    I remember being scolded by my parents for breaking Protoform Starscreams' fins and fingers just 1 year after I got him as a birthday present from a relative who lives very far away. If only I had found out about GPS earlier...

    The 2007 movie toys are truly something else. They came off the chunky heels of Cybertron (and ran concurrently with Classics, although that was thanks to Classics being whipped up to fill the gap created by the movie’s delay), so they weren’t fiddly messes like those we’d see during ROTF’s bigger offerings. They certainly weren’t 1:1 recreations of the character designs like what we have now with Studio Series, either.
    But they have something that sets them apart from the other movie lines, and that’s what it represents. The 2007 movie marked the start of a transitory era for the franchise, and the toys are a perfect indicator of that. HasTak had no idea how to do the Bayverse designs yet, but they gave it their all and applied what they’d learned from Cybertron and Classics to create toys that were simultaneously relics of an era quickly on its way out (the Unicron Trilogy) and trendsetters introducing Bay's bold new era.
    That, and I think this, ROTF and DOTM all benefited from making toys of more than just the main cast in various scales. We had the Real Gears, the Cybertron repaints, and wholly original characters like Wreckage. Since the movies could only do so much with the titular robots in disguise, the toyline helped flesh out both factions and create a bigger world to play around in. I wish that ROTB’s toyline would have more oddball offerings that exist to fill up the shelves and expand the universe.

    2007 Target Exclusive Jazz is Holy Grail to me only because he had the G1 colors.
    And no joke, I thought we would get a Leader Class Blackout when the Allspark line came out, and would’ve been perfect given the blue color gimmick. But I had to wait 15 years for a proper Blackout figure from the Masterpiece Movie line, and scaled excellently with the 2007 toyline.

    There's apparently also a variant of the original Brawl that uses solid plastic gears instead of clear. But you still want to hunt down the Desert version because that one also fixed the shoulder connectors, so they actually... connected.

    The 2007 movie was my first exposure to Transformers and as such the 2007 movie toys were my first TF toys, so, while I acknowledge its problems, I still enjoy both the movie and the toys from a nostalgic point of view.
    The figures I had were: Bumblebee (classic Camaro version), Stealth Bumblebee (The black and yellow repaint of 07 Camaro Bee from the Allspark Power toyline), Blackout, Megatron (The Voyager class version with the icy look), Swindle, Arcee, and Jazz (I also had the ROTF Smokescreen repaint).
    I did eventually get Barricade, Brawl, and Scorponock, but they were the re-releases from the ROTF toyline (Scorponock was the black and red version, Brawl was the Deep Desert tan repaint, and Barricade was the Interrogation version).
    I never got any version of Starscream (I did have the ROTF Skywarp repaint of the Voyager class mold though), Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Ironhide, or Bonecrusher (Though I did eventually get the Studio Series version).
    I still hope to get that Studio Series 2007 movie 15th Anniversary Autobots 5-Pack someday.

    Thanks for doing my tier list TJ, probably wouldn't have done it exactly as you did but I think the list is pretty fair over all. Fun fact, Barricade was my first live action movie toy, unfortunately I have since lost the little Frenzy that comes with him and his hip also shattered, even worse is that ROTF re-release of the figure that I got as a replacement, the head is beginning to fall apart....I have really bad luck with that mold.

    I have some of these. The Classic Camaro Bumblebee (it’s decent), the black and yellow repaint of Dreadwing (it sucks and the balljoints have been bad ever since I got it), and Dropkick (probably my favorite out of all the movie toys I own).
    I used to have a Concept Camaro Bumblebee (it was a “Battle Damage Deco” 2-pack with the Classic), but a “friend” at the time stole it. So I don’t have many memories of it.

    Love all the stuff I have from the toyline, tbf I only have 3 (4 if you count the RotF redeco of Voyager Prime) from it but it's all really fun for the most part. Bonecrusher is my favorite, but Concept Camaro Bee is extremely photogenic. And Barricade is a solid and fun guy too.

    I remember 2 things vividly from the 07 movie line as a child:
    1) Barricade was my very first, and that is why he's my boy. totally agree with the transformation part, it irked me as a kid. The Recon repaint is something I wish they'd revisit someday in a Selects release or somethin'.
    2) I got the Yellow on Black repaint of the newer Camaro Bumblebee, and one of the lower leg's automorph to go into alt mode, did not want to work properly. So I'd end up with a Camaro with a wheel chock lock on it...not a great time.

    I'd put Landmine in holy grail personally. I think they did a great job with that mold, though the Armorhide redeco in the ROTF line looks better.

  • @TammyBoy
    @TammyBoy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had most of these as a kid and they were made to last. I remember playing with them and smashing them together and non broke. Today's Tf toys break when you use a tad bit of force to transform it.

