Absolutely excellent video, FTV. A lot of information a lot of people maybe don't know. I wish this could be seen by so many more people in this country to understand what the Armed Forces do for them and why their funding needs to be supported, especially as his was only the tip of the iceberg! Could do hours on the full list, including foreign air policing of the allies who stand first in the path protecting us with their own land, protection of the Falkland Islands and our fellow citizens out there, counter-piracy to protect the things we all buy, mine-hunting within crucial trade lanes in the Gulf that brings the fuel we all use, counter-terrorism to protect us on home lands and abroad, natural disaster ready units to counter storms and flooding on our shores and riverlines, Search and Rescue support in Cyprus and the Falklands, foreign training to our allies to better prepare them and strengthen our global presence by being amongst other prepared nations, defence industries bringing money and work to the nation, Red Arrows carrying the UK's image to the entire world, a nuclear deterrent that has stood in the way of any aggression for decades crewed by men and women who give up years of their lives to live in a small tube, support training with the police to help counter significant events from as malicious as intense looting to something as simple as helping staff the Olympics, Highland protection response to help out small communities if the winter cuts them off...
We need to be spending billions more on our armed forces, this video doesn’t mention the personnel shortages, old & outdated equipment & capability gaps. Could we retake the Falklands if it was invaded now? The answer is probably not. We need to have the ability to operate world wide independently & not be reliant on others for assistance.
wouldn't need to retake it, the Argies couldn't take in the first place, they've got fuck all amphibious capabilities and their troops r only really able to protect Argentina they aren't equipped for an invasion, we also have a much larger Royal Marine presence and constant naval patrols + a few fighters based on the island, i wouldn't worry especially when the carrier/carriers r equipped and in service
admiralpicard2010 so what capabilities do u think the uk has lost since 1982 that makes that statement true, we are still able to amass a force of that size the only difference is the capabilities now of these ships is greater obviously we would have to wait until PW is finished but I think the sortie rate on Queen Elizabeth is far higher than our 1982 pocket carriers so with just one it is more capable than the 2 we sent in 82
The argument is not if the UK could retake the Falklands, it's if Argentina could, which it can't... The Argies have, Most of their navy in port needing maintenance, No amphibious assault capability, A mostly grounded fighter/attack jet fleet made up of about 30 1970's aircaft, No much of a better economy then what they had in 1982, and more. On the Falklands alone right now the UK has, 1,200 Marines, Army engineers, and RAF pilots, as well as a few hundred Falklands Defence Force personnel (army trained citizen islanders) A dedicated 1,200 tonne patrol ship permanently based there, Regular visits from RN frigates, destroyers and ice breakers, with usually an SSN in the South Atlantic, 4 Typhoon jets, 2 transport helicopters and regular trips by C-130's and Voyagers, and more. I'd easily say that just 1 Type 45 with Aster 15/30 and Harpoon missiles, and a submerged SSN could take out the whole Argentina navy in a few days. The biggest problem would probably be having to locate the fleet and make sure the RN vessels have enough missiles and torpedo's on board! Argentina's 40 year old fleet of roughly 30 working turbo prop COIN jets are no match for even the 4 Typhoons on the Islands. This is Argentina's best jet: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FMA_IA_58_Pucar%C3%A1 This is their best naval ship class, lacking spare parts and with out of date ordinance: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almirante_Brown-class_destroyer
admiralpicard2010 seems the trend for most advanced militaries is troop number reduction. In 20 years we will be sending robots to fight. I just watched a robot do a back flip and parkour. We are going to have less troops, more technicians/engineers. Only way it can go. Money saved on wages would buys more hardware. Some nations are burdoned by troops salaries. Dont think we should sack soldiers though. Should be done naturally over time.

