    I agree plus there corks are horrible they really dont fit correctly once you open the bottle, so i think over time with it being not a tight cork the bourbon is going age quickly and possibly go flat.

      It will be interesting to see if it happens. I have enough bottles to last a few years so only time will tell. Cheers!

    It's definitely a sip it here, in southern CA, where they only go for $49.98

      Mine was $119 in Southern California. Are you sure you’re talking about double wheat?

    • @BeeJ87

      @@deankruse4491 yes, thats for the double wheat. Even the 10yr straight wheat only costs $99.99. Sir your store is def price gouging.

      You’re getting it for way less than everybody else it seems. In the video this guy says he’s getting it for $110 in Phoenix so that’s more in line with what I’m seeing at all my local stores. 🤔

    I got the OE Rye & Wheat and the Cigar blend for 50% off clearance at VA ABC. I like them both but I'm not crazy about them. I agree that they do have a very distinct fresh wood note on the nose I'm not crazy about.
    The infinity blend was one of the best things I've ever had

      I have 8 different bottles in my collection. This one and the 4 grain are my favorite. I never had the Infinity blend, but I see it on the shelf in my area. Cheers.

    OLD ELK, Straight Wheat Whiskey.
    I got this one as a gift. It's almost a finished bottle.
    When I sip this Wheat 🌾 whiskey.
    It's soft, it isn't complex. It has sweet honey, slightly warm toasty bread. It does have a thick medium finish.
    I would like to check out something different from the brand. They do have many bottle releases.
    I will probably go to a bar and check them out before I buy a bottle.
    The prices are high for all Old Elk.
    I would like to see them be a little lower.

      I have 8 different bottles from them. I went overboard when they hit the shelf. Now I'm a little burnt out. I'll wait until all my bottles are gone before I get another one. Then I'll concentrate on store picks going forward.

    I haven’t had much from Old Elk, but have been curious about the double wheat. I have certainly been turned away from the produce though, it’s 90 here.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That price would turn me away from it as well. Cheers!

    It’s for saving yet again. I had these on my wish list at a Total Wine hoping that it would get on sale for 25% off. then I could get it but doesn’t seem worth it.

      If you have a good whiskey bar in your area or if Total Wine offers a tasting. I'd try it and see if you like it.

    I tried their the Port finished bottling and this Double Wheat. Both are very good, but the Straight Rye is still my OLD ELK of choice.
    I hope to try the Total Wine Barrel Select version of the Straight Rye if I can get my hands on a bottle.

      I can't bring myself to buy another bottle from them. I have 8 right now and those will last me a while. BUT if I do get another one it will be the rye. Cheers!

    I wasn't crazy about their Cigar Cut, but I think I feel that way about most bourbons finished in other casks. But they recently sent me a sample of the 2023 Infinity Blend, which is mostly wheat whiskey, and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it's going to be about $150 (and not available - yet - in North Carolina).

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 2022 Infinity Blend was about the same price. I never tried it. I have 8 different bottles from them right now. I went all in and bought just about everything they made. I will be sipping on these bottles for a while so I don't see myself getting anything else from them for a long while.

    Couldn’t agree more. I tried and liked but the price… I’ll go with some other wheaters that I like too.

    Old Elk is great and a little too expensive. I enjoy the double wheat, but agree that store picks are where its at for the money.

      The store pick won my blind if I am not mistaken when I did the First Friday Flight Fight.

    Really want to try some of their line but haven't wanted to pay the $. Most I've paid for a bottle was $65 and that made me cringe a little. Thanks for reviewing this.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's understandable not wanting to pay more then $65. These bottles are relatively expensive and I think bottles that go for less are better in my opinion.

      @@whiskeyisajourney Agree, I've recently gotten a bunch for $30-65 that I really enjoy. One bottle I might go at $80 would be a Barrel Bourbon product, maybe...

    Just to pricey for what it is. Same with Blue run it’s just a crazy high price. For sourced juice what they do with it isn’t really that special. I’d say at best a 60 bottle. To many others that are sourced and a bit cheaper. Buzzards roost is a very good pour for 45 and their cigar rye is 82 and I think it’s better than the Old Elk version. Skips are getting ready to over take sips. And I believe price has much to do with that. Enjoy!!

      The Buzzards Roost cigar rye is nothing like Old Elk Cigar cut. The cigar rye is smoke with tobacco leaf, the cigar cut is finished in multiple barrels and then blended. The cigar cut is very good. Not quite to the level of Joseph Magnus, but its also like $100 less

      I have enough of their bottles to last me a while. Unless something spectacular comes out from them I don't think I'll be buying another bottle for a while.

    Old Elk is hit or miss for me but always overpriced for what you get and better options for those I like.
    So far my favorite Old Elk is the rum cask finish but I rather have the Sagamore Rum Cask finish as it has a better taste (and is $20-$30 cheaper)

      I like the Four Grain, and a store pick got just before I did the Friday Flight Fight a while back. I also have too many bottles from them to try any more from them.
