if you want to burn it, rig the paddle tail upside down to keep it from riding up in the water column. These bladed jigs attract bass based on the sound frequency they put off when the blade bangs each side of the jig head, that's why the original chatterbait (and these thunder crickets that licensed the connection) are so effective. If ya'll go back and watch the Live where Rick interviewed the head of Z-Man, there is a ton of great information given.

That was a good live. As for the the paddletail rigged upside down, that helps, but also depends on the plastic/paddletail. Some have way more action than others.

Nice...I like cutting a zoom lizard down to about half and putting that on as a trailer. I get a lot of bites with the chartreuse lizard tail

As Andy Montgomery has stated and shown on video why he doesnt lose fish on the TC...
A hard solid hookset doesn't blow the bait out of their mouth. By the time they engulf it and you set the hook they're hooked TDC or hard bone on side of mouth/gill plate. This bait has a jungle jig/flipping hook.. it penetrates easy and stays pinned in tough part on fish mouths. You also don't need a glass rod nor a composite rod to land the fish. You need proper fish landing and hookset techniques.
When you barely hook them or you lose fish it is due to:
    1. Wrong rod action and powers. Like 80/20 fast instead of 70/30 fast and Medium instead of Medium Heavy
    2. Too long of a trailer causing short strikes or the fish not being able to gulf the bait in one try. Matching the hatch is important even when power fishing.
3.Wrong color/trailer selection in general and not matching the forage leading to short strikes
    4. Improper hooksets on long distance casts. Meaning a quick jerk or trying to load sweep a bigger hook. It may work on trebles, but you need a solid hard hookset upwards to your shoulder to drive the hook on those long cast with a single hook bait.
    5. Get the fish to the boat quick and keep leverage, tight line, and use the rod tip to guide/pull fish to where you want to land them not point rod tip at the fish

This is the video I have been hoping to find regarding the Thunder Cricket. I was doing the first two “don’t do”s.” when fishing my lake. Now I am consistently catching fish with this great lure. Thanks for the advice.

thank you Jeremy for the tip at 6:34, never would have thought of that. i had some questions:
    1) what temperature was that water? i heard bass metabolism slows down below 50 degree F, and people recommend finesse baits such as ned/football jigs, surprised a chatterbait was so effective
    2) my glass (medium/moderate) crankbait/jerkbait rod uses a duo-lock snap for quicker lure changes, do you think a snap would impact the action/vibration/sensitivity of a chatterbait, or should I tie direct to the lure?
    3) what is the make/model of your electronic graph (depth finder?), i'm in the market for one after recently acquiring a kayak
    thank you and tight lines!

Snaps work fine except for ones like the Norman speed clips. These clips will vibrate right off and you will retrieve a cast pick your lure up out of the water and it will simply fall off. The best snap I have found to use is the VMC crankbait snap.

      1. Water temps were mid to upper 50s. Their metabolism may slow down some, but so does the prey. So just slow your retrieve down some.
      2. I’m not opposed to snaps at all. I think they work fine. I personally, just like to re-tie and don’t mind it.
      3. This graph is the Hummingbird Helix 9 GN3.

I found chatterbait style lures loose effectiveness below 40 degree water temp but man did I slay them from Sept until first week of November in southeast Wisconsin.
I have a ton of upcoming content that is all bladed jigs:-)

Nice! Yeah, it does get below 40 mic here in Texas. It was mid-upper 50s this past weekend when I was out filming this one.

Never caught anything on my inexpensive original chatterbait so when it got stuck in a tree, I left it there.

Lol. I used to jot catch anything with them either. I will say, this is one style of lure that you get what you pay for. Give the Thunder Cricket a try!! 👊

That’s your lack of patience if I had to guess. Bladed jigs are by far my best confidence bait. Fish it ALL DAY . Take 3 or 4 of them and NOTHING ELSE. That’s exactly how I learned how to fish a regular jig. Keep your lure wer