National Service isn't the answer. Ever work with a conscript army? You might end up with more troops but I wouldn't want to fight beside any of them, most of them just don't want to be there. Oh and that has a knock on effect, sprinkle miserable gits into a good body of troops and the misery spreads like a fucking yeast infection. The number of troops is entirely down to the government: 1. Making it hard to join. 2. Making a career in the military look like a non-starter. 3. Letting serving members down so they leave (lower retention = need to recruit more people). 4. Deliberately shrinking the size of the armed forces.
Switzerland is very much in it's own unique situation too though. Conscription for them does not mean military life as the country is small enough that people can commute to their bases. It is also a country that has not been to war for god knows how long, and it's army doesn't need to be put to the test. Also what the moral is like within Swiss units (or what their level of professionalism is like) is unkown to me, I do remember what people being drafted into the Bundeswehr where like though, one of my friends tried to fake mental issues to avoid having to go, trust me you do not want people with that attitude in your army if you can avoid it. "create regiments for them and transfer them to existing regiment*" again that would be poison. You know very well that people would be transferred based on checks in the box not on their personalities, and any CoC would be hopping to get rid of the people they don't want. And if you are going to have a conscript army that you don't use and a regular army that you do use... what's the point of the conscript army? Didn’t you get the hint “what a job title”... in other words... “amazing job title”! Fact that you trying to be so aggressive with your comment I’m guessing your little insecure. Relax yourself!!
The army numbers don't worry me. Millions of British men walk the streets who would be ready to defend the island when called upon. Its the way we've been wired. Don't ask me why. Its in the ancestry. We resisted the vikings and normans until we couldn't. And since then we've not been touched because we don't allow it.
When you think about the size of a peace time army VS what we saw in WW2 on a total war footing it's crazy. The amount of people in the entire UK Armed Forces at the moment is but a tiny fraction of what it was at one point. It's insane to think of millions of people in uniform ready to go blow each other up. Hopefully we never have to find out what that's like again!!! I would love to go on a WW2 artifact digging vacation in Germany, France and Russia one day.
200k is a very small military. How many are combat soldiers? But they are great soldiers well trained and can't be taken lightly. The best military in Europe easily
Make Britain Great again bring back those shipping and aircraft manufacturing companies bring back those great bombers like Vulcans, Valiants and Victors and battleships Vanguard, King George the fifth and Warspite armed with 15 inch Rail guns
Dreadnoughts make brilliant targets for a single fighter. Put all your guns in one raft and watch them go up. You know tactics have changed since WWII, right?
Yeah they would be an enormous waste of money for the capabilities they would offer, but it would still be interesting to see Vanguard upgraded like the Iowas were in the 80s...
First off I just want to say that I spent 11 yrs in the US army with 2 tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. I have served with a few British soldiers in Iraq and wanted to say that they are very professional and good soldiers. It just sucks that the British military is so badly funded and that the British military is so incredibly small. I didn't realize just how small the British military really was till I looked it up. As of right now the UK military only has a total of 146,000 thousand active duty soldiers!!! That is extremely small. The US Marine Corp, which is by far the smallest branch of the US military has around 220,000 thousand. The British army has 81,000 soldiers, the US army has close to a million if you count it's reserve components. The UK only has 227 MBTs (tanks), the US has over 8,000! If I was British I would be upset with the politicians because they have gutted the British military.
Has it ever occurred to you that A) the US is much larger than the UK and B) We don't even need to fight half the time, we just send the US in and clean up after them.
UK population - 66 million USA population - 327 million UK area - 242,495 Km(squared) USA area - 9.835 Million Km(squared) I was surprised at how dumb your comment was until i saw you'd been in the US military for so long.

jammer3618 but they sure as hell are better trained and equipped than armies that have larger forces,e.g china or India,as the budget is £55 billion per year, keep in mind all the gear a soldier is equipped with amounts to usually 20k worth,so 20,000xsay 150,000 fighting personnel is £3 billion pounds, end the billions in tanks, jets, ships alone and also research,so for 200k personnel, the military is well equipped.

Now i want to join even more, lovely video. Thinking of the RAF, something about the thought of sawing through the sky and serving my beautiful country and the equally beautiful queen from the skies is just so appealing...
Forces TV and the voiceover guy says 'nuculer'. Fabulous
“Space Surveillance Operator” what a job title!!
It means keeping track on Britain's air space for possible nukes or enemy aircrafts that could be operating. Are you that stupid to understand?
A K Funniest thing is that it is you that is too stupid to understand that my comment was actually a compliment and it is a amazing job. Didn’t you get the hint “what a job title”... in other words... “amazing job title”! Fact that you trying to be so aggressive with your comment I’m guessing your little insecure. Relax yourself!!
@@dushankaperera3334 tell me why the jobs so fascinating then?
@@user-jo1bs9hl5x 161 AK, what a spaz you are... did you understand that?
He's a good Dogo.
He's a cute one too
God save the queen and our friends 🇬🇧❤️
The army numbers don't worry me. Millions of British men walk the streets who would be ready to defend the island when called upon. Its the way we've been wired. Don't ask me why. Its in the ancestry. We resisted the vikings and normans until we couldn't. And since then we've not been touched because we don't allow it.
And yet the enemy enter our country every day in a dingy 🤯
Focusing on conventional warfare of tank on tank with a whole 250 tanks in your entire army? 🤣
Oops let me update this... You will be down to 146 tanks after the next Challenger upgrade. What a joke!
When I left school there were a million British warriors
When was that if you don't mind me asking
@@randomyoutubewatcher23 80
@@randomyoutubewatcher23 1979_80. 1 million British front line souls. Arny navy airforce etc
The EOD team are bloody awesome geezers. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Isn't enough money in the world to get me to do that job!
I see a challenger 2 in the thumbnail I click video and click like simple as that
200k is a very small military. How many are combat soldiers? But they are great soldiers well trained and can't be taken lightly. The best military in Europe easily
Make Britain Great again bring back those shipping and aircraft manufacturing companies bring back those great bombers like Vulcans, Valiants and Victors and battleships Vanguard, King George the fifth and Warspite armed with 15 inch Rail guns
nghnino I want a few dreadboughts big beasty fuckers
but why do we need them? lol
Dreadnoughts make brilliant targets for a single fighter. Put all your guns in one raft and watch them go up. You know tactics have changed since WWII, right?
+nghnino What about HMS Rodney and HMS Nelson, which both had 16 inch guns...
UK population - 66 million
USA population - 327 million
UK area - 242,495 Km(squared)
USA area - 9.835 Million Km(squared)
I was surprised at how dumb your comment was until i saw you'd been in the US military for so long.
On paper it isn’t badly funded, but it seems the money as badly allocated. Bean counters who don’t know what they’re doing are in charge
I had no idea the RN police fishing. This video is really interesting and the channel as a whole is brilliant.
Bloody Marvellous. . “second to none” .
actually i believe that thunderbirds protects us
This video is 6 years old and it turning 7 this year
Brilliant. Thanks for posting
I'm happy for honesty in patriotism.
And look where we are now! an RN with 19 major units, an RAF with 6 frontline squadrons and an Army smaller than at the time of Waterloo! God help us!
Good thing we have the best fighter pilots in the world cause we have no airforce
Joining the Royal Canadian Navy soon, don't think I'll do much fisheries inspections as a mechanic however :P
Put royal tank regiment on the Shetland islands.

