Good evening everybody! I hope you're doing well in these tough times. Thank you for dropping in on my review of the facelifted Suzuki Ignis. For those of you wondering where the 'Ask Aaron' segment is, I felt it was best to leave it out, considering how long this video already is. However, I will be doing 'Ask Aaron' as a separate video so fear not!

      Great review, thank you.
It's a charming, fun little car.
BTW how long is the total life of the 'mild hybrid' lithium battery and how much do replacements cost - if buying a second hand Ignis?

    • @CarObsession

@@musoseven8218 Hello Muso, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid, but I have asked Suzuki UK and I'm currently waiting for an answer.

@@musoseven8218 Hello Muso, here is the response fro Suzuki UK: The warranty is 5 years although researching this, we have no data on having to replace the Lithium-ion battery as yet (launched in early 2016 with Baleno 1.2)
The outright cost of a replacement one (if damaged in a collision perhaps) is £1,451 plus VAT.

@@CarObsession Hi, thanks, that's really kind of you, well done, great research! Good that Suzuki have been up front.
      I'm torn.
My thoughts; Lithium Ion batteries are expensive, potentially dangerous and, currently there's nowhere in the UK to recycle them (iirc Elon Musk approached the UK military to see if they could dispose of them - a short sharp answer was received from them in that regard 😄👍🤔). Although cheaper than a full hybrid battery that's still a large chunk of money to replace and iirc other manufacturers have an 8 year warranty on full hybrid batteries (they're so expensive they could write a second hand car off when they fail outside of warranty). In addition the supply chain for lithium is a dangerous and dirty one, very environmentally unfriendly. Some petrol engines had gotten to the stage, with a low pressure/light turbo (hopefully longer lasting, but turbos wear and can kill engines if they fail etc etc) that they almost just put water droplets out the back - please read on.
We run two Suzuki's, both low mileage because of the Pandemic etc, I would like a Jimny (again) or an Ignis, but I note that Suzuki's new prices have increased exponentially (and second hand is problematic now too) and some manufacturers are leaving off features due to semiconductor shortages. We will probably have to keep our cars to the age of eight years old and then buy second hand. However from an environmental POV, both of our cars attain high MPGs, both are pretty clean too, they are well maintained and at least there's not the environmental impact of building two new cars for us. Lithium batteries are still an unknown and I'd like to see which way synthetic petrol goes too (I think hydrogen may be the reserve of commercial vehicles).
It does seem as if the world has gone a bit mad re electric and hybrids, seems, therefore, like the least worst option is a light hybrid. In effect what Suzuki have done is replace light pressure turbos for mild hybrids?
Climate change is happening but it isn't all about carbon and I'm concerned that hybrids and battery power isn't the answer. Perhaps we should have listened to Nikolai Tesla, we'd all have free energy by now - without needing LiIon batteries 🤔😉👍😊😊

@@musoseven8218 Well yeah, that's the thing. Without wanting to 'spark' an argument against EV, some EV owners bang on about the cars being zero emissions, but what about the production of making them? I remember Top Gear saying years ago that the emissions used to produce the Toyota Prius negatively offset the car itself (or something in that manner) and it would take a lot of driving from said car to balance things up.
OK, Clarkson, Hammon and May might not be the most reliable sources when it comes to EV motoring, but I bet there is some truth in it. Personally, I think the way to go is hydrogen, but some EV owners will act as if that it the fuel of the antichrist 😅

We bought one of these as a "Shopping Trolley" for my wife but it offers so much more and she she can't keep me out of it! I prefer it around town to my much larger Hyundai. Your review covered all the good (and bad) points that I found myself. I haven't experienced a car like it and I am over Six feet tall like yourself. How do Suzuki make such a little car so roomy inside?

Wow, thanks. We just bought a 2017-12 one.
The newer one was not available, only in March 2022 about.
But I was looking for a higher, but still a small car. And bigger than the iQ my wife has now. She loves the small nest for in the city, but liked a bigger one for the big road and easier to get in.
Fun to see so many fun video's about this car.

@@CarObsession Yep, it's better because of the autonomous braking and mitigation system (cameras) but intrinsic strength of the chassis and body, I wasn't sure about, but it's a super little motor. Not that my Jazz is a tank, but it just feels more solid and a bit bigger. I'm probably going for something a bit bigger and more powerful next time I change, but I do like dinky motors.

Want an affordable Sports version with a 72 or 144 volt system, a far more powerful electric motor and a smaller combustion, 'range extending' engine ... same as the Volt.
Bigger batteries only add more range & weight & cost of replacement, so 150km would do me for city use.

I almost bought one, but got a Vitara instead to get the extra space. Overall I wish I'd bought the ignis, because it had so much character - which is exactly what the Vitara lacks. Put it this way, a few weeks ago someone asked me what I drove and I genuinely had to think about it before remembering what I had. I am a keen gamer and I joke that Suzuki may as well have called the Vitara "NPC_CROSSOVER.OVL" - it's that generic in every respect. The Ignis on the other hand is so much more than it's stats would suggest.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi there, thanks for watching. Yes, the Ignis certainly has character, but I wouldn't say the Vitara has none. Mind you, I suppose it depends on what engine it has. The 1.4 litre petrol engine is the one to have 👍