  • @RialVestro
    @RialVestro ปีที่แล้ว

    So I'm putting this out there before I actually watch the video and see your ratings. I do not like the movie aesthetic in general and a lot of the toys from this line I would just rate very poorly as a result. However there are actually a few toys in the 2007 movie line who I feel are actually BETTER than a lot of later movie toys and this is helped by the fact that they're either characters who weren't actually in the movie in the first place or are not accurate to how they looked in the movie. Bumblebee for example a few of his toys came out with a solid chest which I think actually made him look better than the broken design he had on screen. Jazz is another one that I think looked a lot better as a toy than he did on screen. The toys had a lot more chunky vehicle kibble on them rather than 2/3rds of their alt mode magically disappearing as they transform so the LESS they look like their CGI models the MORE I like the toy.
    - = edit = -
    After watching the video... Jazz I would of put in retail... maybe bottom of Retail but I don't think his arms are bad enough to warrant Bargain Bin.
    Optimus Prime I agree with everything you said completely. Even down to the fact that I actually got rid of mine even though I actually like that toy. I replaced it with the RotF version just so I'd have a representation of his combined mode with Jetfire which I don't even like Jetfire or their combined mode. :P
    Protoform Optimus Prime, I do like that mold, however the lack of color makes him look more like an Ultra Magnus rather than an Optimus Prime. I had the same issue with Evasion Mode Optimus Prime from Age of Extinction. I don't know why movie Primes keep releasing him in near white shades of grey. There is a later repaint of the mold that's actually in his proper colors and I would happily replace it if I could find that version.
    Leader Megatron I'd like to point out that there is another version of that figure that doesn't have the Ice Deco. I know because I have that figure on my shelf. It's still a terrible figure though, it's a pain to transform, literally there are clearance issues and it's really easy to pinch yourself between his parts as you're doing it. I've only ever transformed the thing twice and it's just stayed on my shelf in robot mode ever since because I hate the transformation. It looks simple because Megatron doesn't really look like anything but it's some how the most complicated transformation of any toy I've ever owned.
    Modern Bumblee, would like to point out that the shoulders on that particular mold are just friction tabbed into place and they don't always hold in too well. I actually have multiple versions of that particular mold. They did actually screw them into place on later versions but the original release had some QC issues with if the shoulder details were actually going to stay pegged in or not.
    Barricade can stay here he is.
    Wreckage, that would honestly be the only figure from this toy line that I'd actually put in holy grail. Wreckage looks like how Megatron SHOULD have looked in the movie. It's weird how a random toy only character looks more like Megatron than the actual Megatron does. He's even got the right color scheme to be Megatron, the bucket helmet, and you can mount his weapons on his arm like a Fusion cannon!
    Pretty much everyone else who's based on a design that was actually in the movie can move down to Flea Market. Protoform Starscream and the other guy who wasn't in the movie they can actually move UP to Bargain Bin. They don't suffer quite as much as actual movie designs do but they weren't that great either. I just really hate movie Transformers so anything that looks too much like the CGI models is always an automatic flea market. They don't look good, they don't feel good, they're not fun to transform, there are very few movie toys I actually own and I really wish they would STOP making Transformers in that aesthetic because the few I do have are still a nightmare even if they are less of a nightmare than most of the other figures I intentionally avoided.

    @Top_Galer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really like the Dropkick mold. I have Salvage as a childhood toy. Really neat how you can change up the vehicle mold by placing or removing the weapon. The legs are also satisfying to transform. The arms pop from the ball joint too much though .

  • @Buff_Helpy
    @Buff_Helpy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another reason the toyline might've turned out mid is they were rushing these out before they had even settled on designs, most of these are based on concept art.
    Also, fun fact, the real gears were supposed to be released in cybertron, that's why they have those cybertron pictures on them.

    Sorry, but I cannot accept a list that has either ‘07 Movie Megatron not in Flea Market.
    Also I actually like Dreadwing, namely if you notice that his “underbelly kibble” in Alt mode is actually supposed to be a bomb.
    Also Dropkick gets bumped up for me exclusively because of the Salvage repaint. That is one really nice repaint. Also I actually like Swindle’s design more than most. It could have been a bit better but eh…

  • @Wolfie1262

    I think that Starscream was one of the last figures to use that type of plastic.
    I was surprised at how high you put Ratchet.
    I got him for my youngest nephew as a Christmas present, and he has a hell of a time transforming him. That friggin’ front grill thing would pop off if one of the dogs on the other side of the house so much as passed gas.
    Still, I liked him lol
    My nephew was a Unicron Trilogy kid. That was his G1.
    Which I didn’t mind. We got to bond over Transformers.
    I had Voyager Starscream and Thundercracker (I never can remember if Thundercracker came out in the 07 line or later), but I liked him for what he was.
    I liked Thundercracker more, cause his deco wasn’t complete ass.
    I think the 07 Megatron might be the single worst Megatron ever.
    Even over the first edition Prime Megatron peeking out of his alt mode and yelling “Wheeeeeeeee!” all the way home

