Fantastic coverage of your Marathon!!! Huge Congratulations! Beautiful Medal and tons of memories... Great...Great...Job! Thanks for the inspiration Derek! :c)
Thanks for the video, Dennis. In part, thanks to your videos, I finished the "half" on Saturday. Your videos are an inspiration for me. Training in Washington State, I was also ill prepared for the temps. Saturday was warm as well, but we finished earlier than you guys. On Sunday, we saw the sag wagon trailing the end of the Marathon in "Studios". Those folks did not look happy. Glad to see you finished. Sorry to hear about your camera.
thank you for recording this...it brings back many sights already forgotten from Sunday. It would be interesting to know where you are from because I did not think it was hot (for Winter, yes but in general..not hot). However, I am from New Orleans so I may be accustomed to the weather. Again, thanks for the video.
Congrats! I was suppose to run the Walt Disney World Marathon in 2013 but I then I caught the stomach flu and had to miss it. I was really upset. I'm glad that your trip was far better than mine.
thanks for another great video...sad the camera died on you. What intervals did you use? alot of people are dissapointed with the 20 mile spectacular, maybe Disney will learn to not hype things up.
Great video. Sorry you didn't get to finish it as you wished. I completely suffered from mile 10 on. Part of it was the heat: part was the inconsistency of the short runs during the week. I'm curious about the Galloway method. I ordered a book from Amazon but I can't wait to start. I have many questions about it. I've only done Disney but this year was the 3rd time (one was part of Goofy2011). It seems to me, that if I am to continue running, I need to alter my approach or burn down.
Very nice video. I'm sorry for the water mishap, that seems like somebody was being careless as there are a lot of people with electronics in the race. Good job running. It seems there are more people walking this race than running it. I guess it's more so that way for the Disney marathon than for most other marathons because of the popularity. It doesn't seem fair to the people that want to run to have to dodge around the walkers. Maybe they should have two heats where they start the longer distance runners an hour before the slower ones to keep the traffic separated. Thanks again; enjoyed the video.
Hello sir! Your videos have greatly inspired me to start marathon/half marathon training! I hope to make it to the disney princess half 2014! I have a question about your run walk ratios, I've seen people use 30sec/30 sec, 1 min/ 30 sec, and others who just run all the way through... What ratio do you recomend? Right now I use he 30/30. Thanks!
Started with 10/50, then went to 15/45. At the half, it was getting terribly hot, so I dropped back to 10/50 again, and then on to 15/45 to the finish.
It depends on the pace that you are running, how long you have been training, and the distance of your longest run. The biggest mistake that I see people make is to run too much, far too soon.
I'm thinking about just walking the half and saving up for the full the next day. Also, I saw that you did Race Retreat for the princess half. Would you recommend it for marathon weekend?
The faster you can run, the more the perks tent makes sense. The slower that you run, the less time that you have to spend, so it makes a very expensive perk even more pricey. I did it once to see what it was like, and haven't done it again, if that is any indication. If you have the money to throw at it, without sacrificing anything else, then you might try it.
Have you ran the Goofy Challenge? I have two half marathons under my belt and am thinking about signing up. I plan to follow the Galloway program. What are your thoughts?
We are running the Goofy for 2015, but not because I want to. Here's why: 1.) It is an anniversary year for the Goofy, so the medal will be awesome. 2.) This may be the last WDW marathon for me, at least for a while. There are too many other great races that I'm neglecting to attend WDW. 3.) My wife, who would never let me sign up for the Goofy, informed me that she was running it for 2015. With all of that said, I wouldn't recommend even trying it until you have one or more marathon finished under your belt. Until you do, you really don't know how your body will react to 26.2 miles. When you try to run 26.2 the day after you run 13.1, all kinds of things can happen that you may not be prepared for.

Love the video D. I'm not sure I have the "bug" to run it but it does make me want to go back and visit the parks! ;-)

Anything above 60 degrees is hot, for marathon running. So when it climbs above 80, it's brutal, no matter where you are from!
I mean Derek...duh, how I came up with Dennis, I'll never know. :-)
