Thanks for the info. I was having problems with Trader Workstation locking up on my 32GB Memory system. It was set to 768MB by default. I upped it to 2048, no muss no fuss about the number, windows will handle it. Also, highlighting the high and low on the chart in green and red is fantastic! Thanks for the hints. There are so many options in TWS, it is difficult to navigate them all. Good info.

@@VerrilloTrading Hi Verrillo, thumbs up for your feedback. I have another question, for the time and sales, in the settings, upticks is green, down tick is red. But only the first data has colour on it, the rest date stays in white font in my TWS. What about the rest data, how can they have colours on them ?
One of the best video for setting the TWS !! I don't if someone can help me on one particular setting: one month ago i check the box " don't show this window again" on the windows preview order when you place an order. Well now I would like to restore that window BUT I can not find on configuration the setting. Any suggestions ?
Thank you for the kind words. The setting you are looking for is here in TWS: File > Global Configuration > Messages > Confirm order submission. You will need to check the box on the right side to re enable it.
Yes that is a fair statement but it depends on what kind of forex analytics you are looking for. I think TWS has more analytics for stock options in particular.
So good very helpful info. One thing I have been hunting for and can't find anywhere is how do you get your stop and take profit orders to show up on the chart?
Good question. With a margin account you are permitted to use your currency or assets as collateral to purchase securities without necessarily having the underlying currency of that security as collateral in your account. What it would result in is a negative USD balance when you buy a USD stock. Say you buy USD $5000 worth of a stock, your USD balance will still decrease by $5000 when you buy it. The cash and other securities in your account are acting as the collateral to make the trade. You will incur interest on negative balances, refer to their website for how much that is.
Appreciate all the info you have provided. I have one question. Does TWS have the feature to show past filled orders on the chart? Such as a green up arrow for longs and red down arrow for shorts?
Great video, thanks! Does anyone know if IB has a halt indicator, some kind of highlight on the Level 2 that tells you if the stock is close to being halted due to volatility?
This is great, thank you for sharing. By the way, is there a way to make your paper trading account mimic all of your settings and layout of the real account without having to make all customizations twice? It is so annoying to mirror everything.
Truly helpful settings very well articulated with a very efficient delivery pace. The memory allocation setting info tops all of the others in my view. So much pain saved, and the annoying refreshing update status bar of the book trader is a reliever too. Great tutorial. Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
I have seen all your videos, and are very helpful, I am not trading in a real account yet, but a I have a question, do you recommend start with CFD's in IB? I don have so much money but I would like to start with USD $2K and I know that I cant do day trading with options with that amount. Any recommendation?
Israel Barba I highly recommend paper trading until you start to build some consistency in your executions. Send me an email and I would be happy to answer any questions.
@Alessio Maliziola There is no minimum to open up a margin account in Canada. The thing is if you want any form of live data you need $2000 USD equivalent or more in order to subscribe to market data. (even if the market data only costs a couple dollars per month). Once the market data is active you only need to maintain $500 USD to keep the market data active month to month. You don't need any minimum balance to open up an account I believe.
Most helpful 19:35sec... So many great features/functions now added to my trading screens that I probably would never have bothered looking into unless I came across this vid! So many thanks... Hey, thanks for the videos on TWS. When laying down horizontal trend lines, is there a way type in the level that you want the horizontal line displayed at? It seems like the only way to adjust is it via mouse drag.
Thanks for this! I downloaded TWS over a month ago but could never configure it to my satisfaction. Consequently I'm still trading on a bank-based platform charging huge commissions for frequent, small-value trades.
amazing video. A couple of questions regarding setting up TWS. Is there a way to display only the put side of the option chain? And hopefully only/mostly the out of money part?
I don't believe that's possible. You can choose some display settings in the top right. Say if you only wanna display up to 1 standard deviation or all strikes, you can choose that.
How to write and create my own indicators, also how do I combine 2 indicators in one ( I have this option with the Trading view app) in interactive brokers? Thank you :)
I don't know if this is supported through their API. It would be ideal to seek another charting tool if you need to perform studies ontop of studies etc.

just discovered your channel - awesome stuff. Clearly I don't know what I don't know.... will have to binge watch your vids. (Subscribed). I am new to tws and relatively new to options trading. But I am a bit confused about setting a stop loss when selling a credit spread. If I wanted to set a stop loss to exit a position when the option price rises to 3x the net credit received, how would i go about this if (i) the position is already on, or (ii) i place the stop loss at the time of the placing the trade order? TWS shows the credit spread as a "buy" order with a negative price (credit). If the net credit is reflected as -2.00, would I set the stop loss (market) at -6 or +4.00??....would i set the stop loss as a sell order on the position?...I called IB today and they spun my head around. Thanks!!
Hi thanks for all your video.I am interested on IBK but the thing is that I do not understand how to set a 1% risk ratio and mainly how to get out of that trade....If only I could know this,I immediately use IBK...Sorry for this stupid question...
Great video! Does IB have a "Fill or Kill" order execution for stocks? So if I want to buy 10000 shares of a stock, either it will fill entirely or not at all? I think it has this for option contracts but I'm not sure if it has it for stocks. Thanks.

