Malaysia economic growth is clearing dependent on who serves as its PM. Many past PMs have rather shameful track records seen only in under-developed nations.

Cheap labor as u say is needed as it help balance the income desparity between urban pop and rural villages esp in agriculture. In my longhouse dèep in the hinterland of S'wak foreign across border workers mostly our relatives can earn between 3k to 5k rgt working in rubber, rubber and pepper holdings. Its gives us eco level close to those in cities. Our homes are modern ones and well facilitated. With paved roads and the internet thrown in. Our children are working in good jobs in town and mainly retired one like urs sincerely return to work our ancescorial land if they so wish!

Malaysia also needs to look at her highly educated, technically skilled, professionals leaving the country. IMF and World Bank have flagged this major problem. Malaysia can forger about innovation without them. One of the main reason cited by those leaving is the Bumi policy. No right thinking politicians will ever go near this policy. Malaysia is caught in a Catch 22 situation.

If SG makes the fatal error of agreeing to restart the SG to KL HSR, then Malaysia will rip off SG in the most cruel and terrible ways. SG will be impoverished and bankrupted. If that happens, the currency exchange rate will become RM$1 = SGD$4. Many forget there is a large pool of UMNO politicians waiting to claim "compensation" for HSR track that runs across the land they bought. The construction cost is only the tip of iceberg. Maintenance cost, Operational costs, Rolling stock replacement costs.
