    I purchased ArganRain shampoo and oil because my hair is thinning, and there were positive reviews for this product. It seems to be making my hair fuller. I like it.

    Thank you for the video Belinda, always appreciated.
    Will you be making a shampoo video? I know you've done the organic shampoo video but wondering if you'll be making a non organic step by step video?
    Im currently having issues with a shampoo im trying to formulate, it keeps separating a few days later despite using polyquat 10 and HEC. Obviously im doing something wrong and as you rightly say method is crucial.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi D, please check your method your HEC is probably forming a gum layer that separates out, try adding it at the end after all surfactants and water have been combined first, then add the HEC and stir slowly for a while to make sure it fully hydrates before stopping stirring, then the HEC can hydrate with all available water and that should solve your problem. Hope this helps. Yes I plan to do a why does salt thicken video, its on the list! Happy formulating!

    • @baheath
      @baheath 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi D, depending on your choice of surfactants you should be able to formulate a non-organic shampoo without the use of gums. Most (typical OTC) shampoos use one or more anionic surfactants (typically SLES) coupled with some CAPB and/or CDE - they can then be "salt thickened". If you are having particular trouble PM me and I'll sort through your formula.

    Thank you. I do have a question, I live in the states. Most of the time the ingredients/companies you use I think to myself "never heard of that company." It is intimidating. They are also harder to get in the states and more expensive.
    Also, I also feel intimidated that you mostly use your low/ high sheer machine. A lot of Home formulators don't have these machines. Can you show us how to be more home formulator friendly and use tools I (we) have at home instead of lab equipment most of us don't have.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mehboob, careful with essential oils, they can alter your end viscosity significantly. You could use the aroma from the hydrosols only and not impact the viscosity at all! Please email us for the full formulation including inputs/details of the essential oils: info@personalcarescience.com.au It is the METHOD that is important in this formula with any essential oils you want to add, please also watch this video which explains an important method step with natural surfactants when using essential oils, to effectively solubilise them: th-cam.com/video/mp_9vhLfjlY/w-d-xo.html Happy formulating!

    I did not get the stage at which xanthan has to be introduced. is it to be added with water + non ionic + amphoteric phase then add an-ionic sirfactant. Would be so helpful if you specify more clearly. Also in ur recent videos of surfactant you stated to use xanthan only after water + surfactant phase.

    hi belinda.. Thanks for wonderful video ..I was just thinking how end product is looking like it is pearlescent or clear ...is there any color option that could be added ...like i only know campho siddha colors and natpure sensient dye. would color affect stability... you explain really well thanks

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you could add campho siddha colourants - you wouldn't need much though and you'd need to use the water soluble versions. The campo natural colourants are really colour/light stable, I haven't tested them in this formula but I would expect them to perform well. You could also add a small amount of coated micas for a pearlescent effect and some colour. Happy formulating!

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

      Not all surfactants are sulphates! There are many other choices, and there are no sulphates in this formula. You will find this workshop useful: Can I use a different surfactant: personalcarescience.com.au/Workshops/Surfactantworkshop-6326/

  • @gerafi4840
    @gerafi4840 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hello.. is there any % or active matter limit for organic sulpofon or organic anion surfactants (for oily hairs)
    ....in sulphate shampoos ..anionic can go as higher as 14% a.m with only 1 % betaine.....I am thinking if organic surfactants are mild why we use non-ionic with them? ... thanks, liked your video

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anionic surfactants are great cleansers, but because of their charge can be irritating no matter if they are natural or not - so you always need to combine with at least non-ionic surfactants/superfatting agents to improve mildness. Formulas should never be just anionic on their own, plus the combination helps boost performance and skin feel (cocamidopropyl betaine is not permitted in organic formulas by certain certifiers so I left it out). Happy formulating!

    How many actives is ideal for a stable product? Thanks

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends a lot on your budget, and target market. If you have the budget, you can add a few actives to really enhance performance - but a lot of times, the actives you choose and can use, gets limited by the budget/cost of the product, and what your target market is prepared to pay. Make sure the product delivers on performance to suit your target market needs, but is still at a price they are willing to pay. Happy formulating!

      No but neither is cetearyl alcohol or glyceryl stearate yet they are in most of your 'certified organic' skin products - sodium coco-sulfate is considered naturally derived and approved for use in Certified Organic products to the Cosmos standard which is why I have included it.