All of then are listed in the tab positions separately or they are aggregated? Thank you, and sorry for my english.
This is not allowed on the CME, I do not know about other exchanges but it is unlikely. One account can not be both long and short in the same contract. You can achieve this by using 2 different accounts.
How did you get the size on the market dept (L2 ) to remove the trailing zeros EG 1 is 100 and 50 is 5000. Been trying to figure out how to do that for over 1 hour now,
I kinda stumbled over a way to separate premarket and/or days etc without to much trouble. In any Charts Window go to ‘Edit’ and select ‘Vertical Line’ and drag it to wherever you want a division. From there you can drag it forward every new session. You can have more than one also. .
It could be a setting you programmed in your hotkey menu by accident. Be sure to use the correct hotkey menu (if your on the chart program them in charttrader hotkeys).

I want to send conditional order based on a study, for example 9d-EMA >21d-EMA I want to send a buy order automatically. Could you please guide me to find out how I do that in TWS?
TWS doesn't have automated trading based on indicators built in. The closest thing you might find is using their Accumulate-Distribute tool. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/ZLjAd9j90XE/w-d-xo.html Other than this there is no option to trade based on indicator alerts like you could in other platforms. You need to code it as an add on.
Love this setting vid, Question: when adding a trend line i want it to set it to the tick/candle hi/low/open /close, for example. try setting a horizontal trend line MES to 3862.50....good luck, it will go to .51 or .48... Thanks
Thank you for your video! in your TWS your windows and background are all in black colors. In my simulated account, I always have the windows in black and gray color, it looks like a window style from the 2000s. Do you know how to adjust them like your TWS?
Hi, that would be in the settings menu. Global config/Charts/Chart colors. In that menu you can change the color of anything including the grid lines and background.
thanks helpful. do you know how I can get the same ticker symbol on multiple layouts. Currently if I click on AAPL on mosaic it does not change automatically in my option layout. thanks
Very nice video. Can you tell me where do you put letters bigger? The platform letters are very little. Is there a way to put them bigger? Thanks in advance.
thank you for this video. I was unable to figure out how to add the book trader to my TWS panels. I also did not manage to make it as small as you have it. It pops up for me as a giant separate window.
@@VerrilloTrading You are welcome. I went to the IB videos to get more info on how to deal with mechanics of the panels but I’m going to continue with the rest of your videos. They give great tips. I hope you have a video that will give data on where to find the Greeks as I could not find them in the standard IB mosaic for options trading. I guess it is further down on your Playlist. I figure I’ll run into it eventually.
Hi, does this platform support multiple monitors?....Can you have a few charts opened at same time and move them to a second monitor?...great video by the way.
Appreciate this awesome video! I literally spent an hour following through with settings on my computer. One problem I’m having though is ChartTrader BuyStopOrder Button. Isn’t the whole point of this to set an order at where you click the mouse? Wherever I click, it just jumps to the last price. Is this normal?
This was helpful. I trade futures on IB but they quoted are horrendous and I’m often trading in the dark. Still, this video will help me fix a couple irritants. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video, and thanks for sharing the options which you find useful and the ones which do not matter so much to you. Made it a powerful 19min35sec! I did have two questions (i) do you know if there is a setting for a countdown timer for when a candle is about to start / end? (ii) is there a way to 'alt tab' between the different tabs you can set-up in TWS?
Pleasure to help. Timer, I don't believe so. Tradingview has that feature but TWS doesn't I think. I don't think you can alt tab either but try messing around. Sorry, couldn't help much there.
I've tried a few. I use a Logitech ergonomic weird looking mouse cause I was getting some pain using regular mice. I switch around sometimes for example to play a video game.
Been watching a number of your videos and they have been very helpful. I have a question that you might be able to answer. When I click on an open option in my portfolio, my charts open up to the option, but I always want to see the underlying stock. Is there a way to force this behaviour?
That is because the windows are grouped together. When you click on an option it changes the chart to your option. It's annoying I know. Try ungrouping them or having a seperate group for those windows.
Nice video . Do U know how to change the sub chart for volume it’s orange yellow green dislike that so much I would like it green orange if possible. Can u help me out
thank you for a great tutorial. How to see total P&L in % in IB trader workstation Portfolio positions data columns? I see only in $ available and % only for a the day P&L , not absolute. It is available in Quest trade and basic position info...

