you should hear Stephen Fry's narration of the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. It's Hilarious! I mean the book is great in it's own right but with Stephen Fry narrating it it becomes so much better.

I dont really mind slight changes from the book. Its an adaptation after all. It doesnt have to be identical. But making Dumbledore loud and angry kinda ruins the point of his character since he is supposed to be a contradiction to all the other authority members in the story who are all loud, full of pride and demanding. Dumbledore is supposed to be the opposite as this loving person who actually cares for the people he manages and someone who would choose kindess over anger to not do someone wrong who could be innocent, in a situation when most people would choose aggression.
The change came with the actor, the first Dumbledore (first two movies) was very close to the book version. Michael Gambon chose to play the role differrently.

He was a bit too old I think and while Gambon is nothing like book Dumbledore, I don't think that he should've played it to the text either. Book Dumbledore's calmness honestly seems like it's being played for laughs sometimes, it looks better on the page than it would on screen. Gambon's interpretation works contextually, the movies themselves are a lot more hyper, action-packed, and fast-paced than the books.
I like book Dumbledore way more than the movie one. In the books he was just so calm, but you could see the complexity of his character and in the half blood prince it became very emotional to see Dumbledore struggling and crying in the cave where he had to drink that liquid.
Agreed, I hate it when people say they dislike Dumbledore for being a 'manipulative bastard' (thereby showing they have only watched the movies.) when in fact, he was trying to save the world by sacrificing Harry, knowing very well he would survive. The alternative would've been death for everyone. And still, he was having such a hard time, "leading Harry" to that seeming "end", with the risk of still having calculated something wrong and perhaps killing Harry with it. I loved the book. Strongly disliked the film. The director is mostly to blame. He complained in an interview about how long the book was; you could tell from his expression and tone that it was quite the chore for him to read the whole thing.
Aside from the fact that they completely changed Dumbledore (it's not the actor's fault), I really liked that McGonagall touched Harry's shoulder with sympathy. Shows how much she cares.

I like Richard Harris's portrayal of Dumbledore more than Michael Gambon's. Meaning no offense to Gambon, he definitely brought out Dumbledore's darker, brooding side to him, especially how secretive he can be. But Harris managed to balance Dumbledore's kindness and warming nature with a mysterious atmosphere. He felt like the kind of headmaster that people would truly love and look up to.
The main difference between movies and books were when dumbledore dueled Voldemort in The order of Phoenix. Book has portrayed why dumbledore is the greatest wizard of all time. Even the title of the part is 'the only one he ever feared.' It's a shame how movie managed to show dumbledore weak and almost loosing the duel. P.S. to those that have not read the books, please, read the chapters or listen it on TH-cam. How he intervens the loosing duel between the members of the order and deatheaters, manages the capture of 8-9 of them effortlessly, immobilizing bellatrix while battling voldemort fearlessly, striding forward the entire time, defenseless. Voldemort realizing no way he can win, enters harry and urges dumbledore to kill them both. But the thing is, dumbledore never fought to kill. Had he done so, Tom would have died in an instant, apart from the horcruxes. That is how the book portrays Albus dumbledore.
I like that Prof McGonagall is the only one not staring at harry and actually comforts him Edit: after watching again i noticed snape looked more concerned and slightly curious than angry

Barty Crouch Sr. was asked for his opinion since he knows more about Law and Magical contracts. However, he was being Imperius controlled by Barty Crouch Jr, (who is impersonating Mad eye moody here) and made him tell them that once a binding contract is made with the goblet, it cannot be broken. He made up some bullshit about some law or something and basically that meant Harry had to go through compulsively.
@I can get 96% The argument of the Goblet being a magically binding contract isn't air tight though. The Goblet/contract obligates Harry to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, but nothing's keeping the tournament organizers or Harry himself from half-assing the challenges or calling quits as soon as he steps into an arena. For example, Fleur tapped out twice and didn't suffer bc of it. Obviously, it wouldn't have made for an interesting read, but logically speaking, authority figures would've seen this loophole and only had Harry participate to the most minimal extent

Aside from the fact that they completely changed Dumbledore (it's not the actor's fault), I really liked that McGonagall touched Harry's shoulder with sympathy. Shows how much she cares.

I like Richard Harris's portrayal of Dumbledore more than Michael Gambon's. Meaning no offense to Gambon, he definitely brought out Dumbledore's darker, brooding side to him, especially how secretive he can be. But Harris managed to balance Dumbledore's kindness and warming nature with a mysterious atmosphere. He felt like the kind of headmaster that people would truly love and look up to.
"Yes,My Lord" responded Bellatrix to Voldemort's order while blushing and giggling madly ,and not to mention, blinking her heavy eyelids feverishly.
The main difference between movies and books were when dumbledore dueled Voldemort in The order of Phoenix. Book has portrayed why dumbledore is the greatest wizard of all time. Even the title of the part is 'the only one he ever feared.' It's a shame how movie managed to show dumbledore weak and almost loosing the duel.
P.S. to those that have not read the books, please, read the chapters or listen it on TH-cam. How he intervens the loosing duel between the members of the order and deatheaters, manages the capture of 8-9 of them effortlessly, immobilizing bellatrix while battling voldemort fearlessly, striding forward the entire time, defenseless. Voldemort realizing no way he can win, enters harry and urges dumbledore to kill them both. But the thing is, dumbledore never fought to kill. Had he done so, Tom would have died in an instant, apart from the horcruxes.
That is how the book portrays Albus dumbledore.
By my count, Voldemort fighting Dumbledore could have gone either way but I would say a thousand galleons on Dumbledore!

Barty Crouch Sr. was asked for his opinion since he knows more about Law and Magical contracts. However, he was being Imperius controlled by Barty Crouch Jr, (who is impersonating Mad eye moody here) and made him tell them that once a binding contract is made with the goblet, it cannot be broken.
He made up some bullshit about some law or something and basically that meant Harry had to go through compulsively.
@I can get 96% The argument of the Goblet being a magically binding contract isn't air tight though. The Goblet/contract obligates Harry to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, but nothing's keeping the tournament organizers or Harry himself from half-assing the challenges or calling quits as soon as he steps into an arena. For example, Fleur tapped out twice and didn't suffer bc of it. Obviously, it wouldn't have made for an interesting read, but logically speaking, authority figures would've seen this loophole and only had Harry participate to the most minimal extent