    I had a little bit of fond memories with the 2007 Transformers toyline it's the line that got me into Transformers. I remembered going to the mall with my mother into a KB toy store that we had in our mall at that time. When I went into that store with my mother I saw the small racks with the Transformers 2007 toy's on the shelves and there was this guy who was employee there I don't remember his name ,but I can't remember what we talk about may be how cool there was a live action Transformers movie coming out and new toyline for Transformer even those I was new to Transformers even those I remember getting spy changers at a Rite aid store. I only remember getting a couple of legends class figures like Bumblebee, Jazz, to even Megatron. I only got two deluxe from the line the old 1974 Camaro Bumblebee and Cliffjumper from the Alspark subline of the 07 toyline. As a child I always wanted the Ultimate bumblebee and remember someone that had one I was upset that I didn't get one ,but looking back on as a adult I really glad I didn't get one. I know this isn't the popular opinion, but I am okay with Bumblebee in the rise of beast being the old Camaro again and the reason is I am a fan of old muscle cars especially Camaro's. Don't give me wrong I am very happy they did give the fans what they want in the Bumblebee movie in the fact he was a Volkswagen Beetle, but to each their I just believe you never gonna to satisfy with people slash fans with how many times you going to change a Transformer character to other things in pop culture. Enjoy the video.

  • @medafan53
    @medafan53 ปีที่แล้ว

    The classic camaro Bumblebee's auto-morph didn't impact the ability to stay in Robot mode, it was vehicle mode that was the problem, because at the slightest movement the front would flip into robot mode, which is why I was so glad that Studio series finally gave a take on this design that didn't have that flaw.
    Can't speak for widespread but the gears in the automorph gimmick in the modern camaro version's chest eventually stripped themselves on my copy.

  • @guncannon109
    @guncannon109 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can honestly say I agree with pretty much everything on here. Personally though, I would bump leader Brawl up to premium and have Ironhide at the very top of retail (I'd have him in premium based on how much mileage they got out of the mold, but we're only judging the first iteration of the mold, not what it was made into). No, see the only major difference I'd make is Jazz, who I'd argue belongs at the bottom of retail. Sure, the arms are crap, but the vehicle mode, chest, head and legs and very well done to the point I find that it more than makes up for it. He's a solid figure given the fact they were still figuring out the movie aesthetic and had to rush things out the door.

    You’re totally right. This line was like G1 for many people my age. I Had a few Cybertron trilogy figures before, but wasn’t really aware of the storyline of the toys. Just thought the way they looked were cool looking probably.
    This movie properly introduced me to the world of Transformers. Thank you Micheal Bay. Collected so many of this line and ROTF as a kid. Only got a few Dark of the Moon figures.
    My favorite figures were Leader Optimus (loved that toy, never had ROTF leader as a kid), Classic Bumblebee, Barricade, and Jazz. Fast Action Battle Blackout was also great. Think it was better then the mainline figure.

    I absolutely loved that og 2007 Jazz toy as a kid and I still love it as an adult. I’ve even purchased multiple different versions of the mold. His arms are definitely not the best, but they look close to how they do in the film so I can forgive them. I definitely get why people still don’t like them tho. The track system on both of the arms was a little too long on the original release of the toy and they’d wear after a bit making the arms a bit floppy after awhile, but this was fixed for the future repaints (which is why I kinda prefer the Target exclusive G1 repaint). His tiny hands also have the wrong amount of fingers because it was going off of early concept art (which is also why the fins on Jazz’s head go the opposite way), but his weapons aren’t handheld ones and form outside of his arms so again, they don’t really bother me. Outside of that tho, the head had really great light piping and nice copper paint. I also really liked automorph feature and the way the armor wraps around the wheels in his arms. The paintwork in the alt mode is amazing, and the fact that the vehicle mode had all pinned wheels as well as a hint of seats and a steering wheel behind the window was awesome. Honestly it was probably one of the best vehicle modes from the line. The transformation is also a pretty quick process aside from pushing the shoulders in to make the front sides of the car. The only thing I don’t really like are the faux wheels on the sides of his feet. They look alright in the robot mode, but they awkwardly fold away in the vehicle mode. Overall though, I think he’s way better than a lot of people have given him credit for, even tho he’s been completely outdone by his HFD, SS, and MPM versions.