At 2:57 you said that you only trade in US dollar and you have it turned off? The "Show position values in base currency" is what i mean. Is that what you said? That part of the video i could not get it what you said? So... "dollars" and "off" is what you said? And how does it work when you place a trade? Your canadian dollars get turned into us dollar if you trade a US stock in order for that stock to be bought? And if you then sell the stock you get dollars for the stock, which you then convert back into canadian dollars?
Hi! Thanks for the vid. Do you have any recommendation what to do when the candlestick chart is too squeezed together? Sometimes it's very hard to read data off of it because it sets a huge price range to show. Only thing works sometimes is I can zoom in and out to reset it and make it look better
In TWS there's two kinds of charts. One that fixes a time period and one that simply shows the bars you select. If you select the fixed time period you can end up with a squished chart like you described. View my video on how to work the price chart in TWS. Cheers.
Been using IB for like 9 months and pretty happy with them. One issue I have is that the time&sales will sometimes switch to decimals under the Last column instead of the current whole number price of the stock and I have to click on and off the name on my watchlist to get it back to normal, do you have the same issue at all?
Great guide man! Thanks very much! Question: How do you get your windows to have virtually no boarder? Mine have pronounced grey title bars and great boarders where as your screen looks very seamless.
Hello man. Nice video. I have a question: I use TWS but I cant see real time price movement in the charts. Is that something I have to pay for? or do I just need to configure it. Thanks
Thank you for the tutorial! For some reason when I tick the box to highlight the high/low on the y-axis nothing is showing on the chart.. Also is there a way to show how the different indexes are performing live (not on the chart)?

@@VerrilloTrading what don you mean by System resources? Do you mean more power the system needs to use? Do you show how to separate a new TWS window in another monitor in the Video?
It generally uses more power when you detach widgets or windows from a main application window. I don’t know if it is shown in this video but the process is pretty straightforward.

@@VerrilloTrading thanks you made a video on hotkeys using macros. I liked that video. Can you share the video how to create hotkeys using macros? I don't find your video on it? thanks for the help
I WISH there was a way to have currency show instead of the percentage when you use the dynamic trendline crosshair tool. Do you if this is possible?
I want to send conditional order based on a study, for example 9d-EMA >21d-EMA I want to send a buy order automatically. Could you please guide me to find out how I do that in TWS?
TWS doesn't have automated trading based on indicators built in. The closest thing you might find is using their Accumulate-Distribute tool. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/ZLjAd9j90XE/w-d-xo.html Other than this there is no option to trade based on indicator alerts like you could in other platforms. You need to code it as an add on.
@@VerrilloTrading Thanks
Currently if I click on AAPL on mosaic it does not change automatically in my option layout. thanks
They need to be grouped to the same group color. Right click each window and make them part of a color group.
Very nice video. Can you tell me where do you put letters bigger? The platform letters are very little. Is there a way to put them bigger? Thanks in advance.
That would be in the font settings at the top of the main TWS window. You can also change the font of individual windows in their settings. Cheers.
@@VerrilloTrading Thank you very much.
Hi,
Is possible to increase line thickness for indicators, for example SMA?
thank you for this video. I was unable to figure out how to add the book trader to my TWS panels. I also did not manage to make it as small as you have it. It pops up for me as a giant separate window.
Glad it helped.
Cheers thanks! Yes.
@@VerrilloTrading Thanks
Thanks, just getting started with Trader Workstation, this is was helpful. Thanks
Great to hear!
At the beginning I thought who is speaking but then ya ya sounds good and very clear thanks
Glad it helps!
I ran into that problem as well. Decided to just use bid or ask instead and then move the order with either the mouse or a hotkey.
Thank you for sharing the info, very helpful. One question how to do you increase/decrease the quantity by using the keyboard? which keys?
You can set that to any keys you like with the hotkeys configuration. The parameter is "increase/decrease limit price or size"

