not that big.
      - Depending on the actual panel of the tv the viewing angles can be tricky. A curved IPS panel is going to have much better viewing angles than a curved TN or VA panel. Although there are some Sony TVs with VA panels that has great viewing angles.
      But I do agree with most of your points.

    • @jeremyjones7696
      @jeremyjones7696 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Mateusz Wojtkiewicz It is geometrically less efficient than a flat panel at delivering an image to a large audience. This is math, not an opinion.
      The reason it is a fad: The very thing that makes this thing "cool" is also the very thing that reduces the viewing angle. THE SECOND people stop thinking that curved is cool, this whole fad will disappear, just like 3D TVs.
      If we both have 70" 4K TVs but mine is flat and yours is curved. The amount of "immersion", or whatever it is you gain, won't outweigh the fact that if you are not in the center you are looking at a smaller than 70" TV. Once again, this is math, not an opinion.

    • @Matticitt

    • @jeremyjones7696
      @jeremyjones7696 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mateusz Wojtkiewicz Theaters have been using curved screens for decades but not to make things "more immersive" or whatever bullshit the TV manufacturers are spitting at you.
      The reason number 1 is to correct for the distortion you get with a flat image being projected from a single point on to a large screen. Like a projector.
      Reason 2. Exceptionally large screens like an IMAX theater.
      In both cases you have carefully designed custom screens for their given rooms because with curved screens you limit your viewing angle. A poorly designed theater has fewer seats in the "sweet" spot.
      Neither of these reason really apply to TVs unless you are going for a really large TV for only 1 or 2 people. Forget about having Superbowl parties or a bunch of people over to watch a movie, You are basically "hogging" the screen unless you go so big that every is in the sweet spot.
      Here is a more in depth analysis.
      gizmodo.com/why-curved-tvs-arent-just-another-gimmick-1502249372 It's not all negative. There are reasons for a curved TV but at the added cost and limited applications? no thanks

    Number 5 is not a very good reason. it's a curved tv so of course its going to stick out. Thats like saying you shouldn't buy an electric car because it doesn't take gas, or you shouldn't buy a tablet because it doesn't have a keyboard. Thats the whole point. You can't fault something for being different on the merit that it's different.
    What he should have said is "I don't get the point", or "I don't understand the reason for the change",.

    well everything he said was wrong, its 2k16 curved tvs are affordable, you dont need to buy really big to be immersive, sitting closer is better for 4k definition, and curved is more available than flat option and its also cool as hell. you are supposed to get a good view no matter where you sit.

  • @alterbr33d

    This is the problem that CRTs had, its called geometric distortion except now its outward not inward and now it is done on purpose. For graphics design a straight line will appear curved, and it will be more difficult to know if its straight.
    Its a slight problem for gaming too, say in a first person shooter, if there is an enemy off in the distance on one of the sides of the screen, you may think they are on the same horizontal plane as your crosshairs, and if you only move the stick to the right or left and not up and down, all of a sudden the enemy will not actually be lined up with your crosshairs, you won't get that head shot as fast as the enemies position will appear to change when it hasn't.
    They only have one advantage, the center of the screen is less likely to be damaged while shipping because its at a further distance from the outside of the cardboard.

    I bought a curved Samsung QLED TV 2 years ago for around $4000 because the flat OLED I wanted was $6000 and a bit too pricey. Since then the price on the same now older model OLED dropped down to $2000 so I bought it for another room in our house. I prefer the curved QLED. The infinite contrast on the OLED is nice but the QLED is wayyyy brighter which I prefer. Plus there are other ways to mount it - I hung it from the ceiling about a foot from the wall and it looks super slick. I do not think I will ever liken it to acid wash jeans. Lol

    The only valid point made in the video was about the picture distortion you experience when viewing from a wider angle. The optimal distance from the TV is 4.2 meters (according to MKBHD) but it can be difficult to achieve depending on your room.

  • @Zeroasd693
    @Zeroasd693 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In a sense, the term "gimmicks" to coin the curve is actually right.
    I have tested the TV and I noticed the "immerse" experience you get is similar to when you try watching your big screen 65 inches plus TV when sitting in the best possible spot, center and closer. I have a 65 inches Samsung TV and I also felt similarly immersed when sitting at a particular position because the TV is so huge. The reason it is a gimmick because the curve "forces" the watcher to sit at the best position to feel the marketed immerse effect, once you sit too far or at an angle, it feels similar to any TV.
    Aside from that I don't intend to go back to buy a TV from Samsung since their TV's speaker is not up to standards and the remote control is unresponsive compare to others on the market. Another thing is a personal preference, Samsung or Korean's TV in general boost up the contrast or the color too much on their TV that it make my eyes too tired out after watching.
