This is just what I was looking for , I’m working a pattern that is working from cuff to cuff shrug and I wanted stretch not front post dc. This will look neat and cleaner. Thank you for sharing! God bless
@@deborahshulamite9456 hi Deborah, thank you! I’m glad you like it. I have a tutorial but it’s part of my online “design & make a granny square sweater course”…. Link: mezzacraft.com/online-granny-square-sweater-course-signups/ I realise it’s not immediately obvious but I’m not a TH-camr but an in person crochet tutor. I’m afraid I don’t have enough followers or generate enough revenue from TH-cam to have all my work available for free. Nor do I have enough time to solely focus on TH-cam content to get there “one day”. I’m explaining this because sadly I have had quite a few messages & comments from people demanding why it’s not all available for free :-( … this is my profession and I have bills to pay 😂 I should probably do a video or something to explain all this but not sure it’s of much interest in a world where people seem to want everything for free 😭
Thank you that's very nice. I have a question you may have covered it and I missed it. How many rows should be in the cuff compared to the garment it's being attached to? For instance if I'm attaching it to a pant leg on a pair of newborn pants with 31 stitches how many rows should be in the cuff?
Hi! For this particular tutorial the size of the cuff is made custom to fit the wrist rather than the size being related to the width of the sleeve. Also the number of rows would be different depending on the hook size, yarn and your personal gauge. So in the case of cuffs for pants, it would be based on the circumference of the baby’s ankles either by testing the length of the strip of ribbing on the baby for size as you’re making it, or by working out how many rows of ribbing you have per cm and obtaining the measurement of the baby’s ankle.
Very helpful video. I have one question: Does the cuff still stretch where it's sewn with the whip stitch? I want to be able to push the cuff up from my wrist to my elbow and i want to make sure it will still stretch
so pleased you found it useful! I have checked my sweater and there is a good amount of stretch at the whip stitch seam. I did make sure not to stitch too tightly
I tried to find the tutorial for making the whole sweater but only found your in person classes. Do you offer an online version of making this sweater?
Hi, unfortunately no - because they are crocheted perpendicular to the sleeves. The length of these cuffs is determined by how many chains you start with, not how many rows you crochet.
@MezzaCraft I'm a new subscriber. I just found you by chance today and excited about all your tutorials I've seen on your channel, this one especially! I would also like to have this sweater pattern emailed to me. If I follow your link to your webpage how will I be able to contact you for this sweater?
I have been looking arounf to make a cuff. Actually the problem is that my sleeve is wide ending (Bell sleeve??). So even if I make a cuff, how should I attach the cuff to it?😢
@@dianashaan1446 I know it seems cheeky of me to ask but did you watch the whole video? I literally demonstrate how to attach the cuff, even when the sleeve is wider than the desired cuff. It’s all in the video! Obviously if the sleeve is simply too wide to attach a narrow cuff because there’s too much fabric to gather in, then you’ll need to decide whether to change the design for a different type of cuff or if you need to re-do the sleeves to make them narrower.
I am so sorry if it came across as something else. I saw you attaching the cuff to the sleeve, but given the fact that my sleeve is wider, I thought I could ask someone more experienced on how to get it done (I am actually a beginner). I suppose it is not possible to gather in large amounts of fabric or does it look messy?@@MezzaCraft
@@dianashaan1446 haha! No worries… I wasn’t sure :-). Yes, if the cuff is really wide, it can become tricky to gather because there’s too much fabric. It depends on the thickness & fibre content of the yarn too - chunky/thick yarns (for me that’s Aran/worsted upwards because I prefer finer yarns for sweaters ) will be more difficult to gather . Squishier yarns will be a bit more forgiving but cotton, not so much. And finally, it’s whether it actually looks nice and sits/hangs properly - even if you’ve managed to gather a much wider sleeve & attach it, it sometimes doesn’t look right or drape properly. The best thing is just to give it a go on one sleeve to see how it looks. Perhaps even make a sc (dv) rib rather than slip stitch because it’s quicker and you won’t feel like you’ve wasted so much time if it doesn’t work out.
You mightve said this in the video but does the cuff and sleeves opening have to be the same width? My sleeves are quite wide and my cuffs are small I want to know if this would effect the way i have to attach it
Yes, it is mentioned in the video. I narrow the sleeve first with a row of single crochet & decreases, and then gather it until it's the same width as the cuff before attaching.
dc UK terminology or dc US? It wouldn't work with US dc as the stitch is much too long. You can do it with a uk dc (us sc) but it won't look exactly the same and it won't have the stretch.
By big do you mean the width around the wrist or length of the cuff? Either way, these are entirely up to you and depend on your size of wrist, how wide you want the cuff and what thickness of yarn and hook size you are using. The size around your wrist is the easiest one to work out - you just keep working the rib until it fits around your wrist. If you want it to "grip" your wrist slightly, make it about 1cm shorter than the circumference of your wrist. If you're making it for someone else that's a different size to you, you will need to check average wrist sizes for your country (I have previously worked in the jewellery industry so I know this varies quite a bit from one country to the next). Depth of cuff is something you will need to experiment with. Obviously, the longer your starting chain, the longer the cuff. The cuff in this video is 22 sts in DK with a 4mm hook. I would consider this to be quite a wide cuff.