This was helpful. I trade futures on IB but they quoted are horrendous and I’m often trading in the dark. Still, this video will help me fix a couple irritants. Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
I use TOS and it seems you have to change similar settings for our styles of trading.
MAY I KNOW WHAT kind of mouse do you have?
I've tried a few. I use a Logitech ergonomic weird looking mouse cause I was getting some pain using regular mice. I switch around sometimes for example to play a video game.
Thanks for this amazing tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Can u help me out
Thanks. It would be in the color settings of the chart, unfortunately it will change the color of the bars too.
@@VerrilloTrading thanks a lot champ keep up the good work ur amazing
Can you please show us your Options preset settings?
I am confused how to preset my order as "SMART" like yours.
Thank you!
thank you for a great tutorial.
How to see total P&L in % in IB trader workstation Portfolio positions data columns? I see only in $ available and % only for a the day P&L , not absolute. It is available in Quest trade and basic position info...
If you use a quote board you could add the column that shows you this data.
Excellent content, thanks! This solved my problem of not being able to scroll in/out with the mouse wheel. Saved me so much time trialling various settings. And yeah, I wished the post/pre market regions had a different coloured background. Cheers.
Glad it helped!
Hello, is there a way to add Fair Value Gap (FVG) indicator in Interactive Brokers TWS?
Hello, this is not natively available in the software.
Cheers.
@@VerrilloTrading Thank you so so much! Happy holidays!
@@VerrilloTrading I liked a bunch of your videos in return haha, I hope it casts more views to you because you make great videos!
Thanks so much and happy holidays ☺️🙏
Been using IB for like 9 months and pretty happy with them. One issue I have is that the time&sales will sometimes switch to decimals under the Last column instead of the current whole number price of the stock and I have to click on and off the name on my watchlist to get it back to normal, do you have the same issue at all?
Yeah totally, it does glitch from time to time. Try to keep your TWS updated always. It also helps to have a minimalist setup but that's your choice.
@@VerrilloTrading ok thought I was crazy but just something I guess I'll have to occasionally deal with. Thanks for getting back to me
@@MattDiamond Np man.
@verillotrading do you use the "latest" "beta" or "stable" version of TWS?
Latest
Great guide man! Thanks very much! Question: How do you get your windows to have virtually no boarder? Mine have pronounced grey title bars and great boarders where as your screen looks very seamless.
I'm not sure what you mean but it could be the TWS color scheme you choose. Mine is set to dark, there is also light and classic.
@@VerrilloTrading No worries. Thank for the fast reply! :)
what stocks do you like Mr.V - any risky idea...airlines? cruise? cake?
I trade only the names with the highest option volume!
Hi , do you know how to setup akerts for Moving averasges cross over in Trader workstation ? . Thank you
You can try their accumulate distribute tool. If it isn’t there, they don’t have it built in. I think this is much easier to do on TradingView.
Hi man, as a beginner in TWS I find your videos a relief for frustration! Could you share your chart layouts and templates?
Thanks for the kind words. I don't really have chart layouts but I can send you templates if you reach out to me through email.
Hello man. Nice video. I have a question: I use TWS but I cant see real time price movement in the charts. Is that something I have to pay for? or do I just need to configure it. Thanks
You probably don’t have a market data subscription. No live streaming is possible if you don’t. Cheers!
What type of order you're placing for long term investing ? Years as long period for example.
Limit order is your best friend.
Awesome video! How do you enable the "order toolbar" in your char?
Do you mean the thing you use to put in/view orders? That's called charttrader.
Thank you for the tutorial! For some reason when I tick the box to highlight the high/low on the y-axis nothing is showing on the chart.. Also is there a way to show how the different indexes are performing live (not on the chart)?
The setting is in chart parameters, it should work. Indexes umm, add them to your watch list and view it from there.
it shows as a dashed line you can barely see it but look hard it is there
Great! TWS, menu settings, thanks so much for the intro and your input and clear comments to it
Glad it helps!
Thank you for the great informative video. One question. Do you know a service or company that will help set up my interactive broker stock trading platform? I would gladly pay for someone's expertise. Rather than learn from scratch I want to jump in an get it setup. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
What is it you need help with? Cheers.
Awesome video. Thank you for showing your setup!
Can you separate a window in TWS so they can be viewed in another monitor?
Yes. However it will generally use more system resources.
Hey thanks for all the content you put up... Much appreciated. Have a question. Have an account setup with IB tws platform. I want to be able to practise the execution with the live data I've subscribed to... But I don't want to let my orders go to the exchange. Basically what I'm looking for is to work on my executions with live data in a simulated environment. Can I do this in my live trading account ie is there an option to trade in the live account in a simulated environment rather than in my demo account ?
Demo account is the only option or you can mentally trade and write it down. Thanks.
Thanks
Thank you! Very important and detailed.
You're welcome!
Hi-It's an amazing Video. Thanks for this!! Question-Is there anyway we can change the background of TWS from black to white?
I believe it's in the display settings and it's also there before you log in. (in a drop down menu)
That was really really really helpful...Lots of little things I would not have known...thank you for making the video!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
hello from Hong Kong, just want to say thanks for the tutorial, really useful!