Fascinating video guys. Thank you for sharing. Britain is very proud!
Always admire..men that serve..but more admire...men that fight for freedom...us..UK.. Commonwealth countries..spirit brothers..keep the faith..we are all brothers..slight differences that we have..but we keep each other's back..with pride committment
And faith in each other.
In America , the military and allied military are applauded at sporting events etc . In the UK , they're told not to wear uniforms in public .
Moslems hacking guardsmen to bits on the street, and getting off with a slap on the wrist.
@@bradmiller2329 I have not heard a single story of "Moslems" hacking guardsmen to death in the streets. There was the murder of Lee Rugby, who was a Fusilier, but the men who murdered him were definitely insane, religion not withstanding.
@@ladela7348 That is an excuse to cover behavior that is not permitted in any civilized country.
Not a big army but a highly trained one

DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE lance sergeant? good docco tho lads!
What's wrong with that?
Jon Cawte there is no such thing pal
jaeger bomb - The rank of Lance Sergeant exists only in the Foot Guards. Queen Victoria decided that her protectors needed a bit more bling, and threw an extra stripe at her JNCO's. Hence that Guards Lance Corporals wear two stripes, and Corporals (Lance Sergeants) wear 3.
Quality Over Quantity.

Nice video, any chance of a Marham or Tornado special in the future?
looks like the drones are taking stereoscopic photos and the soldiers are looking at them on 3d screens with Nvidia glasses - sweet!
The APFSDS of this tank is not that good.
I heard other say the breech of the gun does allow a very long penetrator, so I wonder why can't they just extend the breech? Any can tell me why.
in my opinion the grenadier guard are the best guard serving /protecting the queen
Scots! (but then, I'm biased :) )
can you tell us more about the paras and there regiments thanks !
Thanks for sharing.
Good job boys, keep it up.
We do have a compliment of tanks to go overseas which is good.
Unfortunately we are wide open for attack from any nation therefore we need plenty tanks and armaments to guard British isles
Really awesome action
Great Documentary
Do the Army have any tanks or just a couple of old Land Rovers with Bren guns on ?
Yes , I confirm they definitely have 2 old Landies with guns...…... only to be used in a major crisis though ,as struggling to push out a leaky aircraft carrier we cant afford to run.
Awww those doggos are legendary!!😍😝
Tactical ending mentioning the Russians?
When politicians boast on spending an extra say 2% on defence and fail to mention that that includes a pay rise.

This was a great video.
i think the chaps at RAF Fylingdales screen operators could make good use of headsets rather than their pictured handsets...Maybe they dont need two hands to operate..?
Shoulda have added Special Forces, Royal Marines/Parachure regiment, SAS/SBS etc, Also Army air corps 67 Apache Longbow Gunships etc and New HMS queen Elizabeth/HMS prince of wales Aircraft carriers and the new F-35's

Hello from 🇺🇸.
Nobody after all the cuts
check navy code and you will get why no response
Super informative🤓
Excellent info of how Armed Forces keep vigil for U. K. Only question I have is why do we show some of our basis that are no longer "secret", to our enemies?
200k total military? Good Lord that is small.
jammer3618 but they sure as hell are better trained and equipped than armies that have larger forces,e.g china or India,as the budget is £55 billion per year, keep in mind all the gear a soldier is equipped with amounts to usually 20k worth,so 20,000xsay 150,000 fighting personnel is £3 billion pounds, end the billions in tanks, jets, ships alone and also research,so for 200k personnel, the military is well equipped.
@@aquillandscroll6428 I'm pro Brit. I served next to the "Army of Rhine" 1972 in Germany. If I recall that was two full divisions. USA had 4 full divsions I think. 2 armored and 2 mechanized infantry. We have all shrunk in size. But that 200k number for all forces hit me hard. I know Brits are well trained and will fight but at some point you need numbers. Goes for us as well.
In wartime they would be able to call up a further 100,000 reservists and regular reserves those liable for recall.
