You idea to start focus on wedge shots and 100 yard in is the way to go. I grew up with kevin na. He told me all the time just work on 100 yards in. You are one hundred precent that where you should focus. You skills are great. I think about zach johnson and some of the great wedge players. Same thing with kevin na. Not the longest hitter but they beat the best when it come to 100 yards in. I really think your brain is on the right track there. You focus on that and short game and pga tour will be yours and win will come in time.

When you were talking about the pressure of playing in China reminder me of something Trevino said."pga tour isn't pressure, playing a match for $10 when you have no money in your pocket. That's pressure"

Bro, this was a super weird year on a thousand different levels. Getting status with all the Covid delays and travel restrictions was an ever changing trip through bizarro world. You did the right thing securing LatinoAmerica status. This is not the year you should or will allow to make or break your confidence. It was a year to survive, and to set yourself up the rest of your journey towards the big show. You did well to secure your path forward this year. That was your job, and you did what you needed to do to get it done.

    Luke
Your honesty & passion is inspirational.
I’ve watched a lot of your videos & this one made me subscribe to be a part of your journey.
You will make the PGA because your game is elite & once you know that, your misses will only serve as motivation for you.
Remember, you are what you say you are because you create it by what you say.
See it, Feel it & Create it.
See you on the PGA tour soon.
Rambling is saying a lot & achieving nothing by it.
    That’s Not you.
    Peace 🙏🏽

No sniffling, no wining, no crying, no excuses...accept in your mind this is hard and embrace that fact every day, revel in it, be a warrior. I too share your dream...hit it hard, grind it...as with every player in the game...it's not the club, it's not the ball, it's not the course, the time of day, the week of the year......it's you. I think you are really smart and have a good thought process when it comes to evaluating yourself and your performances. I don’t know enough about golf, as I’ve just started playing, to comment on that aspect, but I think your mentality is there and with hard work the results will follow.
A thought experiment I’ve been doing lately is asking myself what actions throughout my day push me closer to a higher percentile of successful people. Aka waking up early and working out, that could perhaps push me 10 percentile ahead of others. That same logic can be applied to anything and in your case with fellow golfers.

You are so right about hitting into a net. It's terrible. It makes you confident when it's possible you shouldn't be because your ball could be going anywhere. Because all you are absorbing, is solid impact, and that makes you feel confident. What DOES work, is hitting foam balls. Not plastic. They tell you what is going on. They mimic normal ball flight, but just at a shorter distance. Been doing it for years. Just need about 30 yards or so of space.

We can’t all be prodigies of the game and blow it out at a young age like Jordan Speith and Rory McIllroy. Keep on the grind, the pieces will fall into place when they do and thats when all of this self improvement and mental fortitude will kick in and you will be ready to grab the opportunity and not let go.

Love the videos man, I think it’s interesting that I’m reading through the novel Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect and the biggest theme they draw upon is the mental side of golf. Particular around blocking out negatives

Really great insights and comments here in your vid. I recently returned to competitive AM golf in 2019 (after basically my entire adult life away from golf) with an eye on Sr Am competitive golf when I turn 55 (52 now) and just did my first national Mid Am event (missed cut on 4 dayer but took away a lot of positives). You thoughts about how your standing after the cut might affect one's outlook so true. The last 2 years have obs been a complete clusterf**k and getting a consistent practice and playing routine has been close to impossible (not to say it can't be done, but yeah -- I had to leave the States myself and reset up shop in Canada) -- but I think you should jump into KF Q School -- you have a plan b if things go south and just getting KF starts again if you get through will be worth it. Good luck not matter what yo decide!!

      @@LukeKwonGolf Definitely a thin line...
You birdied #4 (your 13th hole).
Horseshoe lip out putt on #5.
Great approach shot to birdie #6.
Two bad breaks on the par 5 7th. Drive rolled just into the thick rough, then approach shot landed 1 yard short of the green and bounced backward into the bunker.
Amazing par saving chip on #8!
You were solid under pressure. That’s a tough and long course.

Kinda crazy that the KFT is the developmental league for the PGA but it’s still hard as heck to scratch out a living. Other minor league sports like the g-league etc have min. salaries, food, travel…but you guys don’t even get status again. That’s nuts but shows just how hard it is to make it.

Hey Luke, don't let the burnout monster get you! Golf is so annoyingly streaky and the way you FEEL about how you're swinging doesn't predict results very well...in my experience. Just keep giving yourself chances. Maybe you would motivate better with monday PGA qualifiers or PGA Q-school. Everyone is different...

I've watched a lot a pros have range sessions and what stood out every time is even on the range they have a process for each shot they hit. Found it interesting you're racking up ball after ball like a hack (me) would do when they've rushed to the range after work to get a bucket in before sunset. Can sense a lot of frustration in your body language

    • @LukeKwonGolf
      @LukeKwonGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh 😂😂 thats bc I started hitting balls 30 mins before they shut the lights off on this range. I thought they would keep it on for longer so I didnt know I had to get there earlier. But regardless I think you’re right I do need to do more visualization and going thru my routine when I’m normally hitting balls on the range too 👍

You are correct that you can't fabricate pressure for extended periods of time.
You seem like a pretty smart guy. Seems like you have a pretty good family. There's no real pressure. It's golf, not a coal mine.
Focus way, way, way less. See the target. Hit the ball. Have fun and try to be great for pleasure. Enjoy.

    • @johntallanger4036

In the process all of the rational and explanations of why you're playing good or bad will go away. Being an athlete is a luxurious thing to do to begin with. Have a drink and embrace that part of it.
Then if you want to refine something for fun or to try to be great great at a GAME....awesome.

Do you have an option where patrons can help you invest in an appropriate sports psychologist?
You’ve got the goods and we’re all looking forward to seeing you progress as a top pga tour player. If it were easy everyone would be doing it. Keep surrounding yourself with those that make you better. Stay positive!
